I bought this mouthpiece because I was looking for a mouthpiece for the big band that was totally flexible, but in addition to its qualities as a lead alto, it also fits well in an ensemble. I've been playing the saxophone for a long time and have never had a Meyer for my alto. This immediately had the sound that I imagined. The new edition of the "old" mouthpiece model for Meyer's 100th anniversary might have served its purpose. That remains a matter of taste. For pop and funk music I like to use my Theo Wanne Durga 1, although the Meyer can also be used here.

Looks like a Balam. I have one and it puts the weight on your shoulders and off your neck and spine.

Other than the gold band (and higher price...) is there any difference (e.g., chamber, facing curve, thinness of tip rails as you pointed out, etc.) between this one, marketed as the "Connoisseur" by Meyer, and their "regular" NY reboot? Cannonball's Meyer had the gold band because the shank had a crack. I can dig the "weight and cosmetic aspects of it too, but is the mouthpiece otherwise the same, or not? Thanks...

I bought this mouthpiece at JEN in January and am loving it. The only description the salesmen gave me was that these pieces come from the old Meyer molds from the ‘50s, used by Cannonball (as stated in video) as opposed to the Meyers that were produced in the ‘70s or any other decade. No specific details like you asked (probably because I didn’t ask for those details). I agree with the video though, these are AMAZING mouthpieces, they are worlds above the regular Meyers you can buy today. I haven’t played any vintage Meyers so I can’t compare there, but I definitely will not be changing anytime soon

@@ajwoody6465 Thank you! Mine arrives shortly. I'll be doing a review & comparison with my 1990s Meyer piece (and maybe with some others...).

@@diogolozza I did, and it's excellent! But I also got the Brian Getasax, which is a 3D print copy on dental resin of his 1950s Meyer (the Babbit one is a 1970s). Both great, the 1950s one actually has more "Meyer" sound to it! The 1970s one has a larger floor. Both smoke my 1990s Meyer.
