Great video, I really enjoyed it. I've got a 78 Caprice that still has the entire original system. I'd like to upgrade to a parallel condenser as I understand that can make a huge difference using R134. There is a company in Michigan (Alma Products) that still makes new A6 compressors that look like the originals! I'd like to go with that rather than updating to the aluminum one.
I would definitely go with the original A6 design if you can afford it. It’s a beefier and much more well designed unit. The aluminum units basically sacrifice all the advantages for weight reduction and parts reduction, and have no internal oil pump or separate reservoir. I’m curious how this aluminum unit will hold up. I have seen people like them when new, but haven’t found any long term reviews.
Most of the air conditioner compressors we deal with would not work well with hydraulics because of the way they are designed. But I have seen people convert air conditioner compressors into several different things so with some creative work I am sure it is possible. The main issue with this style is the valves do not lend themselves well to dealing with liquids and that usually ends up ruining either the pistons or the valve assemblies.

@@wrenchwranglers how much was the aluminum one? I think the new Alma ones can be had for about 500 bucks.
I think this one was about $300-ish
