"Backyard shooting" in my opinion downplays the insanity of this clip. Any shooting is bad, but a "backyard shooting" could be a disagreement that got out of hand where a single shot was fired between two people.

I believe they meant no further risk to the public from this particular incident.

You have the right to defend your life or the lives of your family, but unfortunately not your property, which going forward will be a huge problem and will need to be changed. However, in an urban neighbourhood, even though you may not get charged for neutralizing the attacker(s)[with a firearm as would be required in this scenario] they usually pursue a charge of discharging a firearm in a municipallity. It's a serious charge and will allow them to sieze your lawfully owned guns, rendering you helpless if further threats emerge.
The system is rigged against you all the way and needs legislative change.

That's a worst case scenario for the Crown. Even in the World Wars they try their hardest to do everything they can to prevent Canadians and Americans side by side. If it happens and they catch wind of it they do their best to break it up. Their ultimate fear is the Commonwealth goes the way of the Americans and stops shelling out tribute and mineral resources for their greedy purses. Not letting Canadians have decent guns is a major part of this concern and strategy. They learned what happens when their colonists get Kentucky rifles the hard way. Now it's just AR's.

Yeah, honestly just speaking from direct experience as an American, handguns scare me way more than long guns like AR/AK. We can talk about bullet pen and what not but that short barrel and how easy it can get pointed in the wrong direction is deadly. Plus the possibility of particular ammo types. If you watch enough body cams from down in the states when they unload on a perp with say .223 at close range, the reason they so often survive is that small bullet with all that velocity somehow just does less overall damage. To be honest, my home invasion quick grab actually include black powder and lead because those wounds...those are what really do damage and knock down.
