Glad you and your family are good. The storm did quite a bit of damage. Monogram reboxed a few of the older Aurora kits. I was never part of the modelers club. I always liked the Aurora kits. Great video. Thanks for sharing Matt. Enjoy your week.

In the early '70s when Aurora went under the molds were sold to Monogram. During the trai trip a derailment desroyed 5 a/c molds. These 1/24 scale kits were among their best and have been reissued several times. If you can get copies of the Graham thomas Monogram, Revell and Aurora histories, you'll instantly become an expert. I woud guess they referred to it as 1/25 was so they could claim to be competing with AMT.

First molded by Aurora in 1962 the Young Model Builders Club version was boxed in 1972 which is the last Aurora boxing, then released by Monogram in1978 then in 1990 in the Exotic Car Series with new parts, and lastly released by Revell/Monogram in 1997 using the artwork from the Aurora box. An interesting release from Aurora in 1970 in one of their square boxes as a Jaguar XKE Spitfire with camo paint and fighter roundels in The Battle Aces Of The Road series.

Glad to hear y’all survived the storm. I feel for the ones who suffered more damage to their homes and property. I always think about the song “Dead Man’s Curve” when I see/hear an XKE. 😂 Wow, that old box art! F-102’s and old bucket fighter helmets! Peace and love.

I've never owned this kit, but I built the Monogram kit for a friend. Also, the Maserati 3500 GT, Ferrari 250 GTO, Porsche 904, and Aston Martin DB-4 were twins

Here in Tallahassee, Florida we were originally predicted to get hit dead on. Luckily for us, it turned eastward and hit 50 miles east of us. Power outages all over town but somehow I never lost power! Poor folks in Steinhatchee east of us got hammered the second time in a row. I only had a couple large tree limbs come down in my yard. There are still lots of power outages in the affected coastal counties.
It'd be cool to have both the Jaguar and that Convair F-102 Delta Dagger jet fighter kit together. 😊

This hobby is such a fascinating one when you go down the rabbit hole of older kits, tracing their manufacturers over the years and so on. Even more wonderful when you find one in its original box dating back 50-60 years. That's another one of the features I enjoy on this channel.

The hurricane did a real bad number on the Spartanburg- Greenville area. Duke power said nearly all of their customers lost power.
    Asheville got flooded out bad.
We all got caught off balance on this one. We werent expecting the winds. Just about everyone has a tree blown over in their yard.
This mess sure puts the skids on model building.
Reporting by candlelight because its dark.
    Cheers
    Terry

If you want to build an accurate E-Type I'd strongly discourage using this tooling. Aurora was always the first out with a kit. Rumor has it this master was created from newspaper images of the Earls Court Motor Show Reveal in 1961. If you compare the body with pictures of the real car it looks more like an MGA, or something. Kids didn't care back then and they sold a ton. The best E-Type Coupe kit is still the Heller tool in 1/24. The new Revell tooling uses the roadster windshield height which is nigh impossible to fix. Gunze Sangyo also did a High Tech 1/24 roadster with white metal and photoetch wheels. Rare but they turn up on feebay occasionally.

David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA (Monday, 30 September, 2024)
We in central Ohio had a lot of wind and steady rain. America Electric and Power had to call back all the line workers who had gone south to help with repairs.
I understand that Jaguar has made a new commemorative Jaguar Type E (here in the USA, Jaguar XKE) with an inline 6-cylinder 400 hp engine in the front.

Love those XKE's. My brother-in-law had a real one back in the day (ca 1968). It got stolen (of course).
I'm in central Fla. We dodged the bullet with Helene (55 mph gusts). I looked up the prediction for your neck of the woods. It showed gusts of nearly 80 mph in the wee hours there! I'm glad y'all made it through. My thoughts and prayers are with those who suffered greatly.

I remember back in 1962 or 1963, my dad took my friend and me to a custom car show. They had a booth where they gave kits to kids to build at the show. My friend was given that jag kit. I missed out and did'nt get a kit. My friend gave me the kit. I still have parts of it. The front and rear suspensions up under an amt 32 roadster. It was an impressive kit at the time.

You said you don’t watch the news. If a hurricane is coming, maybe you should.

I used to get models in the mail like that. I answered an ad - I probably sent them a $ 1.00 or something to get it going. When the first kit showed up my mother was not happy because she had to write a check to pay for it of course. But she let it go for a few months and I received various models over time. A viking ship, a bright orange Branniff 747, an aircraft carrier, a hydrofoil, etc. I don't remember them all. Eventually she canceled the program and that was the end of that. I have bought a few of the kits I built back then in recent years so I could build them again as an adult and I have great memories with those old models. 👍

The box art for the Aurora XKE kit cracks me up, in reality the air force would *never* allow someone to just drive a civilian vehicle on to an active air base tarmac very near fighter jets on high alert, the security police (SPs) and mechanics would be going ape and not in a good way! 😄
*Quick Tip:* Use Purple Power to strip off the chrome paint if you desire to remove the chrome, submerge parts in a container full of PP and in five minutes or less the chrome plating is gone!

Great stuff Mathew. I get lost in the nostalgic effect of the antique aspect of the model. Your not different I think we all or most of us like to collect the old. I would rather build a repop of old kit and keep the old I. My stash
