Way to give it up for Bell, a vastly underrated and under-heard talent! Not the biggest fan of Elton til these songs emerged. It's when I realized it was Elton's melodies that missed their mark with me!
But, the Bell sessions are astounding, and having virtually nothing to do with Elton, except of course, that he's singing. He's buoyed up by superb songwriting, production, conducting, and arranging by Bell and crew!

At first I got lost in the music, then the moves of black and white checked shirt guy... if only all of life could be that uninhibited and joyous! Thanks man, 40ish years later this has made my day 🙂🙏

F***, I love Elton in his all his forms. Especially, when he’s humble and awkward.
Thank you Elton, for letting a gay boy from Arkansas believe that life as myself is possible.

Wow, brought back memories. I loved the energy, and the perfect mix of musicians/artists. What I don't see mentioned is the drummer...And in the video everybody had some part of their body moving and it all hit exactly on the drumbeat. The drummer is Charles Collins who was also with many groups and so many tunes; TSOP, Salsoul Orchestra, MFSB, Low Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass/Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Ojays, Gable & Huff, Native New Yorker to name a few. You could tell it was him on the drums with his unique style too. When you here the first 4 beats of "You'll Never Find" by Lou Rawls its Charles on his drums which names the tune, gives it life and drives the bus. ...This video shows him pumping his drum beats into the souls of all those in the room. I have never been a drummer but I have been an old bass hacker and that's why i seem to focus on what drives the tune and pumps the room. So maybe i know too much about him but he's a legend along with many of the others in this room.

Not sure what was going on at this "gathering" but I feel a little tension.
What is going on? Everyone's face at the beginning looked nervous.
The guy standing next to Elton did not shake his hand at the end.
What is the backstory? I will check back in a year for an answer.
EJ need a dance lesson. He is doing the white boy dance.

Producer Thom Bell and Elton John were fighting a lot.
      The only recorded six songs,
and abandoned the rest of the sessions.
This was recorded in 1977 and it was released in 1979.
Out of the six songs, two were released as singles in 1979 which were
“Are You Ready For Love?” and
      “Mama Can’t Buy You Love”.
The Spinners, the hit vocal group that Thom Bell produced, sang background on those songs.

Thanks for this upload. I am a supreme fan of Thom Bell and his sound. good to actualy see him, his brother , Tony Bell on the left, nephew and linda Creed in the back seated. All looking so good 30 plus years ago. I believe, but not sure, but it looks like Larry Washington ( congas, MFSB) up front on the left dancing.

Not quite true. Elton was not pleased with the sessions, for whatever reason, so only a few songs were released (4), one of which was MAMA CAN'T BUY YOU LOVE which was a hit at the time.
ARE YOU READY came out years later. I personally think it's a more truthful THOM BELL/PHILLY song. I believe it eventually went to number one.
Elton was pretty cold at this time. He and Bernie had split and he even produced music with Pete Belotte which went nowhere. Disco was struggling, as well as Philly Soul. All the wrong things at the end of their trends. This was GOOD MUSIC WITHOUT A PLACE TO GO.
By refusing to release it, Elton inadvertantly made his fans want it more. I like as much as Philadelphia Freedom (in a more emotional way, but I love PF).
I don't know it not releasing it counts as a flop when it wasn't actually on the market with a hard core press.
