@@zaziedabeast9692 My knowledge of Fields is limited but I was commenting on the design of the plays. Big improvement from last year - not predictable, well designed with options 😉
I agree. But i think it was because of our Offensive Line playing with an edge early! Zach Frazier our rookie center was the highest graded player on the field and thats not a surprise. He set the tone early, Najee set the tone as well. I think we will see an even better Justin Fields now that they have a week to install a scheme instead of a couple days and 1 full practice of Fields like week 1.
@raymondrak961 Yes, I noticed that. What I'm saying is i expected Fields to have more splash plays. Fields is still playing like the oc isn't ready to take the chains off. When the oc lets him be him, it's over.
Excellent evaluation. Just in this first game we can see the difference in the offense. While not perfect, Fields made some throws that I honestly do not believe could have been made last year. And, getting Pickens involved early is excellent. I like the direction of the offense.
We are so back. I love that spread play with the 4 tight ends. We obviously need to improve on red zone but half the league does as well and we’ll take any win early in the season as we can. Looking really positive for a competitive playoff team if we can get in the end zone and take a little pressure off the D 🙏🏽
Thank you for mentioning the "down by contact" call. I thought i was going crazy bc i hadn't heard anyone else bring it up. It was a 10 yard difference
I don’t think the simple gameplan was just for Fields. I think all the guys needed a safety net, especially the o-line. It’s different when a new QB plays for an established offense versus a situation where everyone is new. For me, the biggest change from the past few years that showed we were intentionally holding back this game was when we took a chance on getting points before the half. Last year we’d have let the clock run out and I wouldn’t have complained if we did. But when we wanted points by taking a chance, we got points. I LOVE ending a half with points, especially after we had just been scored on. It’s great for morale.
I liked how they helped the rookie linemans by having the rookies help each other every play with doubling a player instead of having the rookies one on one against great defense lineman. We just need to have our O line gel together but we look in the right track and all of our lineman’s were also finishing plays which is a huge difference compared to these past couple of seasons
Remember JF spent 3yrs in chi-town 😮 I think if he were to start rest season he has a real good chance of becoming more consistent n just all around better🤷🏻♂️
There are maybe a handful of QB that can make that throw fields made on that half roll sail route to Pickens. AK hopefully you have a Z Frazier breakdown coming up. He was literally pancaking people all day. I think it was first snap he buried Jarrett
I said this on the site but it was REALLY nice to see the coach scheme up something for a big play when we needed it during the 2 minute drill. The scheme created a big play for the players to succeed in. That was nice. Then again for him to scheme up that QB run towards the end of the game. It was just a nice change of pace.
Can't remember who said this on the radio last week, but a Bears fan quoted "you'll be amazed by some things that Fields will do and you'll be frustrated by other things Fields will do."..........I'd say that Bears fan was 100% spot on.
Wow the officiating was bad. There were a handful of questionable call/non-calls i remembered, but didn't even notice the one where Pickens was ruled down by contact until now. Also the play where Jefferson had the illegal formation- i would not have complained about a Roughing the Passer call there. Hard to tell from that angle but it looks like Fields got slammed to the ground and the defender put a good amount of weight on him.
I was honestly surprised at how well Fields played. Fields looked more comfortable as the game went on. No TDs. But no Turnovers. They kept scoring FGs and that was fine.
Fields had a couple of good throws in the Falcon game. What I'm looking for is consistency, or what Tomlin says doing routine things routinely. Can't win all games with 6 field goals, what if the Steelers had lost the game, would we still have the same conversation about Fields with his first game stat line??? Still would like to see Russ play.
Personally I really like Field’s, and I’m intrigued by how good he could become. He’s not all good but imo he’s not nearly as bad as some of these folks are screaming about. The biggest head scratcher for me is the ones who want to pretend Kenny Pickett was a better option . And the ones who hope he doesn’t play good enough to start to save a fourth round draft pick .
I'm one of the those. Pickett looked bad in Canada's offense (obviously), but the one game he had post Canada he was great, and obvioisly he would continue to grow in a real offensive system. Go look up kurt Warners breakdown of that game vs cinci. He was reading the defense well, making great throws, just generally showing he had "it". Oh also... He never turned the ball over. Fields did enough in this game, but he is known as a turnover machine who can't read defenses. We'll see.
@@alexm2889 How many points they put up in Picketts best career game? If Justin Field’s threw two touchdowns in nine weeks I would no longer be intrigued by him either.
@@thebeardedclam4565 they put up 24, but Tomlin didn't throw the challenge on an obvious DJ touchdown. That's not bad for a first outing with a real OC.

Steelers need some crossing routes across the middle of the field to Pickens and Austin on the move to help the running game. Need passes into the end zone instead of trying to run everything in. Balance the offense Smith and don't be afraid to throw the ball.
Steelers made a comment that the reason why they didn’t dial up passes to the middle of the field was because their two outstanding safeties. Didn’t need to take unnecessary chances.
The reason they didn't throw/run crossers this game is bc they have 2 all pro safeties & were playing "middle field closed" coverages, 2 high, spinning 2 1 w/robber coverage ie - where Minkah used to get all his picks until teams wised up and stayed the hell away from him like Smith & Fields did vs Bates & Simmons this game. For other commenters, expecting a very raw, under-sized, mid-round rookie WR, who missed all of camp to be a significant contributor is something that's not gonna happen. The TEs will work the middle more, & the running game will improve with less Jefferson/Austin & more Hayward & Skowronek. Wouldn't be surprised to see Brandon Johnson too bc Jefferson was sooo bad.
I think that with CA19’s speed he should be running the hitch after he has made the safety turn his hips. Allowing him to sit on his route is dangerous. The other way he can comeback to the ball as well.
does any1 think GP was a little diontae johnsin ish on that catch where he was "ruled" down??? becuz he could have kept running up straight and scored but instead he cuts back backwards????
16:18 Definitely needs to get the ball out quicker but just as well I'd love to see a double move there with a pump fake to take advantage of the aggressiveness of those safeties.
Kyle Allen already deserves a shot to be Steeler's starting QB. Within 3 yrs, Tomlin is on 6 QBs (since 2022) Currently we have 3 third string QB's who signed for only 1yr each! Not trusting Tomlin, Rudolph made it for the door & will eventually start for the Titans

Although that failed QB sneak was ugly and appeared rush, I like the play call better than what Canada was doing. Think back to last year against the Texans or colts, when we faced a must covert 4th and short, they lined up in shotgun and threw an inaccurate pass.
If Cousins doesn’t throw that last boneheaded interception or Boswell misses a long field goal and the Falcons win what’s the narrative on this game? 150 passing yards is not gonna win games much less 150 passing yards while your defense gifts you 3 extra possessions. Idk why people can’t just call this game what it very obviously was. Trash offense rescued by incredible defense and special teams.
