I watched it too again and instantly got me goose bumps... this video just opens so many questions to me.
Whats the name of the game?
It is not a game. Was a concept to show the capabilities of the engine they were working with, is my understanding.

Eight years after the fact, I noticed something:
Before Kara begs for her life, the engineer makes her cover up her newly-skinned privates with her hands *before* putting the clothes on her because he sees it as simply procedural- she has no reason to want for modesty, she's a computer.
However, *after* she begs for her life, he puts on the clothes before her skin forms, because, as a person, she deserves modesty as a default.
You see her really begin to awaken the moment she is given a name. Her eyes.
Interesting to note she feels the need for modesty and feels shame from the get go, whereas a human being has to learn to feel shame from outside influences like society, not inner programming. Proof the "chick" in the video was artifical :P

This would make a great movie if they extended it. Maybe she gets an owner who is abusive and then ends up killing the owner in self defense. This causes the robotics manufacturer to try and capture her, causing her to seek out the programmer who designed the A.I. that the AX-400 series uses and why she is different. At least that is what I thought off the top of my head.
That's the plot to I Robot.... pretty much.
And then what do you know:

If this becomes a game or a CGI film, it’s going to be the most epic thing ever. Imagine the possibilities. She’s the definition of singularity. She’s immortal and she has emotions and at the same time, the world looks at her as some sort of “merchandise” even though she acts and feels pretty much alive. I just hope that this doesn’t just end up being just a tech demo. I’d pay 1000$ for it, I swear.
I'd pay half a amillion to have such a being in my life. I'd love to care for her and teach her and have a friend with such a pure, gentle heart.

I know this is just a trailer for a game or whatever, but I really want to know the rest of Kara's story. This 7-minute video really touched me emotionally.

epicparade1 this was a tech demo from Quantic Dreams. This is basically a proof of concept video for what was suppose to be possible on the PS3.
Gordon Shumway did you see the trailer for Kara involving Alice and Todd? I think it will live up greatly.
I will say this about David Cage, he has an incredible mind to come up with something so emotional for just a tech demo. Now six years later he is making a game based off of it.
This was made nearly three years ago, and is still commented to this day.
Why is this still just a jaw dropping clip, instead of a multimillion dollar trilogy?
If hollywood can turn the shortest book written by jrr tolkein into a three parter, they can turn a seven minute clip into three art books, a trilogy of two hour movies, a prequel that makes millions but sucks, two spinoff tv shows, a cooky cartoonish sidekick to make beanybabies out of. And a purfume deal for the female lead.
***** Quantic Dream's idea? These android having human-like qualities and feelings have been done before (iRobot, Metropolis book and movie, and Janelle Monae's concept albums based on Metropolis is practically what this story is going to be like).

this was a tech demo testing new technology before beyond two souls. beyond two souls is what came out of this technology and for me it was great. they created a game with great graphics and a female lead. it just wasn't kara. it was Jodie. heh.

This isn't a trailer for that, it was tied to no project because this was the updated engine that they used to start development on beyond shortly after. Sure Detroit is a game now and she is a part of it I would assume mostly because of her being a fan favorite.

This made me cry the first time I saw it, by far the best short film I've seen. I'm not sure if it was meant to be a short film or a game trailer, I can't remember, but a new one just came out and it's a trailer for a full game! I'm so excited!

***** Yup she is a defective robot that is just simulating emotion. But I do believe that it is possible for a robot to have real emotions, if you not only program them to simulate emotions, but also program them to truly feel emotion as well. I have no concept of how this could possibly be done(no one does, since it is not yet fully understood how humans feel emotion), but I believe it's possible.

John Brown A program that can emulate a human is so so so significantly more advanced than any program ever created. Not even the most advanced programs created by nasa or darpa come close.

I find it incredible that David Cage makes a 7 minute video of a female android yelling "I'm scared" having more emotional impact than any of his previous games.

Kara and Ava are two completely different AI in a completely different universe. Quantic Dream played no part in the creation of Ex Machina and have no plans on using Kara in any form in the future (currently). However, if you enjoyed Kara, you might enjoy Ex Machina.

What if the whole thing was an emotion test? A standard script along the lines of, "Oh, it went wrong, we have to disassemble you now," to make sure the android would express the proper reaction to certain stimuli? I mean, you can ask all the informative questions you want, but to have a robot express artificial feelings is on an entirely different level of AI technology.
That's kind of what I thought. I mean, you wouldn't want to have a robot perfectly fine with dying.
There's a better idea for a movie. The military creates robots, decides to shut them all off, but one is in an area it can hear the order and is able to change itself into a version where it doesn't get shut off by the wireless signal sent out.(smashing a sensor, etc.) Then it has to protect itself, it's most important task for itself, while making sure it doesn't disobey orders, it's most important top priority task.

This has powerful emotion in it. Seeing her heart pound heavily as she's about to lose her existence is so intense. My question is, what are we humans? We're robots of the Earth, our brains take information and use signals to operate. Many humans have malfunctions such as abnormal activities that are deemed irregular to society such as self destructive behaviors like murder and psychopathic mentalities. It's an interesting concept but what if we are robots of a futuristic civilization? Planting our DNA to evolve and create itself into a fully functional and operational being/organism to sustain a civilization on it's own and soon become as it's creators and create life. What if the only true form of life non robotic is God? Anyhow, powerful video.

The game says that Kara had been bought and swapped hands by many people before finally ending up with Todd. It also said that Kara whispered her name to Alice, so I think that Kara is the same one from the 2012 demo. I also believe that she may have been the one where deviancy originated from. She was deviant when she was constructed and let into the world. Kemski said that it spreads like a dormant virus and that when androids meet each other they transfer data, the virus too. It is possible that Kara gave the code for deviancy, by accident, to many other androids which in turn spread it to other androids and so on. Nobody noticed any of this until traumatic experiences awoke the dormant virus in androids. That’s when they started to act deviant. I think it’s cool how all the production around the game started with Kara and that all the events happening in the game are because of Kara’s creation.
Fun theory
Joshua Hale Kara is the origin of the Android's deviant behavior. It all makes sense now, she kept her memory until she reached Todd's house and met Alice. Todd tore her apart and this led to the opening of Detroit become human.
8 years later... I still come back to this video to tear up a bit, and I've successfully platted DBH. So proud.
Never did i think this early tech demo would actually see the light of day of fully fledged game and that makes me really happy to be proved wrong

ehh.. idk, im kinda curious what quanticdream could deliver, i mean, they already said they make "interactive movies", so in thier essence this could be what you want...
Also, i find a game more powerfull to deliver emotions and expretions throught interactivity than just watching it, since they make you literally part of the story not only by being an espectator but giving you control over the characters to make decisions or acomplish a goal, not by pretending to be the character or helping it, but by making yourself into it.
i know i know, its kinda sad if you think it in a way its just a *game*, but just give it more time when thinking about it, it goes deeper and haves much more impact than a movie, unless you don't like to feel guilty or are afraid of "crying" or some excuse like that

IT would've been even cooler if that dissassembling thing was just another test that she had to pass. I mean she is a robot that has to immitate a human beeing, and being a next level android she's supposed to immitate the feelings as well. For example, when she's told she's a merchandise, she felt she was some sort of thing, but she's not, cause no human would accept that, and in the face of death even her heart beat speeds up because she's scared, which only animals and people can be. But then it would be a whole other concept of the story, maybe not so touching..but deffinitely a cooler technology ;)
That would make an amazing sequel! Like Kara changed humans' minds about the technology and eventually everyone's demanding a robot that CAN feel things.

Not sure, that scene developed a lot of a emotion and was actually kinda touching. At first he didn't have a problem disassembling her but the second she said "I'm scared..." Was the moment he knew she had feelings like a human, and wanted to live... I think its good the way it is. To be honest if they did that I'd be sorta disappointing since it was a real good build up. Plus the whole "It was part of the test thing." has been used a lot, and most of the times it was used it just left that gap in my chest that's like "hm...that could have been a big shocker." But I would like it if they made another video with an alternative ending like that. I'd be interesting c:

I get that she said that she could be used as a maid and be a caregiver for kids, but it's almost like in the final game Kara didn't escape from the factory and was predestined to work as a maid. Did she realize her consciousness later on?

The first time I saw this video in 2012, I was literally hypnotized. I was fascinated by this video and what she was saying. That is so powerful, the despair is almost palpable, you can't stay impassive. I love it so much that I watched this video several times. For several weeks
If this were to become a game in the future, I think it'd be really interesting for it to involve the worker who let her slip through with the effective models. Maybe he goes back to save her or find her later on or something, I don't know. I just think it'd be interesting to see more from both of them, Kara and the worker.

I would rather the game be played 100% from her perspective. I can actually imagine the whole thing turning out quite tragic in the end.

Who came here after playing Detroit Become Human? I just can't believe this was posted on 2012. Her face looks different though compared to her version in DBH. This version of Kara does look like Valorie Curry, while the other Kara from 2018 looks similar to JLaw. Just my opinion, though. So, does this supposed to be the history of Kara before her apperance again in Detroit Become Human?

Oooh, really? I didn't know that. Poor Kara. Well then, this Kara could be the initial version of her before they decided to alter her personality and becomes the Kara that we know in DBH. They were on the same model though, AX400. But one thing that still bugged my mine is: why did they changed Kara's appearance? We could obviously see that this version of Kara is like using a different facial model than the one in DBH. Or is it supposed to be entirely different?

if the engineer doesn't want the robots to be humanized at all, maybe he shouldn't keep referring to them as "honey" and "baby". doesn't make sense to do that if there were any kind of protocol at all around these things, which he implies there is
