    I'm going to read all of these Japanese manga in 1 month. At least, that's my goal.

    I just got Flying Witch (ふらいんぐういっち) and have just started reading it. It's a really easy and light read, it's got furigana and it's a really chill read.
    I really enjoyed this and the 3ds video. Good luck with N1, Andy!

      Ooh flying witch has a special place in my heart bcuz it was the first anime that i attempted to watch with JP subs and managed to comprehend 50% per episode. I dont usually enjoy slice of life unless its heavily comedy driven but flying witch managed to keep my attention and now im sad that we will never get a season 2 ;_;

      @@vanessameow1902 I want there to be a season two as well! It's such a nice chill show, I would love to watch 4-5 seasons of it. It was light on the comedy, light on the drama and there's no action, but the cute conversations and interesting tidbits about life were great. If I had money, I would pay for more seasons of this myself. A shame it'll never be.

    Great video! Used bookstores are hands-down the best value for Japanese learners, aren't they? Whenever I (Brian here) go to Japan, I go to the local Book-Off and pick up 20 or 30 books to read over the coming year. Even if you splurge and buy a few that cost 200-300 yen, you're talking $50, maybe $100 -- for both pure enjoyment AND continuing language growth! You just can't beat that!
    You've got your work cut out for you! I'm looking forward to hearing about 死役所 -- the concept sounds great!

    • @ToKiniAndy

    I bought and read the first ten volumes of Black Cat (in English) probably over 6 years ago now. They're one of the few books I have still on display on my shelf. I also really wish it were easier to get DVDs with proper Japanese subtitles
    I can't wait to see how this project goes! It would be cool if when you finished the books you have for a series, you recorded yourself sharing your thoughts while it's still fresh, and then at the end you could combine all the clips and post a review video. Cause I think after all that reading you're not going to remember all the things you might have said about them if you wait to do it all after a month. Or maybe you could, maybe I'm the only one with a mind like a sieve around here 🤭

      Regardless, I plan on doing more "How things are going" updates in the final video that I record DURING the project, instead of just a big overview at the end.
      Thank you for the suggestions! =)

    For anyone here interested in reading untranslated Japanese manga, you can try using which is a licensed digital bookstore that sells manga and novels. They have a free section, where you can read some volumes for free for a limited time (typically the first 1-2 volumes, although in rare cases, they also offer the 3rd volume as well). The list of manga available for free changes every week or so, so there's something new to read every so often!

      well, i guess that confirm my suspicions. UA-cam will block the name of the website, even though it's a legal, digital bookstore for reading manga. Thanks UA-cam for encouraging piracy! By the way, the digital bookstore, which i can't say because of UA-cam censorship, also has a windows and iOS/android app, so you read it on the go and is really convenient way of reading digital manga. It also syncs across devices, so you can pick up where you left off.

Danganronpa has a 4-5 video games to it's name plus manga and an anime don't watch the first one it isn't very good but Danganronpa 3 anime is quite good it has 2 arcs that should technically be watched separately but you can watch them together. Your turn to die has a video game and manga. You should check out Spy X Family at some point! It was what got me into collecting/reading manga in the first place! A video about it should get some views as well if you review it. Thanks as always!

      I loved the anime so far, and was actually looking for a copy, but it's very hard to find used copies of book 1! It's so popular right now!

    Now we need to see your Library of Manga! Ahaha! the manga I'm using for vocabulary is おじさまと猫 and Spy x Family. Spy x Family is a little harder to read. I'm using those two for vocabulary!

      I forgot to take a shot of the "library" for the end of the video! haha It's going to be my background for every video now though, so you'll definitely see it. ;-)

    Lowkey sad that the first thing I thought was how I could read all that manga in about 4 days. (This is coming from a dude who reads whole series every other day)

    I respect your drive, but I wonder if you aren't taking on too much at once. I guess I appreciate the convenience of an abundance of modern study resources, but does it really help?
    With the perk of living in Japan and extensive resources it almost seems overstimulating.
    I guess that it must seem like a race against time to proficiency; not that I doubt the efficiency of living a Japanese lifestyle in language acquisition. It kinds of begs the question as to whether or not more study equals better language skills.

    • @kira_y
      @kira_y Рік тому

      Just to follow up, I was thinking about how many students can pass the N1 test by studying hard. But after they've passed the test they must fall back into a slump because their command of the language isn't permanently at that level.
      Anyone can cram to pass a test, but long-term retention is a different story. I'm not saying that there isn't benefit to passing the test, but it seems to be a matter of what follows and how they continue building.

      @@kira_y For what it's worth, this channel and my website are my only job. So doing challenges like this are not really that overwhelming. Though I don't always succeed. Also, I'm already fluent in Japanese. This is just to help me get even better. =)

       @ToKini Andy It'll be interesting to see how the challenge turns out.
      I think I primarily see people bingeing for enjoyment or casual reinforcement.
      Even if it doesn't boost one's proficiency score by much, it can still serve as a social boon; between raw proficiency and refined social skills, social skills are typically the more desireable of the two.

    i don't know why you're against people recommending legal ways of reading raw manga at no cost, but whatever. i was just trying to help people who want to read untranslated manga.
