Jon, I think this it a great idea. Most folks cannot afford an experimental LSA build anymore, and even once they do the cost of annual expenses, i.e. hangar rent, insurance, condition inspections ect, is going through the roof, and this is such a good alternative. Thanks!
This is exciting! I got my pilot's license in 1971. After a few years in a club, bought a 1963 Beech Musketeer with my Dad. Eventually had to sell to finance our home. Sometime around 2010, I bought plans for the A-plane but got redirected to fly a certified plane. I loved my Beech Musketeer, & when I found a "project" Musketeer for $10K. I was finally back in the air. A couple of years ago we had to downsize drastically, not only sell the plane, but the home as well & moved to the Missouri Ozarks. We have only Social Security to live on. I can do handyman projects for spending money. Thus I am interested again in the A-plane project. I don't know how many changes to the plans have evolved, but at 78 years old am fairly healthy, still have pilot's licences & want to fly. I have the ability & tools to construct this plane. I will follow your project gleefully.
I am eagerly awaiting the next video, in spite of not intending to build an Affordaplane. I am actually in the final stages of my Badland F-2 build currently.
Have a good many hours in GA wings, but, never had more fun than in the many UL's that I've had the pleasure to fly. Currently own a gyro (original design) but, haven't flown in some time now. This is the first time I've ever subscribed to any UA-cam channel. Thank you for this effort & for the clarity I expect you to deliver to your viewers. That Kolb in the background of one of your pics, has always been one of my very favorite planes. What a great performer. Wish you the best of luck & progress on this wonderful endeavor. I'll be waiting with great anticipation on the episodes. Wonderful timing & choice of projects, too. Can't wait to see the end result & the final costs of the project, too. With sources, I hope.
Being 62 with type II diabetes and other issues, getting past the flight medical is not something I can pass most likely. I am working on my part 107 UAS certification right now, and much of the ground school is also part of that.. We have to be able to read sectional, do the weather, and be able to talk with ATC when we fly in zones that take prior clearance from the FAA. I flew sail planes back in the day. I am a USAF veteran. So my interest is strong in aviation and if an ultralight will let me fly, I am all for it.. Lead on.. There I follow...
I’m all in Jon!... It’ll be great fun and I can’t wait! Oh ... on another note, wish I could get your tip of the week on a dvd for the past couple o years. Let me know if u do.
Hi Jon, another great video!! The EAA Ultralight Advisory Council just revamped the UL training guidelines and are working hard on efforts to re-invigorate excitement for ultralights. I'll share your video with the team and we'd love to have you write an article or two for Sport Aviation.
What a great idea to encourage people who want to get involved to do so. It's all well and good watching carbon fibre masterpieces, but to get people into the hobby who otherwise wouldn't be able is a very noble goal. I'll be following the videos to come
I have the plans. I was looking for a scratch build that resembled a Kolb. Well, I like that design. Not sure if that can be done with the front of this plane. This will be my gateway airplane :D Wish me luck and yes I have a lot of interest in this series of videos from your channel! love your work. Thank you for your contribution to aeronautics! I have been watching your videos now for a few years on and off. Its tough to get the wife on board with flying when her grandfather, as the PIC took her up in this Cessna, then decided to show her what the plane could do, she explained it like he tossed her around like a rag doll, as she would tell the story. LOL. He was a great man. RIP gramps!
Looking forward to your videos. May build one myself. I’ve gone from private pilot with a medical to sport without a medical. I built a Rans S7. Loving the freedom. Maybe time for a ultralight. Thanks for the videos, I’ve bought most of them you put out and they helped a lot with the building process
Hello Jon, I have been watching and enjoying your videos for some time. Now I've paid and downloaded the Affordaplane plans. Looking forward to seeing your A plane grow, I'll try to keep up. I guess I'd better get to building. Cheers, Henry

So glad I found your channel !! I'm an old guy, retired mechanic that has always been envious of those who could pilot an aircraft, let alone build and own one.. Live out in semi country land and have always wanted to tree top fly the hills in my part of the state (NE Tennessee) Gonna do it.. Bought and printed my plans. Wife's not even rating to get me to Not do it... hmmm that kinda worries me... LOL I don't need to go fast, don't need any frills....Just want to fly by stick and pedals !! Thank you for going to the tremendous work and worry of making these video's !! James in Tennessee!
I got the Affordaplane plans a few months back with the intention to start building it immediately. I ultimately opted for a low-wing tractor style tail dragger instead, that is now underway. I look forward to the series to guide others to, when they get excited and want to fly their own plane wIth me once my part 103 ultralight is complete. I may even opt to build an Affordaplane after my low-wing plane, so they can fly “with” me while they build their own!

Thank you so much! I've been looking at ultralight kits for a year and talking to kit dealers who expect me to know all about aircraft construction. You've done the research for us and I agree that the Affordaplane is the way to go. I just purchased the plans. Thanks again!
This is perfect. Looking forward to following your Aplane build. Would you please take weights along the way? A bit of an issue is how all the weights add up in the end. By taking weight of the progress, builders can cross-check and see the impact of changes/enhancements they make along the way. Thanks.
Great idea, Jim. It would be great to share what we all experience in terms of 'component' weights as we progress. This project looks too great ... I am all in
