Years ago I realized the preferred way Eevee and Doug 'take a break' is they usually move to a DIYfferent project. Of course there's a few rare exceptions but switching tasks is more the norm. That makes them happy and that is ideal for them. President Maverick's new ride will bring them so much happiness it was obviously a wise investment. (I know people that spent more than that on a tropical vacation and it rained every day. Their cabana flooded. They were miserable and regretted the entire experience. 10yrs later they continue to complain.) Eevee and Doug work hard! They are admirable parents with wonderful children. It's none of my business how they spend their money because they earned each and every penny. I will say I am delighted they find items the entire family can and will enjoy. THAT IS AWESOME PARENTING! On a bit of a selfish note, I am very thankful they share parts of their journey with us! I always learn something new and I always feel I have watched an uplifting and interesting family living their beautiful lives in harmony. And that is a v-e-r-y good thing!

I fully understand! In 2009, I bought a museum quality 1985 Cadillac Seville from a retired Cadillac designer. I was absolutely terrified of damaging the car. I rarely drove it, and just kept it in a secure parking deck. After a year, I realized that I was not enjoying the experience, and sold her to another collector. Cars were built to be driven and used!

As for the antenna, try your fuses. And for the high idle, try looking at the timing. A professional mechanic who you cam barter your talents for his, always works. It COULD be a flood car. Look under your carpet. Rust will be there IF there was high water . There's a muffler patch and kit you can use until you can get your imported stuff. I go to pick n pulls (auto junkyard) to get my parts at a cheaper price. Remember, THIS is YOUR BABY! other opinions (even mine) are just suggestions for making a way of thinking certain facets of a diamond. You SHINE and the RIGHT pathway will be evident!
P.s. I dated a mechanic and we did fix up a few cars.

You should be able to idle it down pretty easy. That car looks great for as old as it is. I would try to replace as many hoses as possible. You don't know how long it was sitting and not being driven. They could have dry rot like the tires. Which could leave you on the side of the road. Still it's a great looking vehicle. Congrats on acquiring it.

I'm glad you said that because putting the ls engine in was my first thought if the engine or transmission ever encountered catastrophic damage.
Also I like a loud-ish good sounding exhaust but not a busted up exhaust. So a decent magnaflow muffler and new custom 2.25" pipe would sound good with the 4.4L v8.

    Couple things:
    1. You got a really good deal, cheap enough not to worry about DIY work.
    2. You can use carb cleaner carefully sprayed around the vacuum lines and intake to check for leaks. The engine should Rev up a little when you spray near a leak, may also bog a little.
    3. I agree tires need replaced. I'm curious if the old rubber has date codes. It's a Julian date code, first 2 digits are week and second 2 digits are year.

  • @jimnmom

We had a old BMW with similar problems that turned out to be vacuum leaks , a few small ones, so I bought a vacuum leak machine for about 130 bucks
and in less than 5 minutes I
knew exactly where the leaks were at and fixed them and that was the end of that mystery, it
    was money well spent .

The car suits yall perfectly, on the Tint issue with living in South Ga myself I know how the heat is. I would advise using a ceramic tint and tint the front windshield with like at least a 50% tint ceramic also with it being all black you will notice a HUGE difference. JMO other than that love the new channel. 😊

Very nice! Hey just wanted to mention. When you get all the vacuum lines taken care of.
I would check timing before adjusting the Idle.
Also it is possible to look at other models from that era that had same or likable parts.
Anyways just throwing some thoughts in the wind.
    Many blessings, and enjoy.

I love that you guys are finding pleasure with your HARD earned money! Way back I had a 68 mustang. I absolutely loved that car. It got stolen, I reported it, never heard anything else about it. While I had it I did all the oil changes etc. on it. During that time a mechanic friend told me dudes would raise the idle speed to mask problems, maybe like missing or bad timing, etc. Just a thought. Thought I would share that with you, however, I feel silly doing so, because I’m pretty sure you already know that. 🤓 Love the new channel too. Take care! 👍🙋🏻‍♀️😊

Dig your car! Vacuum leaks cause rough idle. I suspect the IAC - idle air control valve found in computer controlled engines. In my experience the plunger carbons up and can be cleaned!
My family and I enjoy your wholesome content.
Been with you since before Michigan!

get a can of carb cleaner and spray it on your vacuum lines while its running and the RPM will change and you will find the leaks. vacuum tube can even be hard to find today because its not used .. everything is run by electric today.. just make sure you get tube that says rated for gasoline/ gasoline vapors.. vs something like windshield washer tube.

Most likely the car was painted in Japan after a minor accident or simply to restore damaged, faded paint. In Japan, such work is almost always performed at a very high level of quality, especially for a car of this class.

$4,099..90,didn’t Eevee find a dime?😂 dk the exchange on the Japanese coins.

Cars from that era (70s and early 80s) would idle high when started cold, but you can kick it off of high idle by quickly depressing and releasing the gas pedal. Not all the way to the floor, but quickly tromp on the gas pedal then release, and it should kick off of high idle, and you will also not get clunk, and leaping of the car when you put it into gear. You're definitely on high idle if you're getting the clunk and the car pulling forward. I'm interested if quickly depressing the pedal kicks it off of high idle for you. Let me know.

@@livingdiyfferent Sure... by all means, vacuum leaks for sure need to be fixed too. Pretty cool car too.. I was totally grown up and driving cars in 1987, and have never seen this cool car. Very much like a Lincoln Continental was back in the day. Cool car.

The engine may have less miles on it. Japan has required the engine be replaced at 50k miles(not kilometers) for many many years. If indeed it has only been in the US for a short time, it should have already had that engine replaced about half way through those miles. I purchased a Honda Civic engine from Japan to replace one in my car in the early '90s. It was a job to have all the Japanese parts removed and the ones from my engine put on but it was a great engine. I hope you find all the parts you want.
