  • I diagnose and replace a faulty fuel injector in my 1989 Isuzu Trooper. It has the 2.6L, 4ZE1 4 cylinder engine, mated to the MUA5 5 speed manual transmission. In this video, I show how to replace the fuel injector. I replaced it with a GB remanufactured fuel injector that I purchased on RockAuto.

Thank you for your video. I’m trying to replace all four injectors on my Isuzu trooper 1989. I’m having a hard time getting injectors that will fit. Where did you purchase your injector from?

Hi. I've got this same Engine in an Australian Holden Redeo. I am hoping that it will be just as easy to get those fuel injectors out. Thankyou so much for this video and how you give a realistic time frame on how long it might take. (EGR hose😂) Now I am confident I'll need a whole day

Everything is easy except that darn egr pipe, both getting it off and then getting it back on again. You'll likely spend a frustrating amount of time just trying to get the thread started. Good luck!

I just came across your channel tonight. Excellent job editing!
I have an 89 that’s been sitting since I botched up a fuel injector rebuild. I thought I did everything right, but wasn’t quite sure how the injectors are supposed to feel when seating them, if they are supposed to pop in or if the fuel rail holds them in. Anyway, I fired it up and gas was squirting out of one of them. It’s possible that the body of the injector itself is bad. But I kind of was burned out from fighting the common chamber, getting the old gasket cleaned off and getting that EGR pipe installed on the backside. I did discover a trick for the EGR pipe - put a pair of vise grips on it and it’s much easier to manipulate into position to get the threads started.

They do pop in when seated correctly. Once they're in, they should more or less be able to hold themselves in place without falling over. I made the mistake of bolting down the fuel rail before they were all seated properly, thinking that as the fuel rail gets tightened, the injectors will get pulled in with it and seat correctly. This was wrong and I ended up damaging the body of an injector as you did and fuel sprayed everywhere when I started it up. So definitely seat them all first, and then tighten down the fuel rail. Use a silicon lube of some kind on the o-rings so they slip in real nice, and minimizing the chance of damage. That was my biggest takeaway. Hope that helps!

      Thanks for the reply!
That sounds very much like my situation, I thought bolting the fuel rail down is what would seat them. I’m curious how the body itself could get damaged from the injector not being seated, but it does seem like that’s what happened. If I remember right it looked like it was leaking near the plug on the injector.
I’m starting to get motivated to fix it!

@@garagestory you could have damaged what is called the "pintle cap". The very tip (the cap) of the injector is made of plastic, so it's pretty easy to scrape it up or crush it accidentally

@@MigiTech They're Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ P3 tires, size 31x10.5x15 on the factory optioned "snowflake" style wheels. I think there's a lift, but it was done by the previous owner, so I'm not sure how much of a lift it is. Maybe 25-50mm.

The power of editing... Great job! Found the answer to my biggest question...Rock Auto. Did you do all 4 while you had it apart? How are they working out? Thanks for sharing.

I actually started by doing just the one, but then I broke an o ring on a nother when I put it all back together, so I had to take it all apart and do it again. I just replaced cylinder 1 and 2 injectors. So far so good!

I bought this fuel injector on rockauto.com. I'm not sure if you have access to that website in Tunisia. If not, you can try looking on eBay. Good luck!
