I really love this channel -- I really, really do -- so I hope it's okay that I have a couple of notes on this one. First, the expression you were looking for is "cut their teeth," not "break their teeth." It refers to baby teeth coming through the skin that covers them at birth, not accidentally chomping on the prize in the cracker jack box. Second, in your geographical tour of European directors, you ascribe Keislowski to Poland. He was born in Poland, but he thought of himself as French, and the movies you mention -- the Three Colors Trilogy -- are inspired by the symbolism of the French flag.
Not sure the logic of dividing the categories this way stands up. Maybe because my absolute favorite of the 1990s - Trainspotting - is only mentioned in passing. The achievement in script adaptation, editing and sheer bravura film-making on a tiny budget deserves more, but above all to turn the sordid stories of a bunch of working-class Scottish junkies into an international hit movie was simply astounding.
Mine is: Goodfellas, Pulp fiction, boogie nights, Big Lebowski, The Matrix, There is something about Mary, Silence of the lambs, Trainspotting, La vita e bella, American Beauty
Please put these in the third most iconic lines video. Because I feel that you missed a lot of really iconic lines. Some of these are my own very personal choices and you don't need to feel inclined to choose them all. Just throwing out examples is all I'm doing. DON'T STOP BEING AMAZING!!!!1) "I feel like I'm talking cray pills!!! 2) "YOU. ARE. A. TOOOOOYYYY!!!!!!" 3) "You wanna know how I got these scars?" 4) "Let it go"-Frozen 5) "This is Berk." 6) "Do you want to build a snowman?" 7) "It's not easy being green." 8) "The cold never bothered me anyway!" 9) "This is my house and I have to defend it!" 10) "Hakuna matata." 11) "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!" 12) "Use the force Luke." 13) "It's 106 miles to Chicago we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it`s dark...and we`re wearing sunglasses. Let's go!" 14) "NNAAAZZZIIVVAAANYYYAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" (The Lion King) 15) "Come with me if you want to live!" 16) "Bippity boppity boo." 17) "One ring to rule them all." 18) "Let my people go!!!" 19) "Don't cross the steams!" 20) "Live long and prosper." 21) "Shoot her!!!" 22) "Chewy, we're home." 23) "WWIILLLSSSOOOOONNNNNN!!!!" 24) "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller." 25) "I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!" 26) "I'm gonna steal the Declaration of Independence." 27) "WHERE IS MY SUPER SUIT?!?!?!"
At number five you mentioned “cape fear” which is a okay film at best. The original is 1000 times better and get zero respect. The more I hear about that remake the more I hate it.
I gotta start watching the whole video before I start commenting because I was about to be mad you didn't mention clerk's at number 9 before you mentioned it at 8
@@Luca-bv5ic but Spielberg has managed to do it more than once. He also released Minority Report and Catch me if you Can in same year. Let that sink in too.
@@Indeeee Ok not bad, not bad, ... Francis Ford Coppola actually managed to finish filming Apocalypse Now. If You know anything about the movie's production, you know what an achievement that is. The fact it went on to become what many consider the best war movie of all time is just a bonus. Anyway I'm not trying to prove Spielberg isn't great, just that there are other directors just as great. I'd say peak Coppola>peak Spielberg, but average Spielberg>average Coppola.
@@Luca-bv5ic yea, the production of Apocalypse Now was troublesome. So was also the case with the production of Jaws. Apart from that the fact that Spielberg makes movies of different genres whether they are good or bad is the biggest reason why I love him. Coppola is great for sure but Spielberg is as good if not better same goes for Martin Scorsese.
@@leninmckay3144 Highest grossing animated movie all time when it came out, hailed as the greatest animated film of all time by many...yes... The Lion King
I was recommended that movie long time ago with the highest of praise. I saw it and was underwhelmed by how unspectacular it was. Surely, my high expectations may have played a part, but still... nothing special.
Ask people on the street about that movie and see if it's remembered as well as shrek or the iron giant. Even movies like Anastasia and ferngully are better remembered then the Prince of Egypt outside 20 something year olds who saw it with their youth group.

I want to point out that Spielberg brought out Jurassic Park and Schindler's List in the SAME YEAR. Think about that. Totally different films in every possible way, both leaders of their genres, both instant classics. I really wanted your Spielberg pick to be Saving Private Ryan, but i have to agree Schindler's List is the better film. The only choice I disagree with here is Being John Malkovich, at least for comedy. Many of your other choices are better at being funny, long-lasting, and re-watchable, which for comedies is the point. I think you picked BJM just because its the edgy or auture choice, not the best one.

What a great little film Hard Eight is. I love it.
I have gone on a bit of a 90s binge recently.
Some god bestowed the gift of directorial cinema making to Steven Spielberg. I know he's returning to valhalla after his time in this realm is over.
I don't understand how Pulp Fiction isn't on the list but Reservoir Dogs is?
Nice list! Not perfect but, for the most part, pretty spot on!
2) "YOU. ARE. A. TOOOOOYYYY!!!!!!"
3) "You wanna know how I got these scars?"
4) "Let it go"-Frozen
5) "This is Berk."
6) "Do you want to build a snowman?"
7) "It's not easy being green."
8) "The cold never bothered me anyway!"
9) "This is my house and I have to defend it!"
10) "Hakuna matata."
11) "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!"
12) "Use the force Luke."
13) "It's 106 miles to Chicago we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it`s dark...and we`re wearing sunglasses. Let's go!"
14) "NNAAAZZZIIVVAAANYYYAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" (The Lion King)
15) "Come with me if you want to live!"
16) "Bippity boppity boo."
17) "One ring to rule them all."
18) "Let my people go!!!"
19) "Don't cross the steams!"
20) "Live long and prosper."
21) "Shoot her!!!"
22) "Chewy, we're home."
23) "WWIILLLSSSOOOOONNNNNN!!!!"
24) "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller."
25) "I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too!"
26) "I'm gonna steal the Declaration of Independence."
27) "WHERE IS MY SUPER SUIT?!?!?!"
I know this list cant name every movie, but I think Unforgiven and Jurassic Park deserved a mention at least.
I'm glad Groundhog Day got mentioned.
I'm glad Groundhog Day got mentioned.
I'm glad Groundhog Day got mentioned.
I'm glad Groundhog Day got mentioned.
I'm glad Groundhog Day got mentioned.
I'm glad Groundhog Day got mentioned.
I can't believe The Shawshank was left out and few other movies
Can you please make more things you didn’t know videos
We need more decade lists.
Where in the f*** is 'Falling Down'?
UpAndDown Eh, eleven to one isn't a bad ratio...
No one in 1999:
The Iron Giant: Superman
Every human out there: (cries unanimously)
Looking back on it now the 90's was a wonderful time in film history. The 2nd golden age of film
You leaved out Shawshank Redemption , Jurassic Park, and many others. Hard list to do tough.
8:04 Seriously, Cinefix! You didn't had to give spoilers.
I love the inclusion of a brighter summer day (even if it's 2 places too low)
I can't imagine a 90s movies list without Titanic
Schindler's list was based on an Australian novel called Schindler's Ark.
Paul Thomas Anderson is actually the talented Anderson among the Andersons.
At number five you mentioned “cape fear” which is a okay film at best. The original is 1000 times better and get zero respect. The more I hear about that remake the more I hate it.
A lot of mention were ok at best
As a european, I just can not understand what do "european film" or "rest of world film" mean: have they become a genre?
The 90s got a full good list of movies. Do a 2010s list and its filled with superheroes
BEST OF THE 90'S... WHAT???!!!
how can:
"Cool as Ice"
"Ghost Dad"
and
"Batman & Robin" (Nipple-suit)
Not be on this list???!!!
FAKE
Because those movies aren't good? Yep that's it
Brian Reed I think he was joking.
So, this is not the top 9 movies of the 90''s but the top movies from the 90's in 9 categories for the record.
Schindler's List is the only right choice for #1.
I gotta start watching the whole video before I start commenting because I was about to be mad you didn't mention clerk's at number 9 before you mentioned it at 8
Spielberg somehow managed to release Jurassic Park and Schindler's List in the same year (1993). Let that sink in.
No director can pull that thing off.
@@Indeeee Francis Ford Coppola released the Godfather Part 2 and the Conversation in the same year. Just as impressive imo.
Coppola is great for sure but Spielberg is as good if not better same goes for Martin Scorsese.
just imagine.. forrest gump, shawshank redemption, pulp fiction and lion king were playing at the same time in the theaters..
That’s insane. Those are 4 of my favorite movies of all time
the lion king lmao
@@leninmckay3144 Highest grossing animated movie all time when it came out, hailed as the greatest animated film of all time by many...yes... The Lion King
@@Author_SoftwareDesignerspider verse is better
@Aariz Khan You guys must be under 22 years old
Are you gonna do this type of list for every decade?
Oh please!
Could work up to 70's but after that it'd get super dark and not very profitable views wise, still that gives them 4 videos worth so let's hope so
Maybe they started at the 90s so they can do the 2000s in a month and then the 2010s right at the very and of the 2010s.
jaime martinez what the hell does “super dark” mean lol?
Ooh I can’t wait til the 1530’s! Great year for film.
you should really do this for the 70’s, 80’s’ 00’s and 2010’s
And 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, 10s and 1890s
The 70s needs a top 100 list
if they do this they will only have 7 movies for 70's
8 movies for 80's
0 for the 2000's
10 movies for 2010's
@@piranha5506 YES!! i was thinking about decades the other day and I think 70's is clearly the top. and 90's bottom but it was still good.
@@jameslivesey8322 90s is NOT the bottom
I’m not surprised that CineFix started out their list with a movie I’ve never heard of.
It's on Netflix, its really good!
I'm pretty sure I've never heard of and/or will never see about 25% of the movies CineFix talks about.
@@KEVMAN7987 I only never watched 3 and 2
@@Rustythesuperdehero Hard Eight is on Netflix?
@@miscellaneousshadow7452 It was awhile ago but might be taken off now, I watched it on there
Seeing La Haine in this list put a smile on my face.
So far, so good.
I was recommended that movie long time ago with the highest of praise. I saw it and was underwhelmed by how unspectacular it was. Surely, my high expectations may have played a part, but still... nothing special.
@@marcusbrsp it's incredible. Very simple but powerful message and a jaw dropping ending.
No fightclub? I know we are not supposed to talk about it but dude!
SSSSSSHH
Other films exist there you know
@@ДулмаДД but fight club is the best movie of 90s besides pulp fiction and goodfellas.
@@dawsondjodvorj2408 fight club is super overrated as well as pulp fiction.
@@ДулмаДД oh come on man, are you kidding me?
I'm glad you mentioned A Brighter Summer Day. It is one of the best films ever made and practically nobody has seen it.
the remastered blu ray totally changed my opinion of the film, I consider it the best film of the 90s as well
is it worth getting the criterion?
Chris Getchell Of course. Just look at their effort in restoration.
I guess I'm going to watch it to be among the 40+ few people who gave you a thumbs up and agreed with you...🙂
It's the best movie and one of the best of all time
That comment about cocaine was as unexpected as Spielberg making Schindler’s List
Damn i didn't realize just how many amazing movies came out of the 90's. One of the best decades for cinema.
The 1995's Oscars had to choose between Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction (among others). Glad I wasn't in that jury! :D
Jake Tobey The best*
Joshua Bergstein and somehow Forrest Gump won
Toy story, casino, heat, usual suspects and se7en
@@MohammedZaidHussain24 those are 1995 movies, guy.
Cinefix: "Trainspotting out of the UK...."
Me: "F*** they're not going with trainspotting? Bloody idi..."
Cinefix: "La Haine"
Me: "All is forgiven"
Trainspotting was amazing. On the other hand haven't seen La Haine, but looks good.
Trainspotting was huge in the UK and boosted the UK film industry exponentially. I love La Haine though.
Trainspotting is phenomenal. The sequel is amazing too!
@@DodgyDan4 I remember when I heard a sequel was coming out. I was so excited!
Trainspotting is my #1 of all time, but I can live that La Haine is listed, must see as well!
The Prince of Egypt is probably the most underrated animated movie ever made.
You can't change my mind.
Not at all
It's not underrated at all, it did pretty good at the Box office and with the critics
Ask people on the street about that movie and see if it's remembered as well as shrek or the iron giant.
Even movies like Anastasia and ferngully are better remembered then the Prince of Egypt outside 20 something year olds who saw it with their youth group.
Osmosis Jones anybody??
Treasure Planet*
The list is great, but u can't make a 90's list without Pulp Fiction.
just did
Adam K
Yeah, and the list is shit.
It was there. And most people can't articulate why Pulp Fiction is supposedly such a classic anyway.
Sippin' On 'Scaato Drinkin' That 'Scaato
And that’s dumb on their part. It’s quite arguably the greatest movie of all time. It is in my opinion.
@@itscomplicated11 cant imagine being such a QT fanboy that you see a list of movies like this (which includes one of his own movies) and getting pissed that Pulp Fiction isnt on it.
I have yet to see La Haine on these lists and am happy it's here. Definitely one of my favorites and one of the best movies of the 90's.
Seen La Haine, I am yet to see ‘A Brighter Summer Day’
Trainspotting blows it away in my humble opinion :)
@@enragedable Totally fair, it's such a great movie! I also found the sequel very satisfying, if you haven't seen it, i definitely recommend it.
@@ryanwebber5532 The sequel was perfect for me, it made the first movie better, bigger and more nostalgic
haven't come around and seen it yet, damn shame
If you don't burst out of laughter everytime you watch an army of John Malkovichs speaking in John Malkovich, you are dead inside
Not just instant classics. The highest grossing movie of all time AND that year’s Best Picture winner. I think any filmmaker would die to have that.
Cinefix itself has brought that up. You're late. But you got a few likes off it so👏👏
Wow those came out in the same year?
BJM is a really great film, imo. Not a typical comedy, but more of a surreal fantasy
If anyone ever made a list about best 90's movies, they should've make it "Top 50" minimum.
Well Cinefix's top 10 are always just thinly veiled top 100s so it works out haha
Agreed! 90s = best era of film, if you ask me
They did "Top 9" cuz 90s - 9. Get it?
They should have done Top 90.
Leon was one of my favourite 90s movies.
That ending made me cry
I thought for sure your #1 pick would be Tarkovsky's "The Mirror: 20th anniversary edition"!
lol so true :'D
This comment made my day
Great movie.
But certainly not the best.
Citizen Kane Remastered
@@dawsondjodvorj2408 Among one of the best. You can't define what's the best. It's subjective. But being one of the best is not subjective and for many people it is the best. It's at 16th spot on my list.
I still can't believe I've still never seen Schindler's List, just can't find the right occasion to watch it
What occasion do you need? Just watch it! Its really good.
I'm the same. It's hard to think to myself "I'm in the mood to watch Schindler's List".
Be aware that it can be a haunting and possibly depressing viewing experience.
Jordan Leach
Me too 😁
Right!? Still haven't watched it. Also put off Shaw shank Redemption for 6 years because of the sheer amount of expectation I had towards it.
Hi Cinefix, do you have patreon? I would like to pay for your excellent content and i want more of them!
@Mike Cranston Do they really? Only from UA-cam?
@Mike Cranston Cringe
My personal top 10:
Schindler's List
The Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
Princess Mononoke
Fight Club
American Beauty
The Insider
Seven
Whisper of the Heart
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Whisper of the Heart is amazing! I wish more people would talk about it
Eh, fine
I loved The Insider! Seems all but forgotten now. It deserves some rediscovery by the next generation!
