When you think of the number of people who have went & died in other countries, so that they could have a right to vote in a free & fair election, when basically the citizens don’t have it; it’s sickening! First, Detroit has the second biggest economy in the Midwest second only to Chicago. Bigger than the twin cities, bigger than Madison and Milwaukee combined, bigger than Cleveland and Cincinnati combined. Detroit has very wealthy neighborhoods and suburbs.
It definitely has problems, but it isn't the worst place on the planet.

I was in downtown Detroit 2 nights ago in a sold out Little Caesar’s Arena for a Red Wings game and there was no where to park because across the street there were 45,000 people crammed into Comerica Park to watch the Tigers. The restaurants and bars were packed and the streets were jammed. We are building giant new hotels and have refurbished old buildings full of young people who love the gritty and real people that live here. Please don’t come back.

The last Republican mayor of Detroit left office in '62 which means that the democratic party takes the city for granted.
