The Indian government did not divide Punjab but acceded to the demand of division so that punjab can be a sikh majority state with a sikh chief minister. It was the first step towards the khalistani agenda for a separate country. The Pakistani punjabi mindset has done a great job building Pakistan.. Now that they have overused their Islamic identity for their destruction, they may want to leech on to punjabi identity with fellow supremacists on the other side. You will be glad to know that both khalistani and islamic individuals worked together to hack a "non-believer" hindu to prove their terror credentials recently..

Lohri is a farmer's festival, an agricultural festival. It is the celebration of the arrival of longer days after the winter solstice. According to folklore, in ancient times Lohri was celebrated at the END of the traditional month (in the Punjabi calendar) when winter solstice occurs. That is why Solstice is in December and Lohri falls in January. Lohri does not celebrate the shortest day of the year. It celebrates the days getting longer as the sun proceeds on its northward journey.
We Indians have always cared for nature and were brilliant in calculating days months and have food and festivities according to climate. It's a science.

Lohri ? Sundri mundri? Aadr aaye diladar jaye ? Lohri heralds the beginning of the end of the dark, bleak, dreary winters and the beginning of warm days. Anthropologically it is related to the agricultural calendar. It heralds the harvesting of the Rabi crops. A bonfire is lit and oblations are offered to the sacred fire. ’Aadr aaye diladar jaye’ (may honour come and poverty vanish) in the form of sesame, peanuts, popcorn, puffed rice and jaggery. Cosmologically the fire has a close cultural connection with the institutions of family and kinship, the rituals, customs, ceremonies of birth, marriage and death which invoke Agni. The festival of Lohri signifies abundance, bounty and the community spirit. The fire is considered to be animate, alive and pure. The festival of Lohri invokes many legends, the most popular linked to Punjab’s Robinhood Dulla Bhatti, an outlaw during Akbar’s reign, who saved the honour of two Hindu brahmin girls and got them married on Lohri. The sight of children going around houses singing Sundri mundri ho, tera kaun vichara ho, Dulla Bhatti wala ho asking for Lohri is an integral part of Punjabi folklore.

It's not Winter Solstice- which as you say, is in December, beingthe longest night / shortest day. Lohri is the astronomical day when the earth starts coming back from the furthest point from the Sun in its elliptical orbit. On 13th January mostly, the Earth, tilted with the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern Hemisphere being nearest to the Sun, starts on its journey back, thus marking the journey back towards spring and summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

Background of Lohri During king Akbar there was a muslim man Dulla Bhatti. He was brave true Muslim. He saved 2 girls life Sundri and Mundri , and then he treated them as his own daughters and got them married and spend all the marriage cost from his own pocket. After marriage that evening they lights up a fire and celebrate the wedding. Lohri festival has something concerned with Pakistan punjabi famed Dulla Bhatti, a brave man who helped girls in one way or other...
It is said'Poh ridhi,Magh khadi'.
We celebrate this festival passionately every year.

@@sukhpindersangha4254 In the blood both that took place after the partition, Punjab on both sides was bloodied not physically but in terms of literature, culture and religions. There are some cultures left on both sides. Now that the world has entered the era of the Internet, communication is easy. It has happened, especially the partition stories of UA-camrs made the young generation think a lot. Now it is necessary that both the governments should facilitate the visa. Indian Punjabis will be more inclined towards Pakistan, that's why Indian Punjab was divided from time to time by Indian govt. Pakistan is also not advancing beyond a limit that the ideology in the name of which Pakistan was taken will be in danger. And world powers like America, Russia and China are benefiting from the harsh policies of both governments india and Pakistan. A visa and trade free policy should be followed like Europe. Think for yourself how many positive effects are being felt by opening Kartarpur. . Yes, the many political party on both sides lives on hatred, speeches because if they do not incite hatred, their political shops will be closed.
@@mehr7861 I concede its possible that khalistani punjabi sikhs are more inclined towards pakistan and islam.. punjabi is a bigger term which include non-sikhs as well.. they will surely like to stay away from shared supremacist, hateful and violent mindset which is common between people living on both sides of the border..

Very nice brother. Great efforts from your side in bringing up the forgotten cultural festival. 👍
I guess Lohri and Baisakhi are one and the same. One of the Great Guru of Sikhs Shri Guru Govind Singh ji started the Khalsa on Lohri .Please correct if I am wrong

Dula bhatti village is left in Pakistan. They should be more aware. We in punjab still remember him in the song during lohri.

@@harnoorsingh1287 absolutely right.

Background of Lohri
During king Akbar there was a muslim man Dulla Bhatti.
He was brave true Muslim.
He saved 2 girls life Sundri and Mundri , and then he treated them as his own daughters and got them married and spend all the marriage cost from his own pocket.
After marriage that evening they lights up a fire and celebrate the wedding.
As it was a social cause so since then everyone celebrate Lohri by lights up a fire and cook sweet dishes like Gurr Wali Kheer
Those marriages were done on the day of a special hindu's festival named lohri. So sikh and punjabi hindu celebrate this festival together.
No, he was a hindu Gurjar
@@Manoj_bhiduri nahi bhai vo muslim hi tha, or akbar ke khilaf tha end may akbar ne use sooli per chada diya.vo muglo ke khilaf tha, uske father or grandfather ko bhi mughlo ne maara tha. Usne akhiri tak mughlo se larai lari.
Ye tyohar India k har state mein manaya jata hai naam kuch alag hote hai jaise onam, pongal, makar sakranti ya sakranti , this festival is as old as civilization itself
