I have many folded space insterts. For Isle of cats: I have the 2 Kickstarter Expansions and Kitten & Beasts in the Folded Space insert. Works well And every tray is filled. Also the lil bags of the Expansion fit with the pieces inside.
I got my first (and so far only) insert for Earth. I really appreciate the design mechanics of the insert both in engineering and how it all works with the game components…. but….. it was badly needed, I didn’t unbox the game/even consider playing until the insert arrived. And while on aesthetic level it’s nice that it is thematic to the game, the collab seems to be directly linked to zero effort being put into the original insert. I play solo from the box and am glueing the insert components only if I have to….. my glue will probably dry out in the bottle when I eventually play this multiplayer and realise I need to take all the inserts out of the box for set up and they come apart….. 😂
My favourite folded space insert is Champions of Midgard with both expansions (retail copy, not KS). It is a DENSE box, but the insert does a fantastic job of organising the contents for easy setup and gameplay. And it eliminated the box lift that I had when I tried to condense it myself without an insert! Top notch work
This is one I would definitely invest in if I hadn't got an extra set of the gametrayz for Reavers of Midgard off a bgg user. They are themed close enough and work well to organize the game for quick set up and use.
Luke, do you think the big box and 2 minute organizer for Isle of Cats will be a massive improvement for set up? I've backed for that with the new expansions with the hope it helps get the game to the table a bit easier. Also, as far as folded space, don't make my mistake and buy the inserts without reading the fine print. Anachrony insert is NOT for the new essential edition box (tons of lid lift and the trays will not all fit) and Underwater Cities is great, BUT... They couldn't fit all the boards inside so you'll either need to live with massive lid lift or use the expansion box for the player boards
Honestly I don't see how it would be that much of a benefit. You can dump everything into that bag and the other cat pieces are barely used. A quick bag for fish tokens if need be. The only thing you're sorting is cards and even then, most of the time you're just shuffling them all together.
I do have the Rajas goodie box 1 & 2 and it is useful for that extra content as well. Tiles and player boxes are the highlight. Agree on the wasted space, and those fiddly end pieces. I think it could have been better, but still happy with it (but I do hate baggies).
excellent vid mate...folded space inserts are the best....light, fair priced, easy to assemble and has enough space for sleeved cards....it was great to see the insert for War of the Ring...Xia insert is also one of my fav insert. btw...really enjoyed your video editing as well..please do keep it up.
@@TheBrokenMeeple maybe not this one but the other vids, I appreciate you adding the shots about how the game looks and is setup while talking about them....
Good vid. I've also got the nemesis all-in on the way, and xia gathering dust on the shelf just because I know all the equipment tokens will be mixed up and take ages to sort. I'll deffo look to get both in the near future! I can recommend the viticulture insert from folded space, which handles the Tuscany expansion in addition. Next up for me is probably the one for above and below because the existing insert is to be quite frank useless!
Oh for those two games , the inserts will solve all your problems - I think I don't have the insert for Viticulture but that's because I got the Collectors Box and also I pimped my copy out a while ago with custom bags and stuff.
Just assembled the Folded Space insert for LOTR: JIME and it looks good. Already have the insert for Civilization: A New Dawn and love it. Can't find the insert for Abyss anywhere, though. Hoping it comes into stock soon.
I don't personally keep the F/S layout sheets in the boxes of the games... but If I did I'd probably just cut out the layout section from the build sheet and stick it to the inside of the box lid or box base.
Hey man with the upcoming release of wow wotlk pandemic board game mix should i buy it or not? I know theres isnt much information to go off on but idk if i should pre order
Totally agree with xia insert. My fav insert by far. Barenpark very underwhelming for me. Wingspan is alright. I just got nemesis and sleeved all my cards. I wasn't to fussed about getting an insert until I seen I can clear 2 boxes of my shelf.
I have a number of these inserts and they are pretty good especially for the price. Main issue is for games with little free box space as the walls are on the thick side compared to other options... Also as this video discusses some inserts are better than others. Personally I prefer connected trays rather than lots of small individual boxes but mainly there is a reason behind the design. The only one I've found that doesn't work very well is the Viscounts of the West Kingdom as some of the trays are not big enough to hold all the wooden components or require professional level packing schemes to fit them all in. Overall for the price they are a great option and unlike the "wooden" inserts they don't stink of burned wood from the laser cutting. Personally I'd like to see a thinner walled version with a higher density material for games that could benefit from the extra room in the boxes (e.g. Viscounts).
Glad I held off getting the Viscounts insert. My plan was to wait for the eventual expansion that Garphill will no doubt release. Then FS will release a V2 update to the insert that holds the expansion too :)... Hopefully
@@JonoNZBoardGamer Yeah it's a considered decision when you think games will get an expansion for games with plenty of free box space. Any V2 version that incorporates any expansion will mean the lid wont fully close as the base game and insert has no spacers and is completely full... so full in fact that some of the tiles don't actually get a box and stack in a gap between boxes. Not the fault of the insert other than wall thickness but Sleeved cards are not an option due to lack of free space. @The Broken Meeple I could not fit all the player colour tokens into their single individual boxes and had to use free room in lower card trays. Still the game really benefits from this insert overall and worth getting.
Ugh, almost 2 minutes seeing your ugly mug 😉, lol. Great video, thanks for the indepth views them all. I'm especially excited for the Abyss one, recently got the 2 expansions thanks to your beyond the base game videos.
@@TheBrokenMeeple no not yet, but will try leviathan for sure on next play. I did have the folded space insert on pre order already before this video, so glad to see it's worth having. Also got one for Quacks

Kitten and Breasts.............. LOL!
@@TheBrokenMeeple haha I love the autocorrect of my phone 😂
sometimes making the inserts are almost as fun as playing the games.... and lets not forget how light they are compared to wooden inserts
. . . . . . . . . hmmmm not sure I'd call making them fun! :P Very time consuming! I want them to self-assemble!

That makes sense, still not even played those expansions.

I just bought two folded space inserts for Clank! And Gloomhaven Jaws of the lion. Love them! Thanks for these reviews!!!
Glad you like them!
I love folded space inserts because they are so light. The Caverna one is my favourite.
Interesting, Xia and Spirit Island have been pretty ones to date.

I get Barenpark + Expansion into the main box without lift. Would be nice to have an insert to help easier setup, though.
That's the thing, it's possible yes, but at the expense of setup.

It's super cheap though so I can't hate on it too much.

It's saved my bacon on some games! :P
Great to see the Abyss insert. I feel there is still a few spaces that they could've designed a bit better to utilize more of the wasted space.
True but then I think it's had all the content it ever will so as long as it fits!
I've got Folded Space inserts for Empires of the North and Roll Player, I'm gonna definitely need to get that Xia one.
Same on both!
