my god, flashlights have come a long way. i remember back when they were little more than dim little dingy electric candles. my dad and i loved building car engines together. of course, whenever things got tricky, i was put on flashlight duty and he would work away at the bolt head, scolding me if i ever let the flashlight off the mark. after i moved from home, we would try to work on engines whenever we could, but it obviously wasnt the same anymore. im glad i got this flashlight. now he can call me whenever he wants, and i can shine a light on his engine from my bedroom window across town. 10/10/
Thanks for the show! Not only are you doing some of the very best flashlight review videos ever. You are #1 at picking the background music. Perfect! : - )
The W4Pro is even more of an insane thrower. We have a local casino just outside town, and from an opposing hilltop road more than 3 kilometers away, I can clearly see windows on the top floors bathed in light. What's equally impressive is that the cars and ground floor underneath are almost completely unaffected. The advantage of having very little spill from so far away from these LEP lights cannot be overstated.
95% of the tune music during videos is annoying and completely detracts to what you’re trying to illustrate, but in this case... You make it seem more like a soundtrack to an epic movie. You’re truly awesome in your taste and placement of music. Well done, sir. Well done!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
These LEPs are great to have when you're late at night in the ICW @25MPH and want to avoid crab traps, identify channel markers and stay 'within' the channel. Yes, they actually do have a place in the real world. Awesome review!
Next time you do long range like this, you should set up a camera at the area you shine, so we can imagine what it would look like to be lit up from that range.
I always love these thrower lights. LED or LEP. When your food delivery driver can't find your address, just tell them to look to the skies! And send out your signal light. :)
So there is and upgraded version Weltool W4 pro tac which is 8 lumens more on high and boasts 3300 meters. From a side by side of the previous W4 the pro seems to have a bigger hot spot. Love to see your take on that FLASHAHOLIC. The pro retails around $479.00 US. If they can ever perfect these LEPs for wider beams it will replace LEDs just my thought, but that is a long ways out. I see Acebeams is back working on LEPs again so maybe they will be the one to break the 4000 meter mark.
The K75 is still badass imo!! I have the K75 , along with the Maxtoch OwlEyes Pro, my Maxtoch is confirmed visible at 85 miles away. It's great for star pointing or Elk hunting, but my K75 is just so much more practical!
These are cool but I have to wonder, if the light at 160m is dangerous to your eyes, how useful or safe would this be for someone using this as a spotlight? You might risk frying your own optic nerve if the light refracts back at you.
No. But no one will want to look at it. The only damage you could do is keeping your eye open and staying at an exposed laser excited phosphor bead. It’s only doing damage because of the brightness not because of laser energy. However, if you look at how tiny the phosphor bead is, that’s the secret. Getting 500 lumen into the eye from a large surface of several LED’s is slightly different than 500 lumen from a 2mm bead. That density is what let’s this flashlight do it’s thing ultimately. However, if you aren’t looking directly at an exposed phosphor just a few inches away without blinking, you are fine. Accidentally flashing yourself or someone else won’t do damage to their eye, however if 500lumen from a regular flashlight scatters quickly, the LEP is the opposite, it will maximize output lumen much farther from the emitter. So whatever 500lumen is capable of doing to you at close range, an LEP will accomplish further from the emitter. The danger is somewhere between LED and Laser with the scale leaning hard towards the usual risks associated with LED’s.
During the battle of the bulge in Belgium in 1944, the Germans shone huge floodlights at the underside of the clouds creating ‘artificial moonlight’. Now you can do that with a fn torch!👍
What this video showed me, is I don't need a LEP flashlight for my job. Unless I want to blind students in the dorms on my beat, indoors, with the lights on.

After hitting the phosphor, the light emitted via fluorescence is not laser light. The light emitted by this flashlight is highly collimated and therefore has a laser like throw, but no this is not a "white laser"
3:10 I think their recommendation not to exceed 10 minutes of high is less about how hot the diode gets and more about the heat stress it puts on the phosphor.
@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV The flashlight has arrived, but I'm not happy with the purchase, I thought better. The spot is not circular on one side it is missing a slice. Poor or defective product.
So all of this light is made by shining a blue laser on diamond phosphor...WOW....could you make it even brighter if you used 2 blue lasers ? or even 4 lasers shining on the phosphor ? I just bought the w-5 and I love it!
That laser diode is being overdriven well beyond 0.25W. I mean that's fine if it's being cooled sufficiently. If the battery life is about 2 hours with an 18Wh battery, the input power is something like 9W! Assuming it uses an 85% efficient driver, the efficacy of the laser at that power would be around 73 lumens/watt. I guess the takeaway here is that this flashlight can achieve long distance illumination without a very large reflector.
The W4 uses only a laser to excite the plasma, but the laser beam does not exit in any way. Therefore, I do not find the classification as a laser justified
I guess I'm just curious as to why there isn't an LEP that has a diverging lens on it for flood, rather than a focused spot beam. I understand how lasers and phosphors work, but I'd be interested to know how an LEP performs as a flood light, if it can even do that at all well.
@Derrin Eckelmann Yeah. I love brass and copper torches and they are wonderful. It's the only reason I brought an astrolux s41 for the copper on it. I can't justify $350 on a one use flashlight that has no spill. I know I've got a problem with buying flashlights because I brought two of the same flashlights (mf01 minis) lol.
@Derrin Eckelmann - other lights throw just as far or further, and will light up a large swath of the ocean. Wouldn’t that make it easier to find buoys on the open ocean?
@Derrin Eckelmann - looking at the beam shots it seemed that others were lighting up the target more, with spill as well. I just can’t imagine that it would be easy to find anything with this light in the pitch black unless you knew where it was already. It’s like looking through a pin hole. Maybe for pointing things out it would be useful.
Great review as always. I see the next problem as. How to make the beam follow the curvature of the earth. I would like to have one. However, it would never come off of the shelf. How hot does the lamp become, if at all?
These lights are pretty cool but what are people looking at from this distance? It seems like you can miss something a couple feet away. I’m not sure I would by one just to say “Wow, look how far I could see.”
@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV that sounds like a great idea. Some flashlights have a sensor built in to shut it off when something gets too close to the beam from some of the videos that I’ve watched.

I'm not sure if I could use one of these 'throwers'. I can't see very well and lighting something a mile away is no good to me. It is cool to have a massive light saber but practicality? dunno. Great video.
this is good for night-snipers ?
I've always been a thrower guy. I think that the biggest attraction to these ones are the size and have always wanted a LEP. Would you say that the £240 they're asking for is a good price?
Seems a lot of money for 300 lumens but it's new technology I guess
A short review wirh the diffusor would be great.
Just ordered one
@@FLASHAHOLIC_TV great. Thanks
Why didn’t they compare the W4 lep to other lep lights. The K75 is a different light.
which flashlight is the one that apeears first? The one that the spills hit the ryan's window?
ACEBEAM K75 I believe
how is it compares to ace beam w30
Do they make smaller models with less distance...for cheaper, like around 50-100$
There is Smaller models but most will be over $100
@1lumen.com. (LEP Flashlight) There are around 10 currently available, depending on where you look/shop. Price range of around $175. - $300. USD
I've dealt with your Source for this video, posted a review, clean, polite, and truthful. They deleted my review! I asked in chat why they deleted my negative review... I was banned 🚫
I am actually surprised how good the Astrolux MF02S did.
Be great in a pilot's "Oh shit!" bag.
He can shine it down on annoying laser pen users!!
Looks identical to the Acebeam W30, in both looks and performance, one of my favorite flashlights I've ever owned. I've got it slung under my AR-15 right now, its a laser at close range and turns into a spot light beyond that, I can sight on stuff at 1000 yards at midnight. Whats the cost? The Acebeam set me back $300 for the high CRI version, so I imagine this is around there...
AR-15 = noobgun
@@blob2092 people who call AR-15s noobguns= idiots.
Hello, Where can I buy batteries for the Weltool W4 in Canada? What battery type do I need to buy? Thanks Matt
I’ve been looking. eBay. I did get the beston battery recommended by Banggood. (Listed with the W4) 5000 mah 21770 (21700 button top) there are other options too from what I have found in button top protected cells, around. Ace beam, fenix, nitecore seem pretty similar in numbers. I’ve ordered an ace beam 5100 mah to try as well.
Lmao I love that I’m a leper already , where I get one that I can see next week yesterday with
How long does the w4 last on the on position ? Minutes or hours ?
Should be hours
I have the W3 and Acebeam w30. No prior light can ever hold a Candela to LEP.!
OK, now that's a search light indeed!
You need a tripod with those super range lights.
Does the beam really reach 2,670m?
Roughly yes
