Abdi G, Today's game is Pick and Roll on WHOEVER is the weakest defender. Haven't you seen enough of Curry getting abused on that play? Fortunately for Curry he has Dray and Iggy on help defense. Nash may be a better 3pt shooter but not by a mile. Kidd can't shoot off the dribble 3 but he is a deadly in spot up 3.
I think you confused Nash with John Stockton. Stockton is the one with an insane assist-to-turnover ratio. FYI: Kidd has a better assist-to-turnover ratio than Nash. While he couldn't shoot like Nash, he was a much better defender. He probably has twice as much as steals and blocks, which led to offense for his team.
Nash is someone you need to build the roster around, while Kidd is no doubt much more versatile and can be plugged into any system. But Nash’s shooting can stretch the opposing defense to a degree second only to Steph Curry, opening the game up for his teammates simply by being on the court. To put simply, Kidd makes any average team a good team. Nash makes a good team into a great team.
Both elite point guards. Nash is way superior as an offensive threat. Kidd is way superior on defence. Both great facilitators. Kidd was better. He was a good one on one defender and good team defender.
@@Coldskin1 Bad in the playoffs? Multiple deep runs in the playoffs and great stats with both the Mavs and Suns. He didn't only rely on pick and roll. Phoenix he played run and gun as well as half court basketball. Same with the Mavs. He was also a great face up player when needed. You didn't watch him play. smh
@@kharis87 everything u said may be correct but Kidd was still a better player, Kidd got better offensively when he went to the nets and so on and was just as good of a facilitator arguably even better since he took that nets team to back to back finals and worked with lesser pieces then mash did his whole career and the defense isn’t even arguable Kidd was way better
Steve Nash has my heart. So im going with Steve Nash. At his prime, Nash was unguardable. The way he sliced double teams and always found the open man...Nash was something else.
Put Nash in eastern conference and theyd make multiple finals aswell. Those Jersey teams would struggle to get the 8th seed in the west, while Nash was leading his team to 60 wins.
It's not wise to compare their team accomplishments because even though Kidd made the Finals twice with a worse team (Nets), he did so in a much weaker eastern conference. Nash had a better team, but the western conference was tougher. I do still think that the Suns underachieved with Nash as their leader though. What the Warriors are now is what the Suns should have been in the mid-2000's. I'd take Kidd because he played better defense and he was bigger.
Sandernista can’t give you that one they beat the pistons and Celtics in their prime. Nash since 04 had multiple chances to make just a finals appearance and couldn’t do that.
Man Chiney is gorgeous, and I also agree with her, although Nash was a defensive liability his offensive game was supreme and would still be viable in today's game. They're both neck and neck tho.
Kidd was the better player, Nash was the better point guard. I'd rather have Kidd on my team back in the day, but I'd rather have Nash on my team in today's game. You could make an argument for both can't go wrong either way
Kidd was the better PG. Nash was the better player(2X MVP). Kidd is still my favorite player ever. Jason was the PG with the Suns. Nash was the SG when they played together
@@jknumber5138 nash was better off ball because of his shooting accuracy. Kidd spotting up in his prime wasn’t as effective that’s why you’d move nash to the 2
2:11 dumb argument, the 03-04 Suns won 29 games. Nash signs with them in the summer, and in 04-05 they win 62 games (10 more than Kidd won in his first season with the Nets), are #1 in the conference, and Nash wins the MVP. And on top of that Nash had the Spurs, Lakers, Mavs, Kings, Rockets, etc out West to deal with. Kidd had nobody out East. It's pretty pathetic that the Nets won the conference with 52 wins. Kidd made the finals twice but it was a cakewalk to get there. Nash is the better player. Can't go wrong with either, but Nash made everybody around him better, was one of the best shooters the game has ever seen, and his system in Phoenix changed the game of basketball into what it is today. That's how you know he is a legendary player.
Disagree both replaced Marbury but Nash had All Stars Stat Marion Joe Johnson Q Richardson Barbosa Kidd had Kittles Van Horn Martin and Jefferson. Could Nash win 50+ games with those guys? Ahhhhhhhh No!!!!!
The only ppl who think nash is better is the ppl who only remember j kidd old ass on dallas lol they dont know the real j kidd... nash didnt make anybody better lol those dudes were all already sick.. amare was an allstar and was in mvp race in nyk.. marion was sick before nash got there and jo johnson left and became an all star.. q rich game got worse on phoenix he actually used to have a sick post game but became a spot up shooter and he was just ok at it... j kidd made everyone better.. kenyon martin was never that good and j kidd got MIKEY MOORE PAID!!! The biggest scrub in the world jkidd had him lookin like a baller! Lmao if u dont know mikey moore u cant argue this point! jkidd even brought knicks far when he was old af.. j kidd guards big men in the post even near retirement... nash is the biggest defensive liability at the point than anybody ive seen and im a nash fan.. j kidd was waayyy more athletic and ran the break like a beast!! Kidd got crazy stls his defense was legit!
I'll go with Jason Kidd. Nash won those two MVPs after the rule changes, which really helped his game. Shooting 50% from the field for the first time, at age 30. Also, it kind of sucks seeing these argument with someone too young to have even seen Kidd played. Then they dismiss it because Paul Pierce is old and so it must be bias and "they know better." He played against them both.
@@nestorpoetus781 When did he hate on Larry. Doesn't seem like the best idea for a lifetime Boston Celtic. Also, PP hates o lots of things, I don't take it too seriously
Kidd single handedly (yeah no like, literally single handedly) took a shitty Nets team, and not only put them back on the map, into the playoffs, but in the Finals. With a very ordinary lineup. Nash did get two MVP's and was great but also the product of a great system. Kidd also was the opposite of a liability on defense (that's Nash), and his longevity trumps Nash in the race as he turned into an elite 3pt shooter way late in his career and got a ring.
I would go with JK. He is a triple double machine. And his triple double were nothing like Westbrook's, and those triple double actually helped the team to win games. And JK made his teammates better. Nash is really good Player, no one can compared to his shooting and passing skills. But if I have to choose one of them in my team, JK without a doubt.
I would have to go with Steve Nash. Jason Kidd is great but Nash shoots over 90% from the free throw line and shot over 42% for his career from the 3 point line. The 2004 suns were incredible
@@OTCwitDutCh he won those MVPs cause he was some little white dude. Don't get me wrong they were good seasons but I could of picked multiple different players that deserved it just as much as he did if not more those seasons
Kidd easily. He made almost every team better from the first time he stepped on the court. 94 Mavs won 13 games. Kidd shows up and they win 36 games. Suns win 41 games in 96 and 40 games in 97. Kidd's first full season in 98 they win 56 games. The Nets win 26 games in 01. Kidd shows up and they win 56 games in 02. The only team that didn't improve in the win column was the 09 Mavs. But they won 51 games the year before so it's tough to improve on that...plus Kidd was 35. So they maintained the greatness and won 50 games. Nash didn't even win the full time starting job in the NBA until his 5th season. There was never any question who the starting PG would be when Kidd showed up to to a team. Kidd never went through his 20s barely squeaking onto 2 All Star games either. Kidd didn't need a system to make him look good. The best example of how overrated Nash is...is the 05 Mavs. The Mavs won 52 games in 04. Nash leaves and the Mavs improve to 58 wins. Their Defensive ranking improved from 26th in 04 to 9th in 05. How much did it hurt their offense? They fell from 1st to 4th. Not a huge impact compared to how much they improved on defense. Kidd was still making plays to win a championship at age 37. It was him stealing the ball from Kobe at the end of game 1 to seal the win for the Mavs. That's not a play Nash would ever make.
There is little context to this argument. The Mavs added Terry & Stackhouse after Nash left and Josh Howard became better. That argument alone is invalid
Kidd was the better all around player for sure, but Nash was an offensive beast. He took a Suns team that went 29-53 to 62-20 the first season he went back. They finished 1-2-2 in the Western conference the next 3 years. He was a much better shooter than Kidd, and a much better passer. Kidd had more size and was more of an old school player, get the rebound/ pass ahead etc. etc. Kidd also had a grit to his game and was a better defender. You really can't go wrong with either guy. But, I would pick Nash.
Jason Kidd led a lesser new Jersey nets team to 2 finals I love him as a new Jersey native. Steve Nash had a great suns team but just proof that Dantoni system is only great for the regular season and against teams they are significantly better than.
The east was awful the years new jersey went to the finals. like the east is typically bad but early 2000s from 00-03, everyone knew the west finals was the real finals
The Suns would have made the Finals if not for some scandals as well as fluke plays like Ron Arrest buzzer beaters. Also Nash unlike Harden didnt choke in the Playoffs as he actually upped his efficiency and scoring.
This is a cynical piece. It's meant to demean one players success and accomplishments. Steve Nash just got inducted to the HOF, however the priority is to create an unflattering narative of Nash, vs. congratulating and honoring great players? Slow news day?
Kyrie Irving said in an interview quoted Brad Stevens: "Comparison is the thief of joy." And that is exactly what is happening here. Both had their strengths, their weaknesses. For me I loved Jason Kidd, a bit biased yes because I was able to watch him more, but I'm not gonna bash Nash cause he was a great player and PG too
Dave Court it’s just comparing two players. Saying either one is better doesn’t diminish the other. For example if I say I would take Jordan over Lebron doesn’t mean I’m saying Lebron is a bad player or diminishing anything he did
Ironic that jay Kelly, a person who will never achieve anything, a person that has never seen a live basketball game knows more about the sport then Paul
Its J Kidd for me. Nash was a killer, but I believe I could get a little more out of J Kidd in today’s league. He wasn’t the best shooter for a lot of his career but he showed that when he really focused on it, he could become a legitimate sniper. He’s a player that could do anything I needed which included stopping opposing guards which is huge in today’s game.
you do realize that kidd played 200 more games? Also its such a dumb argument to talk about season stats. You can take Carmelo Anthony on your team and ill take larry bird, enjoy thought dumb logic.
J Kidd is a better all round player/champion.... Defense wins championships ..Nash teams had no D, but he could get away with it now in today's game.... but back then he was too small(Curry lucky)
Nash is a superior offensive player. Kidd is a superior defensive player. Nash has the range. Nash is the better teammate. On paper Kidd is better. But Nash is better.
What you mean come on now? The only think Nash does better than Kidd is shoot. Everything else Kidd does better and Kidd wasn't a terrible shooter either.
One Kxng he was in his prime tho. It’s when he became more older that he became a good shooter especially 3 point shooter but he wasn’t anymore in his prime
@Xplosive 1 nash is nothing like john Stockton john Stockton had no weakness he overall better than both and he played hella defense and he was way tougher than both and compared to Stockton nash is flashy stockton is so underrated its crazy
Daniel Pagan, That is why *USED* to call him ason. J-Kidd is *9th* in All-Time 3pts made and Nash is *18th* You will have a better 3pt% if you have less attempts. Curry is an ANOMALY! lol
J-Kidd is 9th time because of the longetivity, not because he was better. Please tell me both Nash and J-kidd's 3 point percentage for their career. Also, FG% and Free throw %.
Crypto Hoop, When did I claim Kidd is a better shooter than Nash? The topic of the OP is Kidd has no "Jump shot", How can he have no J? While being in the *9th* All-time 3pts made.
Kevin Wilson Kidd averaged 7/4/6 during his finals win and wasn’t even that big of a reason the Mavs won. Dirk, Terry, Marion and Chandler guarding the paint were much more important for that series. I love JKidd by the way but get your facts.
Only reason why people hate on Nash is because he had Amare on his team. What they forget is that Amare was never healthy when it was actually needed. No point in playing the regular season if you just can't show up in the playoffs......
Jason Kidd of course. He´s not only the better allaround basketballplayer, better defender, better passer, had better courtvision, but he had bigger impact on his teammates. He made the guys around him better, maybe moreso than anyone we´ve seen since Magic and Bird. If it´s for personal stats or winning mvp´s which belonged to Shaq it´s Nash. In all other aspects it´s Kidd. Paul Pierce is 100% right. But Shaq could stop whining about these mvp´s nonetheless btw.
The guy sitting next to Rachel said it all. The Nets won 27 games in 2000-2001 then brought in Jason Kidd with the same exact team and went to back to back finals. It's Jason Kidd for me.
Kidd imo - Is the third best PG ever and the best PG perimeter defender ever aside from Payton - remember Kidd took a laughing stock Nets team to the Finals 2x and lead the team in DRotG in back-to-back seasons.
Jason Kidd is the Greatest Rebounding PG in NBA History everyone knows that and don't mention Magic he was 6"11 with Sneakers. Kidd is 2nd all time in Steals Kidd is 2nd all time in Assist Jason Kidd Carried the NETS 2 Back To Back NBA Finals Only the Lakers and Spurs Dynasty stopped him from winning in his prime ( 2011 💍) Jason Kidd is the Best PG I have ever seen in my life take it from a Celtics fan he broke our hearts in back to back playoffs he Made Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson All Stars They never made another All Star team after they left the Nets Kidd also was a much better defender then Nash and Kidd Finish TOP 8 ALL TIME IN 3 POINTERS MADE AND HE WAS ROBBED OF THE MVP IN 2002 BECAUSE HE BEAT HIS WIFE So the NBA didn't want to give him the MVP because of that Look it up Nash shouldn't have won MVP in 2005 that was Shaquille O'Neal and in 2006 they stole it from Kobe Bryant so ya can shove that 2x MVP shit down ya throats
No. Duncan deserved it. Check the stats: JKidd 14.7 pts 7.3 rebounds 9.9 assists 2.1 steals 0.2 blks 39.1% FG Record 52-30 in the EASTERNConference Tim Duncan 25.5 pts 12.7 Rbs 3.7 assists 2.5 blks 0.7 steals 50.8% FG Record 58-24 in the WESTERN conference Please tell me why Kidd deserve it more than Duncan. Duncan has better numbers and better Team record and was more efficient.
Crypto Hoop u think cmparing those numbers means he deserved mvp lol did u even watch basketball back then?? Kidd turned the most garbage team ever to a number #1 seed he was definitely the most valuable player he basically did the impossible... his impact on that team made him the most valuable just like when igoudala won finals mvp his numbers werent jaw dropping but if u watched that finals u against lebron u would understand... this stat watching nonsense does not tell the story.. the nets the year before were 26-56 and then jkidd made them 52-30!!! Do u know how insane that is!! Ive only seen one other player have that kind of impact and it was lebron james... (too young to remember jordan) so the fact that u think stat comparison means duncan was better is insane.. j kidds iq affected the game in ways far more important than a stat sheet would show
A K clearly u must not know basketball.. 39fg% is not bad if u shoot a lot of 3's... billups used to shoot that all the time and he was one of the most feared 3pt shooters in his time... iverson won mvp shooting 42%fg... why does that matter if u lead a team that was almost last place to first place with all role players.. ur logic is so flawed.. stop watching stats and start watching actual basketball.. ITS NOT THE SAME
J-Kidd all day. Nash never made the finals and a lot of his success in Phoenix is primarily attributed to him, when people forget that he had Stoudamire, Marion, Diaw, Johnson, Richardson at his disposal. That team between 04 - 07 was onsanely stacked. Kidd took a losing team to the finals teo straight years and lost to the Lakers and Spurs in their prime. Kidd was a threat on both sides of the court. Top 10 guard IMO.
"We had won 26 games in 2001 and then we went to the finals" And? The Suns went from a 29 win team to a 61 win team when the Suns added Nash. Going to the finals in the Eastern Conference in the early 2000s was equivalent of making it to the 2nd round in the West. "J Kidd is 3rd all time in made 3s" As a Mavs fan, I find anyone claiming Kidd was a better shooter laughable. The vast majority of his 3s were wide open and assisted on. Nash created his own shots and became perhaps the most efficient guard to ever do it.
Name me the second best player on those nets teams that made back to back finals? The suns already had an all star in Marion, an up and coming joe Johnson, a rookie of the year and pre injury amare stoudamire plus mike d antonis system. Nobody is arguing against Nash offensively because it’s not even close he was far superior than kidd in that department but kidd was also far superior than Nash in the defensive department. Kidd was also bigger and stronger which helped him be a better rebounder, defender, and he can get to the rim better than Nash. In terms of passing I think it can go either way but when you consider things overall I would pick kidd over Nash. Plus with the mvp argument let’s be for real now Nash probably deserved only one of those mvps and kidd was robbed an mvp in 2001-2002 so they should both have 1 each.
I love how people keep pointing to Nash's superior teammates, yet can't quite get how Nash essentially replaced a very good (but at times selfish) PG in Marbury, the team more than doubled their win rate, it's the same coach (D'Antoni coached the year prior too), and everyone's efficiency goes skyrocketing through the roof! You can have a loaded team (2000 Trailblazers), but if there's no leader, it doesn't matter at the end of the day. Nash's greatness was elevating the players around him, to even higher levels. It has literally nothing to do with how many points he scores, and frankly, even to do with assist numbers (he promotes ball-movement and made a ton of uncredited hockey-passes). NBA fans in general, have absolutely no idea what the hell they're looking at. Dunks, highlights, scoring titles, All Star game voting, NBA2K, etc. Nash inserted himself just enough to get everything up and going. Nash WAS the system. What D'Antoni's doing now, is somewhat similar in that it's a spread offense, and that's about it. Just because Harden gets 10 assists per game, doesn't mean that it's the same thing as Nash getting 10 assists per game. It's a number, and numbers don't always tell the whole truth. For the record, I like Harden, and I love D'Antoni, but people dump on Nash because it's easy to do in North America in 2018.
emmapeel38 first of all Nash didn’t replace Marbury, kidd was the one who literally replaced him with the same teammates and took them from the worst team in the east to back to back nba finals. Nash replaced a rookie Barbosa. And yes his teammates make a difference because as I stated Marion was already an all star, stoudamire was a beast, joe Johnson was proving how great of a scorer he was and all the team was missing was a veteran point to help run d antonis system. You couldn’t expect a rookie barbosa to run that system especially because he was never known for his passing to begin with. So yeah Nash was great and he deserves his hall of fame recognition but let’s not act like he carried a bunch of scrubs to contenders in the west like kidd did for the nets in the east.
@@stevesteve0521 You do understand that Marbury was traded to the Suns, right? So, yes Nash did replace him. And all those players were present in 2004 and they won only 29 games. Nash is the man who made that team work.
This is a dumb question. Jason Kidd played better defense and he has the stats to back it up. Kidd is 2nd in BOTH assists and steals and in his prime you might as well call him Mr. Triple Double. He embodies what a PG is supposed to be. Steve Nash is 3rd in assists, but his defense wasn't the best. For those who didn't watch Nash in his prime, Curry is a great comparison except he didn't shoot as much as Curry does.
Kidd was a great player, but Nash was the anchor of a team that revolutionized how offenses should be run. Prior to the Suns running the D'antoni system, who would've thought that shooting a lot of 3s in a very fast paced gamed would win you a lot of games? The Warriors offense now is basically that Suns offense on steroids. It is sad how maligned Nash's reputation is and he doesn't get as much credit as he deserves.
Jason kidd great defense held nash to 39 points and the suns won the game and it was nash who beat kidd off the dribble in ot and it was nash who made the 3 over kidd to send it into the first over time. So yeah …….
You must he a 2000s baby. Steve nash a system player he was just a ok/good player in dallas and didnt get “great” until dantoni. Jason kidd was the system
Kidd was the better all around player. Kidd also went to the finals 3 times and won 1 title. Nash, no NBA finals appearances even when Phoenix had the best record.
Crypto Hoop that’s a dumb comparison they both have 0 offense Allen and Roberson. J Kidd offensively wasn’t that wayyyy off from Nash if you factor in running an offense efficiently. You comparing non all stars to the MVP
Crypto Hoop yea that’s better! But still Kidd was a 17-18 ppg and 10-12 apg guy in his prime so offensively he’s not that far from Nash. Even tho Nash’s offensive skill is better overall
Way easier to erase Kidd from a game then Nash! No disrespect but look what the Celtics did to Simmons! Coaches had no answers for Nash, he controlled the ballgame no mather what! In todays era Kidds great defense would go up against these demigod PG that are all point forwards and hos defense wouldn’t be that much of a factor... Nash with his shooting would today get 20 shots per game instead of 10 like back in the days and his stats would look as inflated as Irvings, Westbrooks, Lillards, Currys etc because he’s just as good as a shooter as these guys and on top of that waaaaay better passer. Kidd was made for that 90’s era but Nash fits more eras then Kidd! Imagine todays Houston Rockets with Nash where he has the green light like Harden? OMG
Nash is better offensively in almost every way possible (Shooting 3s, FT, Off the dribble), much better handles, faster, better/more creative finisher at the basket. Kidd was the stronger of the two, which helped make him better on defence. Kidd was also a better leader than Nash IMO. Overall, I would take Kidd but it’s closer than people make it sound.
Reggie Jones yea but Steve Nash shot .428 and Jason Kidd .349 from 3. He shot 5700 3 pointers, Steve Nash only 4000. Had Steve Nash taken that many shots he would've blown Kidd out the water lol
Steve Nash back-to-back MVP, Jason Kidd back-to-back Finals appearance. Nash had shooting and playmaking advantage. Kidd had rebounding and defensive advantage. They are equal in playmaking and passing skills. They are similar in styles with different variations. Both played together in Phoenix where the team played 4 guards at a time, ideal for how the game is played today. I'd rather have them both together. They both played for Dallas as well. And both got inducted together in the Hall of Fame.
@@Coldskin1 If Steve Nash was a little less unselfish and took more shots, he would've been even better. He had good shooting percentage from 3 as well.
Steve Nash for sure. Nash is not only one of the best passers of all time, he's one of the best shooters of all time. He had multiple seasons of 50/40/90. Jason Kidd was trash at shooting. He got better when he got older but at that time he's out of his prime. Sure his defence is better but teams can hide nash if you give him multiple defenders like Steph Curry. Also, Nash wasn't a wife beater.
Nash never won a ring. Kidd had an older dirk and won a ring. Nash had a prime dirk, prime finley and nick can exel and still didn’t win. Dantoni can make you look good. Harden looks unstoppable right now but im not pickin him over a lebron James, or a kawhi leonard.
@@octopus8420 they aren't. Curry is a far better scorer than Lonzo & the gap between Lonzo & Curry defensively isn't as big as the once between Nash & Kidd.
Kid made more 3 point shots than nash. Also Jason Kidd wob an NBA championship in today's NBA. How soon you forget how Kidd guarded Westbrook Kevin durant Kobe Bryant Le Bron James Chris Bosh and wade. Nash would get destroyed in today's NBA.
Watch some JK highlights and say "How is this even a debate". Nash got great but it took time. Him and Jermaine O'neal had bad seasons in their first couple of years. I don't know what got into Nash but he blew up with the Suns...but his career still ain't no match for the Kidd!!
James Harden & Westbrook got MVP's also but I still rather ball out with the K-I-Double D. Jason Kidd was another breed and it's sad you didn't watch him in his prime{I know you remember 2011..lol..King James remember}. Ask Dirk about Kidd or Nash...I bet he'll go for Jason and that BLING BLING{Ring} they won together
Nash all day. Nash was the master at pick n roll. Great passer. Played in the west. Went against CP3 and banged it out with him multiple times. Won 2 mvp's even thoe shaq deserved it. Nash was the better team player. He put others before him. A true team player and a true pg. Plus nash didnt beat his wife lmaooo *Yes, I'm petty*
Nash was a scorer. Kidd was known for scoring 0 points in an all star game. In today’s league if you’re a PG and can’t score you’re forgotten. Look at rondo, literally has been forgotten for the past 5 years but now everyone on his dick cause he’s on the Lakers.
kidds passing was UNREAL.. much better than nash and that says a lot. his defense was all time also. If you go back to the early 00's to mid 00's it was a known fact that kidd was far superior. nash was an amazing offensive player though.. i loved his game too
If you’re nostalgic and stuck in the old days, you’ll choose Kidd. And rightly so. If you’re mind is more flexible to the changes on how the game is played, then Nash is your man. And, again, rightly so. Either of them can carry a team, both of them can make their teammates better. Pierce is correct that Kidd can defend well in the switch all schemes today, but Nash will stretch the defense like only a Curry could. For the modern game? Sorry Paul, Nash is the choice. More than offense, defense requires the WHOLE team to function. That’s why Steph remains effective, not just a liability as some haters would perceive. Anyway, with these 2 HOFers, the argument goes either way. Win-win.
LOL, both played with Dirk, but JKidd Got chip though Dirk was in his Prime. On the hand, you have Nash, which had a Rookie Dirk LOL. I have to go with JKidd. LOL
So the one excuse you have for nash is shooting. You know that kidd retired 3rd all time in 3 point shots made? Now Jason Kidd is top 10 in 3 point shots made. Where is nash? You have no reason to pick nash over kidd.
Kid Canada still gets no love. Can't go wrong with either. 2 mvps in the west vs 2 straight finals in the east. The better shooter vs the better rebounder. Damn! Good luck with that one.
Kidd. People forget he led the Nets to 2 finals with no other all stars while Nash couldn't get to 1 finals with at least 1 other all NBA teamer with him (while I acknowledge that Nash played in a much tougher conference, it should also be mentioned that during his all NBA first team years, they always lost in the playoffs to a seed lower than them and never went to 7 games)
Jason Kidd definitely was a better all around player. The height, the defense, the objective assists.Yeah.... BUT.... NASH.... Steve Nash changed a franchise just by showing up. He was a better shooter; had more innovation when it came to assists (which can revitalize a waning morale); was a two time MVP; the BANE OF KOBE'S PLAYOFF RUNS... You gotta hand the title over to Nash.
More innovation when it came to assist lmfaooo broo are u stupid or dumb.. nobody in the last 20 years has had more innovation when it came to assist than j kidd.. nash has never even thrown it off the backboard in his whole career
Heres for changing a franchise nets 26-56 then j kidd shows up and pushes them to a #1 seed! 52-30.. bunch of role players around him... nash as great as he is had joe johnson, the matrix, and amare Stoudemire.. 3 all stars for countless years when he 1st showed up in phx and that team was already a playoff team the year prior.. and lets not talk about dantoni system which required no defensive play and boosted stats over other teams still stuck playing slow
Only a fool who knows nothing about basketball will say Steve Nash is better the Jason Kidd. Steve Nash a excellent player but Nash is a system player. Also Steve Nash and Jason Kidd were on the same team, Kidd was the starter Nash came off the bench. Jason Kidd is a supreme point guard can play both ends of the court.
Kidd was a better rebounder and defender. Nash was better at everything else. it's not close. I like how that Nets guy brings up what the Nets did when Kidd came along. Yet he fails to mention that when Nash went to the Suns, they had an EVEN BIGGER turnaround season. And everyone on the team was basically the same from the year before except Nash. They went from being one of the worst teams in the league (29-53) to be THE BEST team in the league (62-20). They got rid of Marbury and Penny and brought in Nash. That's how much better he was than those guys.
Skip Bayless this is why Stephen A. Smith says your a dummy and don't know shit about the game of basketball. Never ever never ever just naive denial and a big dummy from Oklahoma City. Believe that because history and facts don't lie. Game over. Bye Felecia.
This is legit a hard question to answer and can go so many directions. No one is truly wrong. Just don't go screaming that its J Kidd or Nash and that its not even close. All these ppl in the comments who do so, have no clue what they're talking about
Nash over Kidd, and here's why. In Kidd's favor, even though both he and Nash are probably 2 of the 5 greatest passers ever, Kidd was the more precise passer of the two; he's probably THE most precise passer ever frankly. Kidd was a much faster PG than Nash, and coupled with that precise passing, was a bit better on end-to-end rushes/fast breaks. Kidd was unquestionably stronger than Nash. There's no need comparing the two defensively, because they're at opposite ends of the spectrum. Nash probably had one of the worst physical make-ups for a defender, so no matter how hard he tried, he was never going to be a breakeven/+ defender. Kidd is amongst the All Time great defensive PG/guards in league history, with Jerry West, Walt Frazier, Alvin Robertson, Sidney Moncrief, Dennis Johnson, and Gary Payton. Kidd could probably play in any system, and of the two, would easily be the better option for a half-court offense; or in a big grind it out type of a game. Kidd was great for a very long time, pretty much from his rookie season about until some point with his return to Dallas. In Nash's favor, if Kidd was a more precise and stronger passer, he was the more creative passer of the two. While Kidd ran the fast break better, Nash's teams played at a higher overall tempo. If Kidd was really good at the tail end of his career, of swinging the ball around as opposed to being the lead passer, Nash's style of play promoted a lot of ball-movement throughout the line-up. Nash probed probably better than anyone, ever. While both Kidd and Nash were great at finding their teammates in spots they were most comfortable operating/shooting/etc, Nash was probably the better of the two at hitting their optimal and most efficient spots; actually, Nash might be the best ever at doing this. One example of this, would be Joe Johnson's lone season playing with Nash, where he had a .478 3P%! If Kidd's the better system PG, Nash WAS the system. It's no coincidence that up until a few years ago, Nash was in 9 of the top 20 offenses of All Time. While it took Nash a long time to become a great player (30 years old), he was a legitimately great PG in his 8 years with the SUNS, not to mention being a borderline All Star in his 4 previous seasons with the MAVS. Nash played at/near his MVP level for much of his second stint with the SUNS, so it wasn't just a 2-year thing. With Kidd, there's a honeymoon period with each team, with always tons of politicking in the background, problems, then the need to be moved. It happened in Dallas, Phoenix, New Jersey, Dallas again, some might say in New York with the Knicks, then with New Jersey (as coach) and finally with the Bucks. There's always something coming around the corner in regards to Kidd. I noticed that he actually mentioned Byron Scott in his HOF speech, and left out Lawrence Frank. Nash never had that kind of baggage, was a great teammate, was generally good with coaches, etc. Nash over Kidd.
MV G I go with Kidd mostly because Nash lacked defense . Nash was a better scorer but Kidd is the better all around player and great at managing the game and controlling the pace of the game . Kidd is what a pg is supposed to be , he made everyone better and carried a team with a real weak and young roster to two straight finals.
bibby42 Nash is a great player and did make his teammates better but he had a much better roster then Kidd. Kidd had a young Richard Jefferson way before his prime and Kenyon Martin. Nash was also a terrible defender. I would give Kidd the slight edge but it’s really close and I love both players so if you say Nash that’s fine I’m not looking for an argument there both great players I just think Kidd is the better all around basketball player
60 year old Kidd was able to defend Bryant, Durant, Westbrook, Lebron, and Wade in back to back to back playoff series in 2011. That's impressive.

Nash, especially in today’s game. 50/40/90 damn near every season and an insane assist to turnover ratio.
M0ebius so how many finals did Nash lead his team to? Never!
M0ebius, So Kidd can't help a good team to be a great team? lol
Kidd is also is a floor spacer as he is an efficient spot up 3pt shooter.
Jason Kidd lead the Nets to two consecutive finals and won in 2011. He also made the 2013 knicks great.

Kidd, but can’t go wrong with Nash either.

I know Kidd has more assists but I feel like Nash is a better passer in terms knowing exactly where I need to be what spot I like to shot at
Kidd is number 2 in 3 pointers all time man
RariGold Sounds like you describing Kidd.
Hunter Pence sure you can Nash is a liability
Im think Jason Kidd took his team to finals twice and won a ring. Played Better Defense made more pointers rebounds assists. Jason Kidd all day.
Put Nash in eastern conference and theyd make multiple finals aswell. Those Jersey teams would struggle to get the 8th seed in the west, while Nash was leading his team to 60 wins.
Kidd! Size, speed, IQ/Vision, and defense
@@MrRa32
And inefficiency...
Kidd, one of the most underrated NBA ever
Far from underrated. He had 2 shoes(better then MJ at the time)

Man Chiney is gorgeous, and I also agree with her, although Nash was a defensive liability his offensive game was supreme and would still be viable in today's game. They're both neck and neck tho.

Nash also made 3 all-star teams and 2 all-NBA teams before the "rule change."

Kidd, all day, everyday.... and twice on Sunday
I'd take nash hard choice though
I would go with JK. He is a triple double machine. And his triple double were nothing like Westbrook's, and those triple double actually helped the team to win games. And JK made his teammates better. Nash is really good Player, no one can compared to his shooting and passing skills. But if I have to choose one of them in my team, JK without a doubt.
Thunder win 82% of games Westbrook gets a TD. Stick to the topic, especially if you're going to talk nonsense.

HarpoSpoke and Nash was Kidd’s backup!
A thing of beauty to read man, spot on!
There is little context to this argument. The Mavs added Terry & Stackhouse after Nash left and Josh Howard became better. That argument alone is invalid
Jason Kidd, as much as I love nash he benefited from the system he was in. Jason Kidd all around more useful
Lol east was trash
The Suns would have made the Finals if not for some scandals as well as fluke plays like Ron Arrest buzzer beaters. Also Nash unlike Harden didnt choke in the Playoffs as he actually upped his efficiency and scoring.
For his career, Kidd shot the ball at 40%. Nash shot the three ball at 43%. Pierce needs to do more homework.
This is a cynical piece. It's meant to demean one players success and accomplishments. Steve Nash just got inducted to the HOF, however the priority is to create an unflattering narative of Nash, vs. congratulating and honoring great players? Slow news day?
Best post! MTV in particular would honor PP for dancing around what he was REALLY trying to get at.
Dave Court it’s just a fun interesting question though ):
Kyrie Irving said in an interview quoted Brad Stevens: "Comparison is the thief of joy." And that is exactly what is happening here. Both had their strengths, their weaknesses. For me I loved Jason Kidd, a bit biased yes because I was able to watch him more, but I'm not gonna bash Nash cause he was a great player and PG too
Dave Court it’s just comparing two players. Saying either one is better doesn’t diminish the other. For example if I say I would take Jordan over Lebron doesn’t mean I’m saying Lebron is a bad player or diminishing anything he did
I agree...
Kidd...good all around player.....Nash Great Passer and Shooter....regardless of who you choose....both are winners

"We had won 26 games in 2001 and then we went to the finals"
And? The Suns went from a 29 win team to a 61 win team when the Suns added Nash. Going to the finals in the Eastern Conference in the early 2000s was equivalent of making it to the 2nd round in the West.
"J Kidd is 3rd all time in made 3s"
As a Mavs fan, I find anyone claiming Kidd was a better shooter laughable.
Plus with the mvp argument let’s be for real now Nash probably deserved only one of those mvps and kidd was robbed an mvp in 2001-2002 so they should both have 1 each.
the eastern conference is still a joke
Jason Kidd was the better player and had the better career. Nash had 2 transformative years in Phoenix which won him 2 mvps.
Hahahahahaha are you serious?
JK was my favorite PG from his rookie year to the end(sad ending..but, I still luv him)
For one kidd is 6-5:and fast with Defense Nash could shoot better but I see yall forgot Nash had young Dirk and was traded for kidd
Kidd is 6'4".
He wasn't traded for Kidd the mavs didn't resign him and they even admitted to regretting it completely
Gimme Nash all day!
JKidd was the better defender all around player better reb.
@@drewmeyer9679 wasn't a better shooter
Kidd was a great player, but Nash was the anchor of a team that revolutionized how offenses should be run. Prior to the Suns running the D'antoni system, who would've thought that shooting a lot of 3s in a very fast paced gamed would win you a lot of games? The Warriors offense now is basically that Suns offense on steroids. It is sad how maligned Nash's reputation is and he doesn't get as much credit as he deserves.
Nash is the better choice
Troy Webster You don’t like defense? 😂
Ashley Parker #BlondeQueen You don't like shooting?😂
Jason kidd great defense held nash to 39 points and the suns won the game and it was nash who beat kidd off the dribble in ot and it was nash who made the 3 over kidd to send it into the first over time.
So yeah …….
kidd
You must he a 2000s baby. Steve nash a system player he was just a ok/good player in dallas and didnt get “great” until dantoni. Jason kidd was the system
Kidd was the better all around player. Kidd also went to the finals 3 times and won 1 title. Nash, no NBA finals appearances even when Phoenix had the best record.
Kidd was a terrible scorer, nash was a terrible defender.... Take ya pick
Clamente Dominguez I rather have a better defender
You rather have Tony Allen or Andre Roberson over James Harden?
Crypto Hoop that’s a dumb comparison they both have 0 offense Allen and Roberson. J Kidd offensively wasn’t that wayyyy off from Nash if you factor in running an offense efficiently. You comparing non all stars to the MVP
SuperPayy What about dennis rodman or Bill Russell for defence? Would that be a better alternative?
Crypto Hoop yea that’s better! But still Kidd was a 17-18 ppg and 10-12 apg guy in his prime so offensively he’s not that far from Nash. Even tho Nash’s offensive skill is better overall
Honestly , you can ' t go wrong with either one of them . Btw , it ' s the maybe the only I ' ve seen 50-50 opinions in the comment section
I love Nash but gotta go Kidd. The defense cannot be ignored
OMG
Steve Nash because he can pass and shoot.
You’re saying Nash can pass like Kidd can’t pass as well lmao
Monk Man that was the dumbest argument. You obviously don’t watch basketball. Like kid can’t shoot and pass? Absolutely laughable
@@nedbass1 who said Kidd can't shoot or pass ? You fucking dumbass. I'm saying Nash was better.
@@trvspvrk I didn't say that so stfu
@7digit Mafia kidd did not shoot better than Nash from mid range or really from 3 either. He developed his 3 more in his later years.
Prime Steve Nash was a 2 time MVP(no matter who should've won ahmm Kobe). I like Kidd, who couldn't shoot like that, but Nash was a monster.
And Shaq got robbed too
Kobe and Shaq
Kidd couldn't shoot like that but made more 3's than Steve Nash in his career
Reggie Jones yea but Steve Nash shot .428 and Jason Kidd .349 from 3. He shot 5700 3 pointers, Steve Nash only 4000. Had Steve Nash taken that many shots he would've blown Kidd out the water lol
@@willk008 but he didn't Kidd got more 3's and 2,000+ more assist no to mention rebounds and steals
The only advantage steve nash had was amare and 3 more scoring options
@@Coldskin1 If Steve Nash was a little less unselfish and took more shots, he would've been even better. He had good shooting percentage from 3 as well.
Steve Nash for sure. Nash is not only one of the best passers of all time, he's one of the best shooters of all time. He had multiple seasons of 50/40/90. Jason Kidd was trash at shooting. He got better when he got older but at that time he's out of his prime. Sure his defence is better but teams can hide nash if you give him multiple defenders like Steph Curry.
Also, Nash wasn't a wife beater.
Damn, had to throw that last line in there lol.
Kidd...and it aint close. Nash was the better shooter, but as passers theyre essentially equally & Kidd is FAR better defensively and in rebounding.
Would you take Lonzo over Curry? Lol because they're the identically lesser versions of the two
Mr triple double. Mr 2 straight finals. Mr. 2011🏆. Mr. Co Rookie of the Year with Sugar Hill. SSHoutz to the Whiz Kidd🏀💯
@@octopus8420 they aren't. Curry is a far better scorer than Lonzo & the gap between Lonzo & Curry defensively isn't as big as the once between Nash & Kidd.
In today's NBA Steve Nash would be cooking like Steph . How is this even a debate?
Kid made more 3 point shots than nash. Also Jason Kidd wob an NBA championship in today's NBA. How soon you forget how Kidd guarded Westbrook Kevin durant Kobe Bryant Le Bron James Chris Bosh and wade. Nash would get destroyed in today's NBA.
Watch some JK highlights and say "How is this even a debate". Nash got great but it took time. Him and Jermaine O'neal had bad seasons in their first couple of years. I don't know what got into Nash but he blew up with the Suns...but his career still ain't no match for the Kidd!!
list of guards with multiple MVPs ...GOAT, magic, Nash and Curry.
The END
James Harden & Westbrook got MVP's also but I still rather ball out with the K-I-Double D. Jason Kidd was another breed and it's sad you didn't watch him in his prime{I know you remember 2011..lol..King James remember}. Ask Dirk about Kidd or Nash...I bet he'll go for Jason and that BLING BLING{Ring} they won together
locknight Nash really does not deserve two mvps
Kidd has 4 NBA First Team defense
Nash all day. Nash was the master at pick n roll. Great passer. Played in the west. Went against CP3 and banged it out with him multiple times. Won 2 mvp's even thoe shaq deserved it. Nash was the better team player. He put others before him. A true team player and a true pg. Plus nash didnt beat his wife lmaooo *Yes, I'm petty*
Rocko Williams Agreed, Nash didn’t care about points. If he did, he’d probs average around 25.
@@TokyoBalletReprise yes and that what people seem to forget. He could've dropped 25 easily but he got his team involved more.
Nash was a scorer. Kidd was known for scoring 0 points in an all star game. In today’s league if you’re a PG and can’t score you’re forgotten. Look at rondo, literally has been forgotten for the past 5 years but now everyone on his dick cause he’s on the Lakers.
Ya'll bugging Jason Kidd over Steve Nash all day everyday.
Nash had a better shot I'll admit that tho.
Either of them over Paul Pierce..
Spend every team meeting talking about how great 08 was with that 1 ring
😂
kidds passing was UNREAL.. much better than nash and that says a lot. his defense was all time also.
Win-win.
LeBron actually shoots worst when guarded by curry ironically in the finals
Steve Nash has 2 MVPS, but J. Kidd has a championship 🤷🏽♂️
And which accolade represents the better player?
JKidd was not an all star in 2011
LOL, both played with Dirk, but JKidd Got chip though Dirk was in his Prime. On the hand, you have Nash, which had a Rookie Dirk LOL. I have to go with JKidd. LOL
Kidd went to 3 nba finals
Jason Kidd was a role player on the back end of his career when he won that ring. That cannot be used as an argument in this debate.
Nash. Nobody plays defense anymore.
Steve nash all day better shooter than kidd!! Kidd was actually really a bad shooter in his prime once he got old is when he developed a jump shot
Nash was terrible at defense while kidd was the best defending point guard
The same reason why you will pick Curry over Magic right? Stupidity...
Did u just compare Kidd and Magic. Do u realize Magic is a Top5 greatest of all time??
You do realize u need to get off whatever you are doing
So the one excuse you have for nash is shooting. You know that kidd retired 3rd all time in 3 point shots made? Now Jason Kidd is top 10 in 3 point shots made. Where is nash? You have no reason to pick nash over kidd.
kalinwang1 Fr
Kid Canada still gets no love. Can't go wrong with either. 2 mvps in the west vs 2 straight finals in the east. The better shooter vs the better rebounder. Damn! Good luck with that one.
Love Kidd. But Nash.
Suns fan here and I love Steve Nash but I think I give the edge to Kidd in their prime! Only because of his defense and rebounding precense
Kidd is the second best pg of all time he took a team of average players to the finals with passing, first is magic by the way
Jason kidd aint better than isiash or stock
Rare time pierce destroys the panel.
Jason kidd no doubt! Can you imagine a pointguard one-on-one lockdown Kobe,Durant or Lebron?J-Kidd did!
Keitron Wallace Yep, agreed.
Keitron Wallace Nash is also basically the creator of today’s game.
Nash easy, better 3 point shooter and facilitator of a true offense, Kidd thrived running up and down, but in half court he was a liability
Gimmie Nash all day
I like Jason Kidd better personally, but can't we just appreciate both or even appreciate one without tearing down the other?
Kidd better defender and rebounder. Nash 2x MVP better shooter and better passer. Nash is clearly the winner.
Skip Bayless this is why Stephen A. Smith says your a dummy and don't know shit about the game of basketball. Never ever never ever just naive denial and a big dummy from Oklahoma City. Believe that because history and facts don't lie. Game over. Bye Felecia.
Better passer? No.
This is legit a hard question to answer and can go so many directions. No one is truly wrong. Just don't go screaming that its J Kidd or Nash and that its not even close. All these ppl in the comments who do so, have no clue what they're talking about
Steve Nash no question
Nash over Kidd, and here's why.
In Kidd's favor, even though both he
and Nash are probably 2 of the 5 greatest passers ever, Kidd was the
more precise passer of the two; he's probably THE most precise passer
ever frankly. Kidd was a much faster PG than Nash, and coupled with
that precise passing, was a bit better on end-to-end rushes/fast
breaks. Kidd was unquestionably stronger than Nash. There's no need
comparing the two defensively, because they're at opposite ends of
the spectrum. Nash probably had one of the worst physical make-ups
for a defender, so no matter how hard he tried, he was never going to
be a breakeven/+ defender. Kidd is amongst the All Time great
defensive PG/guards in league history, with Jerry West, Walt Frazier,
Alvin Robertson, Sidney Moncrief, Dennis Johnson, and Gary Payton.
Kidd could probably play in any system, and of the two, would easily
be the better option for a half-court offense; or in a big grind it
out type of a game. Kidd was great for a very long time, pretty much
from his rookie season about until some point with his return to
Dallas.
In Nash's favor, if Kidd was a more
precise and stronger passer, he was the more creative passer of the
two. While Kidd ran the fast break better, Nash's teams played at a
higher overall tempo. If Kidd was really good at the tail end of his
career, of swinging the ball around as opposed to being the lead
passer, Nash's style of play promoted a lot of ball-movement
throughout the line-up. Nash probed probably better than anyone,
ever. While both Kidd and Nash were great at finding their teammates
in spots they were most comfortable operating/shooting/etc, Nash was
probably the better of the two at hitting their optimal and most
efficient spots; actually, Nash might be the best ever at doing this.
One example of this, would be Joe Johnson's lone season playing with
Nash, where he had a .478 3P%! If Kidd's the better system PG, Nash
WAS the system. It's no coincidence that up until a few years ago,
Nash was in 9 of the top 20 offenses of All Time. While it took Nash
a long time to become a great player (30 years old), he was a
legitimately great PG in his 8 years with the SUNS, not to mention
being a borderline All Star in his 4 previous seasons with the MAVS.
Nash played at/near his MVP level for much of his second stint with
the SUNS, so it wasn't just a 2-year thing.
With Kidd, there's a honeymoon period
with each team, with always tons of politicking in the background,
problems, then the need to be moved. It happened in Dallas, Phoenix,
New Jersey, Dallas again, some might say in New York with the Knicks,
then with New Jersey (as coach) and finally with the Bucks. There's
always something coming around the corner in regards to Kidd. I
noticed that he actually mentioned Byron Scott in his HOF speech, and
left out Lawrence Frank. Nash never had that kind of baggage, was a
great teammate, was generally good with coaches, etc.
Nash over Kidd.
Nash all the way. And im 35 yrs old. Better passer better shooter. Im a fan. But i aint mad at people who say JKidd
Right, it's like do you want a nice juicy burger or a nice juicy steak? Both are outstanding choices to start a team with.
Well, Kidd did that in a very weak Eastern Conference. IMO Nash made his entire roster better.
bibby42 Nash is a great player and did make his teammates better but he had a much better roster then Kidd.
The argument (for me) stops with Kidd's ability to win a championship with Dirk...That was an incredible feet...
Feat* but yes i agree 👍
Nash obviously,
