Is this wing the only viable option in feudal age? I was working on trying the master smiths wing and gathering a decent feudal army to all-in but not sure if it's worth it.
Master Smith's is for obvious reasons useless by the next age and only for very specific timings and even then is weak as much of the benefit will be irrelevant to your army
Either the trades or the free vills and extra berries is going to put your eco further ahead way more than some initial blacksmith savings . Remember early game having more units is way stronger than blacksmith upgrades. More than that , matchup dependent. If your archers +1 makes them deal 2 instead of 1 or 3 instead of 2 that's huge. Diminishing effects for 4 instead of 3 etc
Be aggressive early it also reduces their landmarks generated resources bonus when enemy units are around. If you let them boom and turtle you lose. Knight civ are the best against them.
