  • During National Advance Care Planning Week, 18 - 24 March, Advance Care Planning Australia (ACPA), and proud Aboriginal women Cindy Paardekooper and Tammy McGrath urged everyone to share what matters most and communicate their preferences and wishes for future health care. ACPA, Cindy and Tammy hosted a joint webinar tomorrow on National Close the Gap Day, Thursday 21 March, for health professionals about how best to support First Nations peoples with advance care planning.
Cindy Paardekooper is a proud Kokatha woman from the far west coast of South Australia, an Aboriginal Consultant for Palliative Care Education and currently a South Australian representative on the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Palliative Care Advisory Group.
Tammy McGrath is a proud Wongatha, Ngadju, Mirning Yamitji, Woman from the Goldfields, and encourages all Aboriginal people and clinicians alike, to talk about advance care planning and palliative care. Tammy believes demystifying the notion of palliative care early on will close the gap and improve access to good supportive care with the appropriate services.
