    Franco was NOT an admirer of Adolf Hitler, come on¡¡¡¡¡ He was clise to him when needed, and then he changed to the Allies. Franco was Monarquist and catholic conservative, Hitler was republican, Agnostic and Socialist.

      Yes, that's why the far right party does the Nazi salute to this day and Franco had a Nazi flag, given to him by Hitler, in his home till the day he died. Franco also aided the Nazis during WWII and allowed them to spy on allied forces in Spain as well as supplying the Nazis and allowing German banks in Spain during WWII. Not to mention giving Himler a list of all Jews in Spain for the final solutions and sending Jews and Spaniard political opponents to the concentration camps.

      Rubbing elbows might not be the same as admiration, that's correct. However, Hitler banned opposition parties, was an ethno fascist, and was officially a Catholic.

    14:03 The exact same things happened to Kings over millennia . Long tenured or troublesome Monarchs often had to negotiate to remain in power or get a tax for a war, something had to give. Always a give and take. Spain is another interesting tale of a European people.

    The parallels between Janos Kadar's efforts to contain dissent and maintain Communism through the economic benefits of "goulash" communism and Franco's efforts to maintain his authorian Falangist regime are both striking and ironic. Another great irony is that Spain has evolved into the more liberal and democratic society while post Communist Hungary appears to have chosen a road toward less democracy and greater authoritarianism.

      Economic estability", because many people had died at war; others had fled away just before the end of the war and when it finished, so there was work to be offered and estability specially for the "winners", because most of the food was for them...and by the way: people were "still" starving to death...

    It's fascinating and terrifying how Franco and the war are eternal divisions. Workers and peasants vs the state, vs the aristocracy, and vs the child touching clergy. Despite always being in the right, the workers and lay people always lose. The struggles continue.

    The only thing I don't understand is how and why Benidorm, Ibiza, Canary Islands' hotels were constructed during the time of Franco. What was the role and the objective to start the whole-sale tourism under his rule, and Yes, many foreigners started to visit Spain for holidays still under his regime. No documentary answers this question...
