A group of people in my city hosted a book ban. A brave, true American, waiting until close to the end to present his suggestion. He walked up and started talking about the content of the book, he was so eloquent and everyone was cheering. He then raised up a Bible and everyone fell quiet. No books banned.

@@user-ik8tb5qh7cthe point is that children need to have a way to learn what sexual harassment is and that it's bad or they won't be able to identify it if it happens to them. why would you want to remove the resources they can use to learn these things?
Using my powers of observation I have predicted their end goals:
First and foremost, it is important to note that they likely lack experience in the mentality of many queer youths. In fact, one of the speakers goes so far to state that they are "taken aback whenever [they] see a man dress like a woman". This coupled with their argument that the "other 95%" shouldn't be exposed to recourses that would help them in self discovery suggests that they lack even the slightest understanding of the subject as a whole by choice. This sets a precedent that will be exploited in the future to minimize the importance of and possibly eventually outright eliminate other things they don't understand and do not want to understand. Reading comprehension will be next to fall, with math ceasing shortly after. Following this, history will be abridged to leave out the cautionary tales. Chess clubs, too, will be on the chopping block, for they encourage taking your time to think about potential actions before going through with them.
That is why they want to remove it. This is a guaranteed fact, because I am never wrong and my vision of the future is objective. Prepare yourself

@@lpk6372 you really think these book-banners have any clue about capitalism? No. They're tools.
American capitalists love DEI because it distracts from the critiques of capitalism itself, pitting the critics against idiots like these. They can dress it up and use the most extreme and exaggerated examples they can find in an attempt to throw you off-- hell, I was on the side of the book-banners until I looked further into it-- but they literally just don't want their children to be exposed to any information that could _possibly_ lead to them hold different values, opinions, or beliefs.

Agreed. My ex-brother in-law, would be friend (if it weren't for the 2,000 year age gap), JC, literally debated theology/philosophy with the Rabbi's when he was like 12. Yup, critical thinking is brilliant, and it stops YOU from being a sucker. Or easily manipulated.
Critical thinking can only be developed from certain age. 9 yo will not critically think no matter how hard you try. You can generally start teaching critical thinking from the age of 12-13 and expect young adults around 16 to have their own opinion (and not be surprised if it's different than yours). But giving small kids the new woke gender shite will not help them, it just confuses them and brings up wrong problems at wrong age. Also smaller kids are much more susceptible to lies and their world view is black and white. Only after 11 yo they start to see grey areas. That's why we need morally undisputed books for our smallest.
Sad thing is critical thinking skills are no longer taught as teachers are increasingly becoming indoctrinating activists. Open dialog and exposure to opposing views are quickly squashed and replaced with this is how you must think and speak or you are a racist, misogynist, or closed-minded.
You know, "I can't pronounce his last name" is an absolute banger author. They have produced many of my favorite books

These kinds of movements effect other areas as well. This sort of fear campaign against LGBTQ rights has now gotten a foothold in Canada, there's been protests and laws passed. Notably Premier Scott Moe of Saskatchewan passed bill 137 which forces teachers and schools to notify the parents of a student who: uses a different name (nickname), asks for different pronouns to be used, or dresses as the "other gender." This is a forced outing law which violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, so a judge filed a motion to block the bill.
Scott Moe then invoked the Notwithstanding Clause (section 33 of the charter) which allows him to void the Charter as it concerns to human rights for 5 years, and allowed the bill to pass.
The human rights commissioner of Saskatchewan then resigned over this, because she has a trans kid.
Sorry for the rant, Canadian stuff just doesn't usually get covered online, and I wanted to spread awareness. Great video :D
It's going further than simply LGBTQ rights now. Sexuality is just one of many aspects of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, that includes drug use, rape and mental health amongst others.
Conservatives just want to censor anything that causes people to challenge the status quo or have a nuanced view of the world.
As a Canadian, I appreciate you spreading awareness. Don't forget that New Brunswick's Premier, Blaine Higgs, has put forth a similar law to Saskatchewan, Policy 713, and has not ruled out using the Notwithstanding Clause to block legal challenges to his bill. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has already launched a legal challenge, arguing it violates three sections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as the New Brunswick Human Rights Act. Even members of the New Brunswick PC party voted against his bill (Former local government minister Daniel Allain was turfed from cabinet after voting for the opposition motion on Policy 713.)
This is to say we cannot allow people like this to blindly disregard our rights and freedoms based on ideological whims that are not backed up by science.

This is the kind of discourse we need in discussions like this, with people being so vague about why some books deserve to be banned while others (like the Bible) get a free pass because…………… idk.
Happy? Gay? Banned.

How is it possible that we had this national lobotomy?
Donald Trump gave everyone that wanted to be bigoted a license to attack.
Deliberate effort went into it. And lots of money from rich men who prefer to keep the average American as uninformed as possible. If ordinary people found out how they had been manipulated into ignorance as a way of life, things could get messy.

It was done to us.

It's wild how many parents' biggest fear is that their kids will READ A NOVEL. I'm trying to imagine if, in my mischievous youth, my parents searched my backpack and got mad that I snuck a BOOK home. If the reward for your kid reading a whole ass book is that they get to read a saucy paragraph, great. Parents should be thrilled that their kids want to read and if they're good parents, they can just- I don't know- talk to their kids about what they're reading instead of banning books for EVERYONE'S children.
I’m a 63 year old woman from The Netherlands. When I was young I was allowed to read anything I wanted, with the exception of porn, and allowed to watch films that would be deemed inappropriate for my age even in my country these days. When I was ten my mother let me watch a real delivery of a baby that was broadcast on Dutch tv, which was far more open minded then than it is today.
Children shouldn’t be over protected, like they are today (and have probably always been in the US). If they’re not comfortable with the contents of a book or film they’ll stop reading or watching.
This is sad and I'm sorry your parents were like this. My mom brought us to the public library every week and let us choose any age appropriate books we wanted.
Parents' biggest fear should be for their child to get get hurt or be hurt in any way, not fear their kid will turn out smarter than them.
These are the same people who 20 years ago wanted to ban Harry Potter because it made kids want to read. Now they're totally cool with Rowling because she hates at least one of the same minorities they do, but they still hate that kids want to read.
My mom wouldn’t let me read diary of a wimpy kid in second grade. That was my first year in public school, and I had just discovered that my school now had a public library where I could read any book I wanted. I picked up the first diary of a wimpy kid book, and I was so scared of my mom finding out that I hid it in the back of my desk and never took it home. Of course, one day she came to school and decided that my desk was a mess and needed to be cleaned. She found the book and lectured me for about 20 minutes about how much of a negative influence Greg heffley was and I was going to be like him if I read the book. This whole time my teacher just sat there and watched. She still wonders why I don’t tell her anything.
It’s such a self-report what these parents say. They just don’t want to do the job of a parent, yell it from the rooftops, and think that’s a strong intellectual argument for book burning.
They know that liberty is about freedom right?
Like the freedom to read the books you want, unless they believe that only parents deserve liberty and everybody else don’t deserve rights.
Good ol freedom for me not for thee
Came to the school district to educate the board... LEGEND!
I don’t even get how the last speaker jumps from one imaginary issue to her next: “the porn in our schools leads to men playing in women’s sports”.
Huh ?! If I had turned in an essay in school using this kind of poorly developed non-logic, the teacher would’ve run out of red pencils, and then requested a parent-teacher conference, as well as tests for lead poisoning.
Imagine being a teacher and this is the parent you have to deal with? Unreal.
@@waltermasterson I’m now fantasizing about the possibility you might find and interview any of the teachers who previously taught any of these book-banning, Moms-For-Liberty, or other faux save-the-children extremist types. Or even some of their former classmates…?
If that’s too personal, what about profiling some of the schools they attended to get an idea about what they were supposed to have been learning, and perhaps how teachers from their schools view these controversies.
Same would be great for some of the younger politically high-profile people like MTG, Ms. Boebert, Matt Gaetz, DJTJ, and Eric, too.
