The Great Thom Bell Master Arranger, Conductor Writer Producer Musician, an architect of TSOP
And singer
Way to give it up for Bell, a vastly underrated and under-heard talent! Not the biggest fan of Elton til these songs emerged. It's when I realized it was Elton's melodies that missed their mark with me!
But, the Bell sessions are astounding, and having virtually nothing to do with Elton, except of course, that he's singing. He's buoyed up by superb songwriting, production, conducting, and arranging by Bell and crew!
At first I got lost in the music, then the moves of black and white checked shirt guy... if only all of life could be that uninhibited and joyous! Thanks man, 40ish years later this has made my day 🙂🙏
F***, I love Elton in his all his forms. Especially, when he’s humble and awkward.
Thank you Elton, for letting a gay boy from Arkansas believe that life as myself is possible.
What a great tune, lighting up the room! Thank you Thom for this (as well, of course, everyone else involved), and so, so much more .. the end of an era .. Rest In Peace our friend .. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 …
something funky in that bubblegum
When the essence of the song connects all you can do is smile and dance
how could you not like this amazing
Wonderful song Elton John
love love love this!!elton coked up with his brothers and gettin da groove on WICKED
They really did start getting wild what a great time we all need these times!
Crying🥲 such a beautiful song…
Interesting to see Bernie at the sessions. This is when he and Elton had taken a break from writing together.
Elton kills it ...bad tune...cant go wrong with Philly Int
Wow, brought back memories. I loved the energy, and the perfect mix of musicians/artists. What I don't see mentioned is the drummer...And in the video everybody had some part of their body moving and it all hit exactly on the drumbeat. The drummer is Charles Collins who was also with many groups and so many tunes; TSOP, Salsoul Orchestra, MFSB, Low Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass/Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Ojays, Gable & Huff, Native New Yorker to name a few. You could tell it was him on the drums with his unique style too. When you here the first 4 beats of "You'll Never Find" by Lou Rawls its Charles on his drums which names the tune, gives it life and drives the bus. ...This video shows him pumping his drum beats into the souls of all those in the room. I have never been a drummer but I have been an old bass hacker and that's why i seem to focus on what drives the tune and pumps the room. So maybe i know too much about him but he's a legend along with many of the others in this room.
Charles Collins is actually from Chicago
Not too much! Thank you so much for the insight! So much great music! To be honest, so sad that Thom has just left us (Rest In Peace) .. but what an amazing legacy, including this! 👌 .. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 …
While living my twenties
.the promise of a heart openess, after all not so fulfilled...but that's life❤😢
The guy in the black jacket with the stripe down the sleeve is John Reid, Elton's manager at the time.
Thom Bell ,Nephew LeRoy Bell is currently on the FOX's X FACTOR show. Great to see that we can go back in time to see those who making there mark as we speak. So cool,.
Lord if I could only be in that studio
Me too that seemed so fun
Yes Andy1Emcee, that is Bernie at the beginning. They also catch him toward the end. He appears to be just barely tolerating the whole affair. :)
+Jeff Van Devender Nice to see them start smiling.......made my day !
In other videos of this day hes more peppy
Wonderful.
Sensational
Wow. This video is truly amazing, thanks for posting!!
Look at all the people dancing to the same rhythm in that room.
"And then the E kicked in..We danced all night...The DJ was in a hole somewhere...We just danced ,snorted and ....Partied on... Until Elton had a strop🤔
The first guy shown is that Bernie Taupin?
géniale chanson!

A bit of a slow burner? Recorded by Elton in 1977 and released in 1979, reaching number one in the UK singles charts in 2003.

but he did good
"Elton was lucky to get a gig then" LMAO! Get real!
Lucky to get a gig??,
It was 77. Captain fantastic shipped double platinum in 76, 1 year earlier. He was the biggest music star on the planet!
Lucky to get a gig?
LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO
Bernie is there and he didnt write the song!
GET DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...
Not sure what was going on at this "gathering" but I feel a little tension.
What is going on? Everyone's face at the beginning looked nervous.
The guy standing next to Elton did not shake his hand at the end.
What is the backstory? I will check back in a year for an answer.
EJ need a dance lesson. He is doing the white boy dance.
Producer Thom Bell and Elton John were fighting a lot.
The only recorded six songs,
and abandoned the rest of the sessions.
This was recorded in 1977 and it was released in 1979.
Out of the six songs, two were released as singles in 1979 which were
“Are You Ready For Love?” and
“Mama Can’t Buy You Love”.
The Spinners, the hit vocal group that Thom Bell produced, sang background on those songs.
Yes because he's not black, so what?
Funny how Charly affects everyone.
the original is by the detroit spinners or just the spinners
who's the man with afro with long sideburns on the right?
I don't think it's Bernie, but maybe.
Is that the late Linda Creed?
3:20-3:22
Bernie is sexy with his beard
I'm confused. I thought Fatboy slim remixed this from scratch?
Ashley Beedle
It was recordes in 1977, remixed and edited for release in 79 on an EP and one or two singles. Then forgotten about until 2003.

I LOVE ELTON JOHN, BUT THIS SONG DIDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. SORRY ELTON DAHLING.
Thanks for this upload. I am a supreme fan of Thom Bell and his sound. good to actualy see him, his brother , Tony Bell on the left, nephew and linda Creed in the back seated. All looking so good 30 plus years ago. I believe, but not sure, but it looks like Larry Washington ( congas, MFSB) up front on the left dancing.
Some good nostalgia, Thank you again
From l to r: Tony Bell - guitarist/arranger and younger brother of Thom Bell; L. Randolph Bell Sr. (Thom Bell's father); seated two engineers Don Murray and Buzz Richmond at Kaye-Smith studio; LeRoy Bell, Bobby Eli & Casey James;
Thom Bell; Eddie Martinez-Bellboy Music (behind Thom Bell); Elton John Larry Washington (seated) -percussionist; Charles Collins (drummer); ; Bo Ryan (Bellboy Music) in back; seated behind Elton NOT Linda Creed, but JoDee Omer (Bellboy Music); and a host of Elton's friends......
perpetualgold Bob Babbitt in the back row, middle. Babbitt was former Motown Funk Bro who played on many Thom Bell productions after he left Motown and moved east. Amazing musician who became a legend.
As great as it is seeing all these legendary people in a studio, it is one shit song
One of those friends being former manager John Reid. Seated right.
Thank you very much. Clearly you know who the players are!! That is appreciated!
Wow thanks for the info. Was this filmed in Philly?
When this came out in the record stores it was a total flop. Everyone hated it .
TELEVISIONARCHIVES
Not quite true. Elton was not pleased with the sessions, for whatever reason, so only a few songs were released (4), one of which was MAMA CAN'T BUY YOU LOVE which was a hit at the time.
ARE YOU READY came out years later. I personally think it's a more truthful THOM BELL/PHILLY song. I believe it eventually went to number one.
Elton was pretty cold at this time. He and Bernie had split and he even produced music with Pete Belotte which went nowhere. Disco was struggling, as well as Philly Soul. All the wrong things at the end of their trends. This was GOOD MUSIC WITHOUT A PLACE TO GO.
By refusing to release it, Elton inadvertantly made his fans want it more. I like as much as Philadelphia Freedom (in a more emotional way, but I love PF).
I don't know it not releasing it counts as a flop when it wasn't actually on the market with a hard core press.
@@hollidayevery Didn't get released until 1989.
elton kind of looks like a muppet
thanx for the party! Good stuff! This smart Englishman grooves!
My Elton is very pale
Fascinating clip
