    Hey everyone! Thanks for all the awesome comments, though I’m surprised not to see more on a particular moment in the video. But hey, Classy Tech gave me a heads up you CAN check the info on an HDMI input by: hitting the menu button on the top right of the remote, scroll all the way to the right for the HDMI info menu. Thanks, Classy! Also, older Sony TV remotes have a TV button that will give ya some info, too. And then you can always spam the LG green button. Cheers, everyone!

    There’s nothing like big speaker systems to give you the theater experience. Good quality speakers last decades. You can use separate amps, and only upgrade the processor. I’m still old school 5.1 via receiver and large speakers all around. My center is a huge speaker matching left and right. Fronts are 10” single point source, rears are 8” sps. 35+ year old Radian Engineering speakers. Simply build to suit your environment. I don’t think the majority of people have heard high quality audio, and thus miss out on the overall experience. Even though I haven’t upgraded to more speakers, people are always wowed by my simple 5.1 setup because they’re used to TV speakers only. It’s a big difference.

    At least on Sony's Android 12 based sets like the A95L, you can access information about the incoming signal by pressing the MENU key then scrolling to the right on the menu that pops up and press the option "Detailed signal info".
    That brings up a fairly detailed display about what's coming in from the selected input.

    The assumption that everyone watches tv with friends and family keeps coming up and it’s flat out wrong. I enjoy tv best when watching alone, so do many other people. For some people like myself, the Vision Pro will easily replace a tv as the primary source for shows and movies.

      I agree 1000%. I’m usually the only person who cares about the quality of the television or space for it anyway….
      The ability to be able to throw on some noise canceling headphones and disappear into ANYWHERE in your own house is amazing. No matter the size of your place you can create a screen as big as you want…
      For me what it means is that I buy an Apple Vision Pro for me and a base level OLED for watching TV with friends and family.

    I have a Sony A95L. With the A95L, you are able to get input signal information by pressing the button on the Sony remote, scrolling through the options to the end where you will find the option.
    If the option is not present in the row of options presented when you press the button, scroll all the way to the end of the menu list, tap and then ensure that you highlight the option to add it to the list of quick access options that appear when you press the button on your remote.

    Hey Caleb, great question from John. Remember seeing some DVD players in the day would show "Extra Info", Encoding bit-rate, colour mode e.t.c in real-time as an overlayed graphic. Not for the average user but was jealous of equipment that could display this real-time info. Wish this was available now on modern tv's and players as to know what signal process and stream is showing to the user.

    11:05 I love the LG implementation, where its remote can control:
    a. The LG TV itself, via Bluetooth;
    b. My Edifier speakers, via Infrared (IR);
    c. My ISP's set-top-box, via IR.
    Moreover, through HDMI-CEC, I am able to control the Fire TV Cube - alltough I admit I prefer using the original Fire TV remote, due to lag in the HDMI-CEC.
    To be honest, I think Logitech exited the Universal Remote market due to:
    1. Increase in Bluetooth remotes, both in TVs, but especially on set-top-boxes;
    2. Decrease in sales, due to many IR blasters hitting the market, e.g., Boradlink;
    3. Integration fees, in many ecosystems.
    This limits the quality support Logitech has provided the market.

    Caleb, I think you sort of misunderstood what Dolby was doing when the put the Dolby Atmos label on the TVs that they did (that only have stereo speakers). That wasn't to convey that the TV would present audio in Dolby Atmos from just the two, built-in stereo speakers, it was meant to indicate that the TV could handle a Dolby Atmos-enabled source signal and pass it through to an actual Dolby Atmost enabled device like an advanced soundbar or AV receiver once THAT was connected to the TV.

    Why this can't replace my theater room:
    1 - Shared experience with my family (Maybe in the future all of us will be wearing these in a linked experience, but for now... nah.)
    2 - Bass. That very real pressure sensation of your body vibrating from the room shaking just isn't going to be recreated by ANY sort of headphone.

    For the company for which I work in Italy over time we have decreased the amount of video sources and for two years now we have only mounted LG TVs together with Denon Marantz amplifiers, now the latest generation TVs integrate all video streaming apps and no one uses Blu-Ray anymore, as a result we have also stopped installing Logitech remote controls. The HDMI CEC protocol combined with the ARC/eARC has greatly simplified the installation and currently the enjoyment of a Home Theater can take place in complete peace of mind with only the remote control of the TV

    I have a Sony A80J. I believe this was he last gen to have the longer remote vs the shorter one. When it comes to using any of the internal apps you won't be able to find out any specific pic info when hitting the gear/setting button which is on the bottom right for me. There will still be clues to find out if you're in HDR or DV by the picture setting profile name. It won't tell you resolution though. Now when you are using an HMDI source hitting the gear/setting button will show you all the info that you will need like resolution and HDR status.
    Based on this video it seems like the newer Sony TVs opted for the gear/setting button to take you to the picture settings instead. If this is the case then that's a shame. When it comes down to it if it really bothers you then I think it's best to just purchase the older longer remote instead. I've always been a fan of these bigger remote as it has more buttons. I like having the num pad to put in my passcodes and stuff.

    Another reason I heard Logitech canceled the Harmony division was due to the number of customer service calls related to individuals who were less tech inclined and used other remotes causing their Harmony to fall out of sync. I never really considered this until I implemented Harmony remotes at a family vacation home and my sibling's families all struggled with the remotes. I had to take them all away and hide them for them to get accustomed to using 1 remote. They still struggle as they don't realize they need to hold the remote for a period of time at the devices to start the activity.

    Regarding Universal Remotes:
    In my system involving an LG C2, several streamers, a Panasonic Blu-Ray player, a TiVo Bolt, and a Denon AVR, the only devices that seem to have issues with CEC control are the Blu-Ray player and the Denon AVR. In particular, the AVR will pick the wrong input about 10%-20% of the time. I fix this via source selection on either the TV or the AVR, but it sometimes takes a few attempts to stick.

    Caleb, I don't know if I would say "never" in regards to a device like Apple Vision Pro replacing a home theater. I say this because even the first Gen device provides unparalleled pass threw viewing. And impressions of the device sound like screen pinning truly locks that "display" in your 3D space. So you don't need to be cut off from the world in order to watch a large screen in your living space, while also seeing the world and people around you.
    The other is that as these devices become cheaper and more common place, I would imagine they will be adopted on the level of SmartPhones and Tablets. So multiple people could theoretically just sit in on the same content.

    As an integrator of 20 years, plus I can say there are non-consumer grade yet inexpensive, high-quality universal remote options for those of whom who are unwilling to accept the often buggy, nature of CEC. In fact, in many instances, all one would need is an inexpensive remote processor which allows the use of your iOS or android phone or tablet as your remote control. This option allows full uncompromised control for a low cost.

    The flaw I see in phrases like “the future of…” or “the next…” or “…killer” is that they can be interpreted so many ways. The title of this video asks if Apple Vision Pro is “the future of home theater” then answers “No, it’s not going to REPLACE it”.
    Tech often supplements and accumulates rather than replacing or “killing” other products outright. I agree that for the foreseeable future, people will want some kind of big screen viewable by everyone in the room without individual equipment. But for some people some of the time, a high fidelity headset might do the trick. I have a nice projector and sound system but I also just got a new neighbor downstairs 😅 so I’d enjoy a private headset.
    And of course there are also experiences like 3D movies, Immersive Videos, and home spatial videos enjoyed in a virtual environment that are not possible with current home theater tech. You can also bring your virtual home theater with you wherever you go.
    So I think compelling, brand new experiences will make Apple Vision Pro part of the equation.

    Will you be reviewing the TCL 98" (98S550G) and compare it to the Hisense 100" (100U76N) since they are going for the almost exact same price $1,999.99. I was leaning toward the TCL 85" QM8 for around $1750.00 but then the bigger ones came out and the prices dropped to my price range. I'm guessing the Hisense is the best choice here for features and size.

    9:00 no shot in the foreseeable future but things have certainly unfolded in ways I wasn't expecting. I grew up in a time when malls and movie theaters were the undisputed king of entertainment hubs, when people talked to each other and had face to face conversations. People are already buried in their devices and isolated in their virtual (social) worlds, it's only going to get worse. The trend is very dystopian and lonely.

      As sad as it sounds, I could very well see a future where 2 or more people are in a room together each with their own VR/AR headset on "experiencing" things together or separately. People already do that now with their smartphones.

      That’s exactly why the Apple Vision Pro is great. Watching a movie or show is an antisocial experience and should treated as such. Also, FaceTiming a global team or family from across the country is a blessing, not a curse.

    of course at some point it will be way way way better to use a HMD than conventional TVs and projectors. It's OLED, it's perfect lightcontrolled and its very versatile. It's the first Gen with those ambitions.
    You may not like it, but at some point it will probably jeopardize your job - or in other words, the channel content probably needs to be adjusted. But it will probably be another 5-6 years until then. ;)
    The first iPhone was trash, the first iPad was trash, the first Watch was trash. Gives the productline some time to develop.
    Btw: A combination with an audio home theater setup should be possible, but you just lose the advantages of spatial audio, the independent seating. Other brandings will follow.

      lower spec models at high prices.

    Who I think would make a good universal TV remote would be elgato. One thing I hate about TV remotes is the premade subscription buttons on remotes. If elgato implemented the same tech they use for their stream deck and have customizable buttons, that would be *chef's kiss*

    • @frommatorav1
      @frommatorav1 10 місяців тому

      As a consumer, I would love that. However, the subscription buttons on Roku and Firestick remotes are paid for by the app companies, so it may make it more expensive to make remotes without that side money.
      I did get a Sofabaton U1 and it's OK. Bluetooth controls work a little too slowly but it's nice to be able to have it set to the TV and be able to control the firestick through the CEC. I know there's also an app on my phone that could do that but then you have to stop using your phone. It does have macros that can be programmed to the 4 color buttons. I've used a couple just to pull up certain inputs on my receiver. I paid $55 for it, so I wasn't expecting it to be perfect.

    You can get the Apple Vision to watch movies alone or get a 85" mini led and the Sony HT A9 and have a system for the whole family and friends. I hate wearing a headset, it's very uncomfortable and it gets sweaty. Unless Apple puts and Air Conditioner in the head set I don't think it will help.
