It’s kinda like a 2/4 over a 4/4.. the drums are playing to 2/4 on a certain tempo that keeps timing with the 4/4 which the chords are playing, thus giving it an ambiguous groove so to speak where you don’t really know when is the beginning of the bar.. if you feel it in 4/4 you could start the 1 count from the third beat as well as the first beat and the groove would still be evident. MJ the Genius wouldn’t you say?🎶
