I hate horse racing. I feel like it hurts horses and riders. I love all jockeys who don't do it for the money. But I do not know how I feel baout harness racing. (I am not tryign to offend anyone just saying how I feel about it)
You're opinion is absolutely valid. But before hating on a very, very old industry you must really understand behind the scenes, if you don't get that no one is going to be able to change your mind because you are only judging with your eyes and rumors. (I don't personally know your history with the racing industry). All jockeys do it for the money (if they don't have a job on the side, if they do, then its different) exercise riders, they might do it for free. You may do with my opinion as you please.
The chains are quite obvious yes, but that is used for control or the handler having a lack of control. You can't blame them honestly, I don't know your history about handling Thoroughbreds or stallions but it's quite risky especially for them being animals with high adrenaline levels, the moment they see that track they just want to take off and get going, also they're young. If you don't want to get trampled, run over, kicked, bitten or killed you might want to use a chain for the time being or until the horse gets more training etc. 🙂
