Hey all! Thanks as always for all the great comments. I'll try to get through some of them and reply where I can. I'm supposed to be off work today. But hey, while I'm here, something you'll want to know: The 75-inch U8H does not -- repeat, does NOT -- use an IPS panel as some have suspected. It uses a VA panel which, technically, has slightly better specs than the 55- and 65-inch variants. Thanks for watching and I'll see y'all on the next one!

Do you mind saying whats your source for this? The Hisense rep on Best Buy comments specifically said 75U8H is IPS FWIW. Maybe he got it confused with last years models. Could it be a scenario of mixed panels, both IPS and VA anything? I think last year the 75u8G started shipping VA and then switched to IPS later. Just seeking more claritry

Just bought the 65 inch (mostly for gaming) on sale at Best Buy for $899 and it has been one of the best investments I’ve made in tech in some time. I was coming from a 6-7 year old 55 inch LG that had started to show signs of wear and right out of the box this thing made me in awe. Would’ve been happy even if I paid full price! Highly recommend (ps5) great review!

You can see the terrible problems with Macroblocking and Posterization in the Gran Turismo PS5 demo at Best Buy. Just look how the Samsung and Sony TV sets have demos that show how the color gradually changes color, while the U8H looks like it is divided into completely different sections with different colors - almost intentionally. But, that is NOT the "intent." Most people who don't realize the way it is "supposed" to look don't realize it isn't supposed to be like that. But, the U8H is NOT supposed to be like that. The firmware updates keep coming for the U8H, but the U8H still has not fixed those problems. And Hisense never promised to fix the problems with Posterization, Stuttering, and Macroblocking.

@@rodbutler4054 I agree. That is why it would be nice if Sony stopped using cheap parts in their products that are sold for high prices. I had an expensive Sony ES A/V Receiver break after just five years - just a short time after the warranty ended. Sony wouldn't honor it. I was told, "Sorry, the motherboard burnt out and there is nothing we will do."
The Sony TV I had was similar. It was just four years old and broke. Now they don't even make 3D TV sets anymore, so it is frustrating. Thankfully, I had insurance on that one. But, I wouldn't buy insurance from Best Buy again - because the Best Buy insurance for TV sets is ABSURD on their TV sets.

I bought one of their 4k TVs 2 1/2 years ago but I knew I was missing out on image quality and black levels for sure and wanted to experience that without the hassle of oled. I got the 65 U8H for my ps5 and I still can’t believe the picture quality. I’m in awe every time I watch 4k anything on this bad boy. And the gaming features was the cherry on top. about 65 inch. Im leaning towards a LG OLED 4KTV 65 inch going for 1500 bucks which is a good bargain. If I buy this one for 900 bucks will
I regret it or is it a dumb choice ? It is available at 900 now for 65 inch but I feel getting a LCD LED over a OLED is a downgrade. The OLED wins
in perfect Blacks, colors, motion, response times. The Hisense only wins with a bit brighter pic. However the UH8 is quoted as close to OLED

Your review is right on target! I bought the 55-inch model during the first week of Sept 2022 ($649) and almost sent it back the same day because the picture quality was just so terrible out of the box. However, after two system/firmware updates it was so much better. But I was still not impressed with the picture quality until I discovered that the HDMI input default setting was 1080p vs 4K (what's up Hisense shouldn't 4K be the default on a 4K TV? At least mention it in the setup guide!). Once I switched the HDMI Input setting to "enhanced" I finally got an outstanding picture from the U8H that I was expecting! Super bright and outstanding 4K HDR input picture quality; however, very poor handling (i.e., processing) of standard resolution content, it just can't upscale very well. So, super at handling recent 4K HDR content, sucks at upscaling old 480p content. The TV sound is outstanding, it's the first TV I've owned that I could get by without a soundbar. The ATSC 3.0 turner is almost useless at this point, there's a big delay with audio and the OTA turner just can't bring in many channels. My Sony X80J can tune in almost twice the number of OTA channels. The X80J does a fantastic job at upscaling my 480p content (e.g., M.A.S.H., As Time Goes By, Perry Mason, etc.). The X80J also has much better wide-angle viewing. Hoping for U8H improvements in the near future via more firmware updates.

Hisense is a great value product but unfortunately their prices are creeping up that they'll stop being that value proposition, they need to improve in many areas if they want to keeping the new prices. the only eye strain you will get is tired eyes and maybe dry eyes.
Blue light and other tv lights at night dont damage your eyes (saying that because you mentioned 20/20 vision). Blue light in dark rooms is linked a little to earlier/accelerated far-sightedness at an old age.
The only thing that really is straining and damaging our eyes (leading to short-sightedness) is looking at things at short distances too much (reading books, looking at phones, computer screens) and not counter-attacking it enough by relaxing your eyes by looking into the far enough or being exposed to daylight enough.

just like if d car in front of us High beam, if we were in d range, our iris will auto Shrink. Iris are made of muscle that pull n release. When d lights are dim, our iris try to pull n let more lights come in. Just light when we look at directly at Flashlight, u cant see. but if there is image u need to see in the same direction, part of eye will HAVE TO ----OPEN iris UP ---when the IRIS is trying to shrink n make the hole smaller----AT SAME TIME. Its the constant tension trying to TUG O WAR. that cause the IRIS MUSCLE extreme stress. It has NOTHING to do with blue or warm light but d Brightness that u are watching d tv . it has Everything to do watching tv in a Pitch black room like trying to facing a flashlight when trying to focus n see d pic(it requires eyes open let MORE light in) when trying to restrict d lights coming in. over time the Iris will be lose its elasticity, unable to properly shrink any more. so d hole is too big. it either let too much light coming in, damage its retina. Or yr eye ball shape will over compensate into Oval to focus counter react to d Iris losing its elasticity .
I am assuming u do NOT have Hisense U8H. so i understand why u don see how Bright it is. This panel is 4x TIME as bright as 2020 Flagship Sony H900X, LG. Its prob like 5-10X brighter. UNLESS u have d TV ppl wont see why this guy says So Bright is worrysome. like LG C1 is 750 peak, LG CX is 700 Peak. this TV is 2100 peak brightness. without having d light dimed at night n having warm soft room light, he WILL have watching a Flash light in d dark experience, n strain . Always great work. I would like to request that Digital Trends do a video on home calibration. I know professionally trained is better but sometimes they are hard to find in your area (my parents live 100 miles from a midsize city that might have a vendor) or in my case just didn't seam like a reputable person when I talked to them on the phone. So what can a home user get for gear to help make those final tweaks in the Nit Nerds area without breaking the bank on expensive test gear. Perhaps a low, mid and high end options set so people can choose what they want to spend. I keep thinking about buying some gear and there are so many options at a large range of price points I don't know what would be best bang for the buck. Of course there are caveats to you can really screw up your TV, I know, but i want to make things a little bit better with tools than just by eye.

I bought this TV last week. Honestly it was so bright that I use the light sensor to keep it from burning my retinas out. I knew the price on this was going to be good, at some point, but can not believe what you can buy this for already, today. Gaming, 1080P, 4K all look SO good. I turned off motion compensation because Soap Opera affect bugs me and have had no issue. The sound is fantastic, but I put it in Speech mode because I found the bass a bit over powering the dialog in my ears. My biggest criticism is the documentation. There are so many settings that it could easily overwhelm someone that just wants to turn it on and enjoy. It takes quite a bit of tinkering as you move around different types of content/sources with little understanding what the settings do. All trial and error. I'm not sure that this is a Hisense only problem these days though. I would definitely add this to a short list for anyone looking at a TV right now, no matter your budget.

I think most people have their backlight set to high. I have a Hisense U6G that had noticeable dirty screen effect in panning shots with light backgrounds. By turning down the backlight to about 12% ( suggested by Rtings ) and adjusting the contrast to about 88% I was able to remove the DSE for intensive purposes.

Thoughts and settings on the Hisense 75U8H.
I want to thank the reviewer for their time and effort in creating the reviews for this model series.
So I’ve been living with my Hisense 75U8H for about a month now, and I wanted to share my thoughts and settings for those that may find it useful in some way.
I’m not a gamer so there won’t be anything related to that. I’m fortunate to have a light controlled environment and these settings are mainly based on that, with most viewing done at night and with the ambient light kit also recommended by another reviewer.
The quality is everything that has been said about this model series, including the black levels truly approaching oled territory, with virtually no noticeable blooming. I was concerned at first with the flesh tones, as no matter the source or material, it exhibited an awful pinkish/magenta-ish/sunburned hue, and the greens seemed to narrow themselves down to one dark green color for everything. Played with every setting to no avail. So I reset back to ground zero and pulled out my ancient AVSHD disc and carefully proceeded. So after putting a bunch of hours on the set( yes, they do break-in), and tweaking everything for the different sources and inputs, the color finally started to settle in. The flesh tones are now 90 to 95 percent accurate, yellows and golds and browns look like they’re supposed to without any tint leaning in one direction or another, and the greens now have the variation you would expect to see in a mixed scene of trees and grass, etc.
The following are the settings based on a wide variety of material on all the sources, and in setting the backlight, contrast and local dimming so it doesn’t melt my retinas, but still has a good level of ”kick” and dynamic range. Of particular note is my go-to reference disc of The Fifth Element (the good pressing), because it has such a wide variety of colors and levels of saturation, which makes it challenging to reproduce accurately. Filmmaker Mode was the starting point where applicable for SDR. HDR is kind of all over the place in terms of settings, for me at least. When HDR is flagged, the three default choices that you’re given work for some things but not all, so I’ve had to tweak things based on the particular content being viewed. Again, personal taste and the room it’s being viewed in.
Also, since the Dolby Vision issue has not been fixed at this point, I used the “Custom” mode to tweak that in.
The bottom line is, I feel these are all good starting points before a “real” calibration, but each person has their own taste and preferences, so of course, feel free to tweak-away!
    Cheers!

I see a lot of people, not only with this make of television but many, complaining about judder and what motion smoothing settings to use. The answer is none..no smoothing, no noise correction ..nothing. it's the apps, Blu-ray players ect that you are using. You need to turn on auto refresh rate or refresh rate switching. That way your tv plays the videos original frame rate instead of trying to play a 24fps film at 60fps ect. That is all. Plex, youtube, games, DVD players, Blu-ray players ect...turn on auto refresh rate or refresh rate switching. Then turn off all the unneeded processing in your tv's advanced picture settings. One more thing, with smart tv's, force close apps you are not using and clear cache, not data..just cache. The more apps that are open, the more processing and ram you are using. Apps usually do not actually close when you exit out. I own the u7h, it runs beautifully. No judder, no stutter, no blur..just clean and crisp picture.

Basically the TV's processor can't handle a 4K/120Hz signal from an external device via HDMI without compromising the image quality and reducing the load. Therefore each pixel in a 3840 x 2160 signal at 120Hz will not be represented on the display. To reduce the strain on the processor and display an image on the TV at 4K/120Hz the vertical resolution pixel count is cut in half.
Some people don't consider this a big deal, as your eyes may not see the reduced quality of the image from several feet away. What people fail to realize is, if you set your external device (an Xbox Series X, for example) to output 4K/120Hz, the TV will compromise the image quality in all resolutions. (Playing a 1080p game in that mode will look worse than the same game at 60Hz.)
This is a bad trend in the TV industry right now, and when a manufacturer says their TV can do 4k/120Hz, it simply means it can ACCEPT such a signal from an external device, but you may not get true pixel to pixel representation. In other words "Fake 4K/120Hz." When shopping for a gaming TV, make sure it will display a full 4K image at 120Hz. Unless you don't think it's a big deal. Some people don't care - they just want the 120Hz reaction time

Seems like an insanely important issue to go unmentioned in this review. So every time you play a game that runs at 60fps or below (nearly all of them), you have to manually go into the Series X’s output settings and switch it to 60hz if you don’t want the resolution to be compromised? I’ve never had a TV with variable refresh rate capabilities… does enabling that with the Series X also mean having to set it to the resolution-compromised 120hz output?

Hey everyone! An important update: I have now triple-confirmed with Hisense that all sizes of the U8H, including the 75-inch model, use a VA panel. On the same call, I also learned that all sizes of the U7H will also use VA panels. Hisense has stepped away from IPS on these two series based on customer feedback -- this according to Hisense engineers and its product marketing team. Here is a quote from Hisense: "We collected the feedback from the end user, so in this year, we have changed all panels of the U7H and U8H series to VA panel. " Furthermore, the issue with vertical resolution getting cut in half for some gaming scenarios is a bug that will be fixed in the next OTA update. So, some early adopters may be experiencing this now, but it will go away soon.

      @tac6044 Рік тому

Don't! The Hisense U8H has many problems that caused me to return the product. I bought the U8H because of reviews saying it is "Bright" and the Mini-LED VA panel has "Blacks" that are very dark. Those things were true; however, the U8H suffers from many other problems - and has all along. These problems have never been solved, and never will be. Some of them cannot be solved - such as the inferior technology used for the panel that is based on "8-Bit plus FRC" technology rather than the "True 10-Bit" technology used by Samsung, LG, and Sony. This "Plus FRC" technology used by Hisense and TCL creates a "Rainbow Effect" that some people (including me) see, and it is very disturbing. It reminds me very much of the days of DLP TV sets where there was a similar type of "Rainbow Effect" that some people (including me) could see.
In the early reviews of the U8H on reliable places such as RTings, it said the U8H had glitches and problems with things such as Dolby Vision and Netflix, and also the gaming suffering from a problem where the vertical resolution was cut in half when gaming at 120hz. RTings said Hisense was aware of those problems and planned to eventually fix them with firmware updates. Most of those particular problems were solved, although other problems were sometimes created. For example, the one firmware update created another glitch in one of the HDMI inputs.
People wondered from the start if Hisense was going to attempt to fix some of the other glitches that reviews talked about. Hisense never promised to fix those particular glitches the way they did the glitches they claimed they were aware of dealing with Dolby Vision and Netflix.
For example, the RTings review points out that the U8H has TERRIBLE problems with "Stuttering" while watching Blu-ray movies running at 24 frames per second. I can tell you this is definitely 100% true. No form of firmware update has fixed this yet as of January 2023, so it is obvious no form of firmware update ever will fix this problem.
You can easily see an example of this "Stuttering" problem if you go to a local store where all the TV sets are on display. I eventually saw the Hisense U8H at Best Buy sitting next to the Sony X90K and the X95K, and the Samsung Q90B, and the TCL Class 6, and several TV sets from LG. Each of them were playing the same stream of movies. The Samsung and Sony TV sets did not display "Stuttering," but the Hisense U8H did have very noticeable "Stuttering." The LG TV sets actually had the worst "Stuttering" of all.
This was particularly noticeable in the new Doctor Strange movie that was on display. The Sony TV sets had virtually no noticeable "Stuttering." But the Hisense U8H showed "Stuttering" in multiple spots - even in scenes as minor as showing Doctor Strange simply rotating his head.
The other problem the RTings review talked about was "Shimmering." This was obvious on the U8H, but not on the other TV sets - exactly as the RTings and Digital Trends reviews said.
One of the other problems with the U8H that people wondered about all along was if the weakness in "Processing" would ever be fixed with firmware updates. Unfortunately, these problems have never been corrected, and obviously never will. For example, the "Digital Noise" option can be selected, but it never does anything visible to eliminate digital noise.
The U8H also suffers from problems with "Posterization" and "Macroblocking" from the various Gradients. These problems are caused by the TERRIBLY INFERIOR technology that Hisense uses in the UH8 and TCL uses in the Class 6 for their panels, which is called "8-Bit plus FRC" rather than using "True 10-Bit" technology for the panel. The Hisense U8H and TCL Class 6 TV sets only have access to a small fraction of the colors available in "True 10-Bit" TV panels. But what is worse is the U8H has such weak "Processing" power that the "8-Bit plus FRC" panel is not capable of processing correctly and ends up with "Gradient" errors and "Posterization" errors and "Macroblocking" errors.
A good example of what I'm referring to was seen at Best Buy when all those TV sets were next to each other and Gran Turismo was shown on display on all the TV sets. A person who had never seen that game and didn't know what the game was "supposed" to look like would never think anything was wrong. But when you see the game next to the other TV sets, you realize how the game is "supposed" to look and you realize why the U8H from Hisense has "Gradient" problems with Posterization. The Samsung Q90B and Sony X90K and X95K show colors in Gran Turismo that look "smooth" and "gradually" go from a dark color to a light color so that it looks like it is a 100% perfect transition from "dark" to "light." But with the Hisense U8H, you don't see a "smooth" type of "gradual transition." Instead, with the U8H, you see the colors shift from a white, to suddenly being a darker white, to suddenly being a grey, to suddenly being a dark grey, to suddenly being a light black, to suddenly being a black. It is not "smooth" and not "gradual" at all with the transition. The reason for this is because of the "8-Bit plus FRC" panel that is used, which is inferior technology.
The "Viewing Angles" of the U8H are also TERRIBLE. As the RTings and Digital Trends reviews say, the moment you start to get off center so that you are not looking directly at the TV, you start to see the shades and tints of the colors change in ways that are not accurate. In fairness, this also happens with the Sony X90K and even the far more expensive Sony X95K. This did not happen as much with the Samsung Q90B, though. But, it was so bad that I decided I would rather have an IPS panel with Mini-LED to improve the "Blacks" rather than having a VA panel with such terrible viewing angles. The LG Class 83 sold at Best Buy (which is just a renamed version of the 2021 Class 90) actually does not do a particularly good job with the viewing angles considering it is an IPS. But, the LG Class 85 2022 model does do a good job with having high-quality blacks and excellent viewing angles due to the fact that it is an IPS panel and has Mini-LED for lighting.
My hopes were very high for the Hisense U8H. I have talked with other people who bought the U8H and returned it. Everyone has said, "I would have gladly paid a couple hundred more dollars if Hisense would have just used a 'True 10-Bit' panel, used some technology to improve the viewing angles of the VA panel, and used some technology to improve the "Processing" so it did not experience problems with 'Stuttering' and 'Shimmering.'"
I hope Hisense can fix those problems for 2023. The prices for those Sony, Samsung, and LG TV sets are out of my range, so I didn't buy anything for 2022. I guess I will just have to wait until 2023 to see what is available and hope the prices aren't too high for me. This will be my third year without a decent-sized TV set, because my 70" Sony broke two years ago. I want to wait to get a good one, because I hope it lasts a long time. Best Buy charges WAYYYY TOO MUCH for their insurance, so I won't buy from Best Buy. I want a TV of at least 70", but I'm not willing to pay over $1,500. These TV sets simply don't last as long as they should anymore. That 70" Sony one lasted only four years. It's a good thing I had insurance on it.
The reviews were correct that the TV gets "Very Bright" and has "Blacks" that are "Very Black." But there is a HUGE PROBLEM. If you are watching a Blu-ray at 24 frames per second, it DOES NOT MATTER HOW BRIGHT OR BLACK something is, BECAUSE IT WILL be "STUTTERING"!!!
Hisense needs to understand that you cannot build a skyscraper with 100 floors without building a solid foundation first! Hisense needs to make sure their #1 priority is to build a TV set that DOES NOT have a problem with "Stuttering."
And Hisense needs to make sure their 2023 TV sets forget about this inferior "8-Bit plus FRC" technology that causes a rainbow effect seen by some people. Hisense should ONLY be using "True 10-Bit" technology in their TV sets.

Get it lol. I have 2 Hisense Flagship Panels. That actually started d crazy wave 2 yrs ago in 2020. Against all the noise…I bought it…n 3 month, 6 months 12 months still Jaw dropping. I bought it cuz all stores shut. So I couldn’t see it in store. But ratings were critical, d honest ones are very good. Then d extreme ppl VERY critical. Like how Tusla first came out…all the BMW MEcedes loving car ppl were offended’ whats that. Electrical car? Ewrrr!” Hisense is been getting d same treatment. Ppl are scrapping TV looking for something to be mad at lol. Its like if i am UGLY no one cares, since I am NOT ugly kid…d female (especially ASian) will go thru EVERYTHING from my past, to my now, from my background, to anything. To find “something” to make big deal about my LOOKS lol. D despiration to find something to point at Hisense was comical. I actually innitially Believed it. So after I bought it, i was like waiting for ISSUES to POP. (Before that I had MADE IN Japan VERy premium TV). Nothing. I read more reviews to wait for Thoes issues to pop…nothing. Lol. Yeah 8 months later I went to Bestbuy to finally check out SONY LG, etc. (cuz i bough my tv without seeing it in store) . Strangest feeling ever that all the “big deals “ about hisense ,,, that most of TVs in Bestbuy display look crappy. (If they are NOT play PRE structured Demo) let them play 1080p UA-cam or movie etc looking crappy.
Ps d Banding issue, Hisense have each year and always fixed pronto within 3-4 weeks max. Last year was called Tcon update something like that in early Dec. this year was like in mid Dec. lol. I bought 2nd panel….doubled budget last year. I am buying 75” this year heee hee hee.
Get the 2023 Hisense U8K if u wanna save d budget. It’s going to be 1000 local dimming 1500 nit….

Ratings .come test --oh it has jitter on 24pt. That bs is so sentient. UA-cam plays all videos on 30, same as Netflix. U really have to be like 60 yr old that live in the bushes that have to urge to buy DVD to watch blue ray. If u are NOT grandpa…u are gonna be fine. Lol. I dont even film stuff on my iphoe with ……24pt. U cant even find a Laptop play DVD. Lol so like it’s useless feature for most ppl to have. When play 4k youtube, drome…utter smooth. Completely STunns u NO shimmer nothing.
There ppl who are Tech nerds cant get over the fact that Hisense is out doing Sony x95K. Hello I Bought SONY LAPTOP. I was d epic sony kid. N I am using d $350 Sony FM-1000M4 ear buds. So i do like quality stuff. for TV….Sony had never been that great last 12 years. Lol. Just ppl want to believe it.
Yeah go to BESTBUY.come if u want their U8H are like 4.6-4.9 Stars…everyone who bought it did their research.
I have way more say to it cuz I HAVE 2 flagship panels i spent over an hr in store to check d U8H…against Samsung S95B. Lol there is NO banding or shimmering. It’s smooth. The jutter can be changed (in store Bestbuy h*tes Hiense) they always turn Mothion smooth off. Or they set it to “FIRM” to creat the funny look, or they will set color to “Auto” to be like washed out, instead of color set to “Native”(look realistic). Or having TV set to Film Maker Mode(suit to play 24pts) etc. to play UA-cam video(30pts) ,,to produce unnecessary processing like :”see see see looks aweful”.
--Its on Redit that BESTBUY nation wide is trying to mess with Hisense settings on display, or just dont even turn it on, or tell us about banding etc to spook u. --my husband found it, n was exposed by Bestbuy ex employee , saying that they were Trained to say that. Lol.
Sony x95K native contrast 1700:1 Hisense U8H Native Contrast 5000:1. Cant even compare. U8H look 3D when u play youtube 4k videos or Netflix 4K videos. If u are NOT grandpa or living in d bushes. No need to panic, its a TV….some OCD ppl will have Something to find. Bestbuy USA site reviews are telling . Human brain are Biased. JUst like if u wanted to try a restaurant since bunch of ppl are suggesting its amazing. Yr best friend” warn u, nooooo its too salty”. Upon trying,,,u are going to SEEK the SALTY taste. Its actually from revolution. I am getting 2023 U8K lol…i have gotten 2 panels. Me n my family already decided lol. OUR 2020 H9G(exact same gut as U7H) still look so much better than those Sony X90K or X85K, QN85B..etc. ITS UNREAL!!!. I had an LG LEDTV that recently broke (my fault). The one thing I did love about that TV, even though it was a more budget TV, was that the film smoothness mode, where it would eliminate the jitters from 24fps movies when it came to motion, such as panning across a cityscape. I had to hookup a temporary TV that doesn't have this, and I realized how much I missed this. I get headaches watching the screen jitter from movement because of the mismatch between 60hz refresh and 24fps motion. I might have been sold on the Hisense if they had an equivalent feature, but the fact that it doesn't, coupled with the other problems, ended up making it a deal breaker. If you've experienced proper jitter correction, you can't live without it.

They should allow people to turn on the light sensor but adjust the image for a given brightness level. It's always this with TVs. The light sensor is a great idea on paper, but the tuning isn't quite what you want, so you end up having to adjust the brightness all the time anyway.

But I likely won't buy another Hisense again until they can fix the motion. It's terrible!! Even with motion processing turned off it still does weird movement every once in a while. So disappointing they can't figure that out. But once they do there won't be much reason to buy a LED TV from any other brand.

I have a U8G and would love to get a U8H to try that mini-LED tech, and take advantage of the now 2 year warranty. Especially since Hisense has been putting in work to keep updates rolling out to address issues and perfect their flagship lines for at least a year and a half after release. Unfortunately, I ended up getting a 55" instead of 65" because I got a crazy good deal around last year's Black Friday. The difference in dimming zones between sizes was substantial and I wish I could have had the over 300 zones option. I will say though, I usually keep my backlight even during the brightest part of the day at only 75% instead of the full 100%. It isn't that large of a difference, but these TVs can get BRIGHT bright, and there just aren't all too many situations that call for that, even when talking highlights in HDR. Though I should clarify I use it as a bedroom TV, where brightness control is usually more important. I'm also the kind of person that likes to tweak every picture mode for every different input, and for different times of the day and different types of content, so I'm just not the kind of person that is one to set it and forget it.
As for Hisense software bugs noted in this vid, I would say after my experience with the U8G over the last year that Hisense at least for their flagship line does not just put out a TV and move on, they definitely continue working on correcting issues and addressing complaints. I even had another recent system update within just the last month or so, which is probably a year and a half after the initial release. So combining that experience with them extending their warranty out to 2 years, I wouldn't let those concerns prevent you from making a purchase. I would however suggest carefully putting your individual panel through it's paces, as particularly things like grey screen uniformity can vary from unit to unit so when in doubt, try returning for a different unit to check out another panel before deciding you want to return the TV outright.

A Pro calibrator would definitely take care of getting the TV out of energy saving mode, put it in Filmmaker mode for SDR and HDR, remove motion smoothing from Dolby Vision (if DV Dark is not selected) and make sure changes were applied to apps and all HDMI inputs. Might want to make sure they enable enhanced HDMI where needed. The 2-point white balance adjustment on my review sample needed two points reduced on one color -- that's it. But different panels will need to be measured and adjusted accordingly. Plus, a pro calibrator might want to go in and do a 10 or 20-point adjustment.

It also had black crush and horrible bright spots in medium or low local dimming. They fixed that about a year after I got it. I liked it enough that when I came into some significant money I bought the Sony Z9K right when it came out. It looks even better of course but it should for the money they want for it.
I live in Portland Oregon too and I've had the HD HomeRun 4k tuner for a couple of years now. Portland does not broadcast anything in 4k yet, but the atsc 3.0 channels are more stable and possibly higher bitrate. I have the same dark room/bright room issue on qn90a. I think they need to add smarter light sensor algorithms that are adjustable. If i turn it on it tends to be too dim for me, they should have a +-10 brightness adjustment to their algorithm. It would be so easy to implement… and people that prefer a brighter or dimmer image can adjust. There could be a brightness “user calibration” for these features. I am baffled it doesn’t exist.

It has WAY better contrast ratio than most TV. Sony X95K has native contrast 1:1700, Hisense U8H 1:5000. So I dont understand where u get “that jaw dropping black n bight no contrast” except u might have it turn on in pitch black n Froget to turn down d --Back light” that controls TOTAL panel brightness n PEAK brightness”. Lots ppl do the Front light n like”why so mushy”. Sounds like yr case.

@@casperblackcat1975 ps…i saw yr videos of SHEEP. Those are awesome. I wish i get to pat sheep. Those are hilarious.
My dad used to Import Marino Wool from Australia with highest wool stamps ISO 900 something,,,then send them to manufactures in China to produce the SWEATERS , then they are sold in department stores in USA/CANADA/Japan…etc. about $250 or more USD in the 90s.
thats why i grew up understanding diff TIER of “made in China” cuz I was alwys close connect to those Mega Consuting firms . My dad used to tell me al his colleagues that would export NIKE, SONY ear phones, CD players etc….my dad export Philips light bulps , VERY high quality of clothes. That Reputable brands always do NOT go to manufacture to do their order .they always awlays 100% go to Consulting Firms to order thru the firm . That the Firm has a LOT of CASH n long lasting relationship that they will put the stuff in HIGHEST quality Manufactures to be made.
Vs random USA entpreners “i invent something. I am going to make them made in china for CHEAP, n bring back to sell in USA, AUS, CAN….i will be rich!” In fact they have NO experience to control the production or even pick the supplier.
Thats how they end up with Walmart quality.
Lol we are talking about TV. Lol thats how I understand/address. When u check Hisense. Make sure get their ULED , VA panels. AMAZING. Like if they are sold out. The sales ppl like :”oh this is comparable.” Do NOT believe it. Its diff tier, diff quality, completely diff budget of production, diff client they are trying to Impress. THEIR UHD line, are good. Their ULED IPS is decent. When everyone talkings about their “AMAZING panels” --they are talking about d ULED, VA panels. All of them are stunning even trace back to 2020 models . :):):)
My Dad passed away. I miss him. I remember he used to look around looking for Virgin Marino wool all over the place… in New Zealand/Aus to try to import them. N some area only have small batch, he had to order from 3 diff countries. --in order to do d production IN TIME>
So it is understandable why some HIsense in AUS, UK dont have the same Make as USA, there is Def logistic or supply chain for parts issue.

@@birdtj82 Firstly glad you like my sheep videos that's our main Industry In my part of Australia we tend to farm more sheep for meat & many cerial crops are farmed as well, I've heard that there are firmware issues with Hisense TVs features can often break after updates. Been looking at Sony & they tend to have very good TVs at a decent price going to the Good Guys In Mildura In a few weeks to make my purches.
By the way I'll be making more more sheep videos soon so stay tuned.

Proud owner of a hisense qled 65". 700 euros. No, it doesn't have 120 hz and its hdr isn't the best, but with dolby vision and atmos content on, it has a stunning picture especially in my living room.

There is sepcific setting like -- motion smooth . Something like that , turn it off when watching 24 fps . It will fix it I believe . It’s universal issue for many TVS . Not just Hisense I think

Just saw the u9h in store, picture was good....sound was fairly middling. Honestly the USA never got the the TCL c825 and the speaker setup on that tv....blows this thing out of the park. If TCL brings the c935 to the USA....boy get yourself that tv....you won't regret it.

I'm ready to buy this, but given Hisense have a habit of releasing variations of the same model in different regions for some weird reason I'm hoping someone can help.
I'm UK based, having checked specs it looks identical except for the stand, in the uk we get a rectangular lump in the centre of the unit, the twin legs look much better.
Does anyone know if there's a difference? In particular the hdmi 2.1 connections?
The Hisense U8g I think it was, although advertised as 2.1 in the uk, actually turned out to be 2.0, which resulted in a load of bad online reviews with a lot of returns claimed.
If anybody can answer it'd be much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Buddy, I can answer your questions because I purchased the U8H 55inch micro led TV here in the UK.
In the UK it comes with VIDAA not Google TV and its a very poor interface.
TV is full of foreign apps which you cannot remove and the app store is terrible.
Full of foreign apps again and there's about 6 apps of interest in the app store. It's that bad.
TV comes with WiFi 6 in UK and the stand is in the middle as you point out.
Two of the HDMI ports are 2.1 120 hz. It does the Arc on hdmi 2 and does it well. Two are 60 hz.
It's certainly not worth all the extra cash especially considering the terrible VIDAA.
The freeview plus and the tuners on board are great.
Sound is very powerful. I use my amp though via hdmi arc
If you have any more specific questions let me know.
I could send you screenshots of the amount of foreign non removable apps and the terrible app store content?
Don't go with VIDAA is my advice.

@@jnhcunha So, I moved from a 2007 Samsung ES7000 TV which was top of the range at the time but getting somewhat dated and only 1080p.
At first I didn't understand all this dolby vision and how blacks become blacker and colours more vibrant etc but since its been pointed out I have sought out any content that really shows this off.
      Avatar springs to mind.
The blacks are black but there has appeared 4 tainted patches of a yellow like tint in the 4 corners off the screen which can be seen during certain scenes etc.
When the TV is doing the blackest blacks though it is not noticeable.
My other TV has similar patches.... Is this the bleed you refer too?
The picture is well cool but not mind blowing tbh. It's the VIDAA aspect that makes me regret buying this TV.
My old Samsung TV has a waaaay better Interface and LOADDDZ more apps available and it's 2007 and recieved no updates for years now. Maybe 10 years... Lol.
It's all the non relevant foreign boat ware apps that ruin it plus the limitation of choice.
The selection is shockingly limited. Definetly get hands on with VIDAA before you buy.
The US have got it 100 times better with Google TV
