I feel for Dean Martin Sr. I lost my only child, my son, at age 30 due to suicide on the 4th of July 2011. I can identify with the candle without a flame. For 13 years I have just been going through the motions. I am starting to get adjusted to the loss, but I am still not ready to fully face it. It hurts as if someone is laying a concrete block on my heart. I am alive today only because of my family and friends who have allowed me to grieve in my own way, picking up the slack when I fell behind mentally, holding my heart when I would slip into a sudden hole of dispair. Hearing this tragic story helped me a little in seeing myself in a "mirror" and knowing what I have gone through, I am not alone in the experience.

I am so sorry for your loss. My sister lost her son 1 month before your son passed in 2011. His passing was also due to suicide at the age of 18, one week after his high school graduation. I'm familiar with the incredible challenges that suicide survivors are faced with, and I'm so terribly sorry for anyone who finds themselves on this journey of finding some semblance of peace within. May you have moments of beautiful memories and lasting images of your son along your winding path, and know that your son is often closer than you may think! My sincere condolences!

I don’t usually admire celebrities. I expected not to like Dean Martin Jr. as well. I met him when he was on the tennis tour. I was working at a tournament. Many athletes with huge egos were on display. They may have outshone his tennis skills but not his multi talented life, let alone his family connections.
Dean surprised me by being exceedingly friendly. I never saw an ego on him. I left the tournament reveling at how down to earth someone in his shoes had been. It really surprised me. I’ll never forget that.

You know, if you read his sister's book, Deana Martin, "Memories are made of this." Dean Sr. always believed in treating people with respect, especially his fans. I think he probably taught that to his children. God bless him.

I was a mission pilot for Civil Air Patrol in California when Captain Martin and his RIO went down. I won't go into details as to how the accident happened, but my memory tells me that he was following radar vectors at night in poor weather. Ground control sent him toward the San Gabriel Mountains setting him up for sequencing for landing. Someone forgot about him and failed to turn him back toward the runway. He never saw the mountain. We searched for him the next day and it didn't take long for someone to find him. He was found where he disappeared off radar. That was one of the hardest air searches I ever flew.

I don't remember much of Jr., but I do remember how much those nasty tabloid magazines and shows hounded Dean Sr after his son passed. They followed him everywhere he went, and often had videos of the poor man having a few too many. He lost his child, who he absolutely adored. He had the right to cope with his loss however he wanted.

When I was in college I was an intern on a Los Angeles news magazine show (“Eye on LA”). I went along with the crew to do a story on Dean Paul Martin at March AFB. Spent the day with him-ready room, ramp, at the F4. Cameraman went up with him in the Phantom. Really, really nice guy. Some years later I heard a news flash about a plane crash from March AFB. I thought to myself, “I only know one pilot from March. What are the chances…” Sad day that I never forgot.

@ The woman’s Auxiliary held a fund raiser and he volunteered to work in the kissing booth. The woman were lined up and my mom thought it was funny. I was 14 and paid a dollar for a kiss because I had a crush on him. He kissed me on the cheek and my mom found out after and told me he was too old for me and to be interested in boys my own age. But he was so nice and took us one time to a flight simulator where I got to fly around a little. My mom was a looker but had 4 kids so don’t know how serious they were. I babysat when they went out and he always brought her home by 11 🤷🏼‍♀️ and all she said later was he was always a gentleman. She did cry hearing about his death later when I was in the Air Force myself. It was very sad 😢

But what stopped me was I realized it was just a silly teenager dream and would never happen. My mom had many of his dad’s albums and when I had to wash the dishes (I was the family dishwasher), I would close the doors to the kitchen, put on his albums and sing along with Dean as I washed! A friend of mine went to UPT with Deano. He was a totally normal guy, never asking for any "star" breaks. He was just there to get his training and move on to his CANG F-4 gig. Expecting that he was a spoiled celebrity kid, when it came time to go cross country in the T-38, few wanted to go with Deano. The one who stepped up was met in Vegas when they landed by two bikini clad limo babes who drove them to Dean's hotel where the two pilots were the celebrities of the night. After that, EVERYBODY wanted to go cross country with Deano. Sad he was lost so soon. He had very little experience upon which to draw upon at that point. Flying is an incredibly unforgiving vocation to even the smallest of mistakes. After 30 years of military and airline experience, when I watch stories like Deano's, I think, "There but for the grace of God, go I."

I remember hearing about this. It truely saddened me. It looked Dean Martin himself aged 100 years overnight. I don't consider myself a psychic but sometimes I get vibrations and images when I touch something or someone! My most startling reaction was when touched a front page picture of OJ Simpson. I eas going to work at that time and would walk to the local newstand to pick up The Daily News as routine. I walked into the store . The newspaper rack was there by the door. I put my right hand on the newspaper and instantly I felt intense cold shoot up my right arm and spread across my chest. It felt as though my heart was freezing and I was starting to gasp! I quickly pulled my hand away and I was fine. I stayed about 2 minutes to pull myself together and walked out. I didn't buy the newspaper THAT day! This ocurred during the trial. As I said I don't consider myself nor call myself psychic but sometimes, just sometimes...........😢😢😢

Sloan is a psychic, so her and a friend went looking for the truth of what happened.
The police in California wouldn't let her go close to him, yet a photographer was right beside him.
He was forced off the highway and ran into a mailbox. I think it was very quick. Cut an artery in his leg.
She was numb for a long time. She's so courageous. Keith got her UA-cam going just before it happened. It's almost like he knew. 😢

I would like to share with your readers some additional details on the death of Dino Jr., if I may.
I spent an entire afternoon with the psychic Dean brought in to find his favorite son, and his name was Peter Hurkos. At the time Peter was acknowledged as the greatest psychic in the world and when Dino's jet went missing, Dean contacted him immediately to find out where it was because no one could find the wreckage of his aircraft. Peter was what is called a "psychometrist," which means, he has to actually touch something that belonged to the person you are searching for, so he told Dean to bring his son's flight suit to his home. When he got there, Dean placed the beloved garment in Peter's outstretched arms, and the moment he did, Peter felt "sick to his stomach," experiencing the actual moment of someone's terror when they know they're going to die. That's when he knew that Dino would not be returning, sadly adding, "They won't even find enough to bury."
Two weeks later, a friend of mine who volunteers for the California Search and Rescue Team was called to search the exact part of the San Gabriel Mountains where Peter told them they would find the plane, and it lead them directly to it. Because the fighter jet was carrying ordinance (high explosives) at the time, according to my friend, *"they didn't even find enough to bury,"* which mirrored Peter's prediction, perfectly. No where was this fact printed anywhere, only relayed directly to me through Peter's exact words, so when my friend described the crash scene like this, it was chilling.
Oddly enough, afterward I asked Peter for a quick reading, and he asked to hold my car keys. He said, "There's something wrong with your car's transmission." I laughed and told him that he was wrong, that my 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo "was still brand-new." Six months later as I was driving home, the entire transmission of my car fell apart and it couldn't even be repaired. I never doubted Peter's predictions again.

You're quite welcome. The story was so amazing even I sometimes find it hard to believe. I was actually hired to photograph an actor that Peter's wife was representing, and he just came along for the ride. When I saw his license plate that read, "HURKOS," I asked him if he'd ever heard of Peter Hurkos, and when he said that he was the same, I nearly fell over, I'd heard so much about him. He was a very nice gentleman, and was also responsible for finding the Charles Manson gang and even the Boston Strangler.

He just happened to have an audition with Sinatra and signed to his record label? He just happened to get acting experience while as kid working in a couple of his father's films? Worked in Beverly Hills in the '80s. While shopping in a BH stationary store (Francis Orr) saw him with Desi Arnaz, Jr., who had a really bad cold. Having seen many celebrities, was impressed by the guy - he seemed so normal and nice; which isn't the usual from my experiences. When he was married to gymnast Dorothy Hamell was an across the street neighbor from an acquaintance. It was north of Wilshire Blvd just off Veteran Avenue on the east side. Remember the night Dean found out he'd died - Dean was at a press conference for the 1988 Concert Tour he was doing with Frank and Sammy. Remember a standing crowd scene at the event showing Dean just after he'd learned Dino had died. Everyone thought he was extremely drunk when he was actually in shock and totally destroyed. Heartbreakingly sad - a good guy gone much too soon
