I don't care what ANYONE says, Predator 2 is an awesome movie. It has nothing to do with nostalgia either. Everything from the environment, to the atmosphere, to the actors, to the side stories, and especially a kick ass performance from Danny Glover, made this an awesome sequel. This movie truly scared me as a kid, even more then the 1st.
That bluescreen shot of the Predator overlooking the city is 30 years old and looks incredible. A modern CGI version of that shot would not improve on it one bit.
King Willie "the prince of powder" is a truly iconic character, can't think of another who had such a short amount of screen time, that made such an impact, Respect to the actor who played him. Truly dread man, truly dread.
Although I don't know that serious Rastas - which this guy is clearly meant to be - would be involved in the cocaine business. Weed, huge quantities of it, with a murderously enforced monopoly, yes. But I think they'd consider coke to be bad medicine, to be cursed by God and avoid it.
@@Baribrotzer There is always some asshole who thinks the rules don't apply to them. :) We have one such Fu*k wit as out Prime Minister at the moment. :(
Man... The way King Willie emphasizes dread with that facial expression.... Its a wise man to admit fear and KW just admitted it to a rival.... He is terrified!
That shot of the predator crouching on the ledge overlooking the city is epic. I've always thought of Batman or Daredevil doing the same thing, watching over their cities for bad guys. Except this time the predator is surveying his "concrete jungle" for prey. Badass!
I remember being a kid and thinking... well that didn't help him much. Grown up... it does so much. It's funny seeing Mike's reaction at first with the bones, considering he's a long time cop in LA, having heard stories about voodoo and seeing those bones quite often is a joke to him. But the minute Willie turns and looks him right in the eyes, that's when Mike knows that even King Willie, considered one of the most powerful men in LA knows this 'thing' is no human, nothing that can be explained. From Willie's world of power and fear, he can't stop it. From Harrigan's world of law and order, he can't stop it. It is truly DREAD. But the only part I wish was included, was his last words to Mike, the only advice he could give him: 'Prepare yourself.' Letting him know, whatever it is, whatever it wants, whatever happens: get ready, because the showdown is coming, and you better be ready. What a masterpiece, such a shame it didn't get the recognition it deserves.
I absolutely love Predator 2 , to me it’s almost as good as the first one and I do not understand why would anybody complain about that incredible sequel . Of course anything after that is disgusting
Sequels aren't usually that great, but this was truly a master piece...especially this scene where King Willie is being decapitated. Visual effects top notch..
looking back i didnt give this movie the credit it deserved, after seeing how movies and their sequels are treated these days, this was done with a fair degree of class and respect for its origin. a very enjoyable ride
King Willie was a very poetic Rasta Bahd Mahn. He knew it was a different Demon Stalking them All. In this Sequel the Predator was unknowingly looked as The Grim Reaper Collecting all Mans Souls for all sins even the cops untold sins.
The next scene with the water splash surprise was the real deal.. Predator be tracking Harrigan as the chosen one, he ended up taking King Willie as a consolation trophy.. Kind off like a collateral!
Predator 2 is a great movie, is just that the first one was a masterpiece. But the people who like to knock Predator 2 don't know what they're talking about.
The writing for this scene was genius. Starting the convo with terms like Babylon (Rastafarian word use for "cop") and dread, immersed u in the Culture. Always thought Basil Wallace would have had a good time playing this character, maybe could've forced a little more screen time to the King as well? Either way, awesome scene and movie.
Interesting! I was a youth exiting a hyper-religious background when I caught this movie. I think that's what influenced me to assume King Willie was referring to Harrigan as "Babylon" in the sense that the cop was daring to reach out in a sort of truce to a known criminal element. Thus Harrigan was acting as a source of "confusion" to the cartel leader. The city name Babel -- from the book of Genesis -- has been interpreted to mean "confusion," & has been tied elsewhere in the Scriptures to the name Babylon. ...Yet now I've come to learn the Rastafarian intent behind the mention of "Babylon."
Calvin Lockhart was in this movie for less than 3 minutes and he owned his part. A presence and a charisma that just resonated in his role. This movie ruled.
The actor who played King Willie really nailed his performance. His character is in the movie for only three minutes but is one of the best characters in Predator 2.
We now know that to make a great predator film, you must have a great director, great actors and a good story. To lack any one of those things will result in a sub-par predator film. The last 2 films are a perfect example of this
I remember asking my dad as a kids watching this; "what does he mean by that ?" My dad simply replied "He's scared that's what he means, the guy is shtting his pants" i just started laughing but as an adult now this scene just gives me chills.
Predators 1&2 are the best Predators movie of all time.... wish they make a Predators movie with Danny glover and Arnold Schwarzenegger in it together.....
Mr policemen.. Thumbnails,, While talking face reactions,, conversations,, owning their People sentences perfect perfect perfect.. King Willy is making you feel what is what in real life (politicaly) 😉
Ironically, this is the closest we ever got to a faithful Lovecraft movie. They 100% nailed the vibe Lovecraft always wanted to create, especially in this scene.
such a cool concept. The monster wasn't on anyones side, just killing whoever was packin' heat! Having it moved to the city from the jungle was neat, the idea that even ordinary people were carrying guns and were fair game to the monster was a neat twist. If you're not armed he's not interested lol.
Arnold refused to do Predator 2 because of: 1-) a salary dispute according to producers. 2-) He already had his hands full with Total Recall and Kindergarden Cop. 1 leading role a year is tough enough, 2 is heavy and 3 would be extreme even by his standards.
no. voodoo followers believe there are worse fates than death. spirits that can eat your soul. king willie thinks the Predator is such a spirit. that's "true" dread, even for people that don't fear death.
You cant see the eyes of the demon until him come calling...
There's something about the way the Predator looks watching the streets that is just too awesome.

predators 1 & 2 are the two best classics. Great actors great directors. There's something raw about them. That's why they pass the test of time.
Like Terminator 1 & 2
"You can't see the eyes of the demon, until him come callin" as great a line as "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
Or, A GOOD SUPPLY OF BODY BAGS
Sounds like King Willie is talking of the Predator legend, but its usually too late when you see the eyes of this demon when he comes callin'!
" There's no stopping what can't be stopped, no killing what can't be killed.. "
If it bleeds, we can kill it.

There is more to it. For a Rastafari like King Willie, Dread is a Holy Word.
He is fully expecting to meet the devil soon.
"The Spirit World, man"
Basically King Willie's version of saying that the killer is not from this world.
