Thanks for this video. Unlike most "one-way" videos, which only show you how to dismantle, you show the re-assembly as well. I removed/cleaned my heatsink/heatpipe assembly without any assistance. But, if I ever need to dismantle it further, this will be invaluable.
Incredibly detailed, succinct and professional. With many of these videos containg a ridiculous amount of "chatty" commentary it was a relief to find yours. The reverse build is sure genious!! GREAT JOB. Thank You...I hope you continue uploading the same quality work in the future. :)
I am a normal mum on a budget and son's 7 year old laptop over heated and shut down. I followed this tutorial and it is now working and I feel like a genius, great tutorial, thank you SO much :-)
@Yukisho I would recommend Arctic Silver. Artic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)
I would suggest checking all of the cable connections, re-seating the memory, re-seating the CPU. Sometimes the heatsink will stick to the CPU, removing the heatsink, and cause it to become loose. Basically, if the laptop was working before, then there is most likely a loose connection somewhere.
I had to reset CMOS, it was a few more steps but the videos I found lacked narrative or narrator had a non American accent, by far this was the best at showing and explaining the teardown and reassembling, Thanks
There are a lot of steps but if I can follow them and still have a working laptop after even with my fat fingers I'd recommend everyone else to try. Good clear concise instructions...
Just one word.. awesome! I just happened to service each of my dell inspiron 1545 parts one by one rightly from start to finish with improvement in performance. A big thanks :)
If your fan is still functioning properly then the laptop may just need to be cleaned out of all the debris that build up over time. Often times you will find that a thorough cleaning and re application of thermal compound on the CPU will solve some overheating issues. Also try to keep your laptop off of cloth surfaces when it is running because the cloth will block the vents and prevent the system from cooling properly.
I heard of people baking the motherboards and that working occasionally and I've also heard about about a fuse that blows. Apparently the fuse a pretty simple soldering repair but I'm not exactly sure where the fuse is located. Replacing the motherboard is the only thing that I know will fix it for sure. If you wanted to send it to us my repair guys could check the fuse but it's not a guarantee that the fuse is the problem. We're good though so we would be able to tell you what the problem is.
@Arrohon I understand that removing all of the parts just to gain access to the CPU fan can be a bit tedious, however; I would recommend following the tutorial guide step by step to ensure you gain complete access to the CPU fan without potentially compromising any other components.
Thanks for this! My laptop fan busted and I took it to the repair shop and they wanted to charge me £80 to fix it...so I decided to do it myself. Found this tutorial and now I have a laptop with a working fan! Yay!
@chalocompean If the battery or AC adapter was left in while completing the repair, it is very probable that the video was blown. If you plug an external monitor in to the VGA port and are able to see the display and everything else is working properly, then that is a good indicator that the video was damaged during the repair and the motherboard needs to be replaced.
@lala123love It sounds like you might need to go ahead and replace you cooling fan. Thermal paste is applied in between the processor and the heat sink. Its purpose is to help properly dissipate the heat that is produced by the processor. I would recommend 'Arctic Silver' which you can find at our website.
Thanks for the answer! The thing is, im such an inexpert, and here it is SO expensive to take the laptop to clean the fan. I was looking for some tips to clean it myself.
Great video, really useful, my dell was running so hot and slow I thought I was going to have to buy a new one but this vid helped me solve the problem. Some have said they had issues after the rebuild so may I suggest you take pics of the cable routing and the connectors in place before you disassemble then you have something to look back at if you're not sure of something, I did and it went back together perfectly and worked first time, I also used another youtube vid to see how to replace the heat paste so now I have a cool running and better running laptop. Thanks again.
I also replaced the fan that is inside my laptop with this UA-cam video. The biggest challenge though was squeezing the video in beside the heat sink. Now all I hear is the video constantly playing over and over again. But it definitely cooled the laptop down, it must be the uploader's cool voice. :D
wow great video ,took my about 2 hours but i could change the fan in my girlfriend´s inspiron without paying a fortune for it ,very precise instructions and definitely idiot proof. Again thank you so much for making this video great job!!!!!!!
the things that hold the ribbon cables in place, the little black plastic things that you lift up to release the ribbon cables. what are those called and where can i buy replacement ones? cause i lost mine and have to keep the cables in with duct tape.
since I havent cleaned the fan since the day I first opened it from its box, so im wondering what do you think? is it I need to just clean out the fan or do I need to replace the fan?
It's a possible fan problem but I know these laptops have a video problem also, so in my opinion, it's probably going to be that. It's hard to say with out having it diagnosed though.
Im looking for where i can get this fan(new or gently used), im currently in germany so im looking to find something thats not in the us so i dont have to pay an arm and a leg just to fix my laptop. any ideas on where i might be able to find one?
I have this laptop and it will turn on and I can hear the fan start up at first but it sounds like it stops or gets really quiet and the laptop turns off by itself after about 7 or 8 seconds. Could this be an issue with the fan or something else? Also the screen is blank and never turns on during that time.
I have the exact laptop and yesterday it was working just fine then today I turn it on and it starts acting up it takes very long time for it to respond and get to the welcome screen I believe it has something to do with the fan since it wont spin for long after I turn 0n the laptop like I turn it on and it starts spinning then it will stop after 5 sec I went to best buy and they told me I would have to replace it I dont really want to go through that so I was thinking maybe I need to clean
Hey guys, I have the same computer and my fan makes a lot of noise like its touching the plastics parts that covers it. I think it might be because of the overheat over the passed years, it folded a bit because of the melting. Do you think it just needs a good cleaning or should i change it. and if i need to change it, i red all the comments and I dont know whats the thermal paste. Could you guys explain to me where it goes and how and when should i put it. Thanks a lot for your support
my dell inspiron 1545 seems to overheat a lot, like, a LOT! it sometimes becomes too hot to touch and shuts down, would you say the fan is what i need to replace? (like in the video?)
hello. when i followed all your steps..after i put my dell back together when i hit the power button i notice the power light turns on and same with the green light on the side where the cd/dvds would go i hear the fan starting up but after 10 seconds the laptop just turns off..i have taking it apart and double checked everything followed the video but i get the same thing. any ideas how to fix the problem?
I was SO into this, until you started to take almost everything off... im scared :(. I just need to clean the fan! Is there any simpler way to get to the fan without having to take all that off?! Thank you! :)
i got to the little power button tab and unplugged that, but the little board will not come out. i am working on a 1546 and it seems that there is either black plastic tape of some other thing holding the board in place. can i continue without removing the board? so, so close......
Hey Guys, great video, i followed all these steps, with close look on the motherboard, but my dell isn't turning on, nothing, not even the charging light, with and without charger and battery, what it can be?
@dellpartspeople i try what you told me..... nothing happens. Actually when i turn the lap top, the only thing that starts working is the fan and just for a few seconds. by the way thank you for replying. it doesn't even enter in the bios and the display remains off
hi i did follow the video to the letter, i didn't have to change the fan but clean it. it work again. My problem now it's that for some reason my lap top doesn't start. I can hear the fan working but the the windows never start and the display neither. can you help me? please i'm desperate
I don't see how it's a cpu fan if it's not on the cpu ? I also tried this and it was a pain in the ass so I abandoned mission and ended up breaking the fan..I was only going to clean it. my fan worked perfectly but it was just dusty...so now I have to replace it damn me !
I have followed the instruction, But when I have started my PC it works for 30 seconds and then shutdown, what do you suggest, Before it was working fine except the overheating issue.
I followed the instructions to a "T" but the new fan isn't spinning. Which is causing my laptop to overheat and shut off randomly. Can you tell me why the fan isn't spinning please?
+Aksum Princess It might not be plugged in all the way or the new fan may be broken. You gonna have to check the cable. If that doesn't work, you might have to replace the fan again to make sure the part wasn't defective.
any of you guys know where to get a replacement fan from? I got a fan with the same part number but it doesn't have grooves for the fans connector port like the original one does so doesn't fit.
Followed these instructions but now my laptop isn't turning on? I can hear the hard drive starting up, and a green light flashes on but nothing is showing up on the screen. Thinking I didn't plug something back in properly, any ideas? Thanks
I think you're on the right track. Go through the laptop and make sure everything is plugged in properly. From your description it sounds like the laptop is turning on but the screen isn't, so I would pay close attention to the LCD cables and make sure they're plugged in. That's probably where you will find your problem.
Thanks for this video. Unlike most "one-way" videos, which only show you how to dismantle, you show the re-assembly as well. I removed/cleaned my heatsink/heatpipe assembly without any assistance. But, if I ever need to dismantle it further, this will be invaluable.

El mejor tutorial de desmontaje y montaje de un Dell Inspiron 1545 que he visto jamás.
Enhorabuena y gracias por compartirlo.
cheers from Spain 😉😉

Amazing video! But the whole system of removing everything is absolutely insane! Why can't be there easy access to the fan??
Why is the one thing you are most likely to want to get to, the hardest thing to get to?
Damn you dell!
They slide up out of the connections. Try using a flat head screw driver and carefully pivoting up the sides until they come loose.
Make sure the memory is seated properly. Do you have any flashing lights or beeps?
I did not remove the CPU or the wireless card and the thing came apart fine. I believe its not necessary.
Excellent video, thank you.
Hey, thankyou very very much for this video. I had to replace a broken fan. Followed your video to the letter.
Brilliant !!!. Thanks again.
Great video! I would suggest replacing the thermal paste prior to reinstalling the heatsink.
@chalocompean If you are not receiving a display even on your external monitor then I would definitely look into replacing the motherboard.

Ill try a few more things to see if I can fix it. If I cant figure it out ill get back with ya. Thank you for all the help.
Thanks for this. I took everything apart and found that the rattling sound was just a small piece of plastic getting sucked up into the fan.
Thanks a lot, i change my CPU fan today, you saved about 50 $ for me, many thanks
Thanks for the answer! The thing is, im such an inexpert, and here it is SO expensive to take the laptop to clean the fan. I was looking for some tips to clean it myself.
@Crashtoob Sorry about that - I guess we missed that detail. We will keep it in mind for the next model.
I would go back through the laptop and make sure all of the cables and connections are seated properly.
It sounds like its turning on so I would double check the display cable. Maybe it loose or not seated properly.
Sure it's possible. It doesn't happen often but it is possible.
just replaced my fan... very useful guide. thumbs up!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing

:D
I'm surprised this did not mention or recommend applying fresh thermal paste to the heatsink / cpu if it is available.
Otherwise, great video!
Unfortunately in order to gain complete access to your fan you will need to do some dis-assembly.
wow great video ,took my about 2 hours but i could change the fan in my girlfriend´s inspiron without paying a fortune for it ,very precise instructions and definitely idiot proof. Again thank you so much for making this video great job!!!!!!!
Yea you can. You don't have to remove the power button board completely.
This was EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you so much! All thumbs up!
No I don't think it is necessary to completely remove the wireless card. You should be able to remove the motherboard with it still installed.
I never would have been able to do it without this video. Or maybe it would have taken me 5X as long. ;-)
the things that hold the ribbon cables in place, the little black plastic things that you lift up to release the ribbon cables. what are those called and where can i buy replacement ones? cause i lost mine and have to keep the cables in with duct tape.

What kind of thermal paste am I suppose to use? I got a new fan and it came with a tube of drg33
After Clearing Out Between The Fan And The little grates on The Heat Sinks, My CPU Heat Went FRom About 65 Degrees Celcius to 35 AWESOME
Many thanks, the explanation video is clear 👍

the only part that is broke to me, is the touchpad :-/
thumbs up!

Hey Guys, great video, i followed all these steps, with close look on the motherboard, but my dell isn't turning on, nothing, not even the charging light, with and without charger and battery, what it can be?
It could be a bad DC jack circuit board or the board might not be seated all the way.
Parts-People.Com, Inc Yeah, that was my problem, just a missing screw, thanks!
@dellpartspeople i try what you told me..... nothing happens. Actually when i turn the lap top, the only thing that starts working is the fan and just for a few seconds. by the way thank you for replying. it doesn't even enter in the bios and the display remains off
can you plz do the same for dell inspiron 1764 ??,
hi

Good job, dude!
that was helpful!
how do I disconnect the camera and display cables from the motherboard? It seems like they are stuck to it.
Is it absolutely necessary to remove the wiresless pci card? The screw on mine absolutely refuses to move.
Protip, if you're having a hard time pulling this stuff apart, make sure you have all the right screws out. That seemed to help me a bit >>
Uhg lol
Thanks a lot, it was helpful.
Thanks!!!
does this work for dell 1558 too?
Hi. Please how do I do a Bios reset on this laptop?
Search Ebay, maybe someone that is closer will have one.
Thanks a lot, you made my day :)
All of this just to clean a fan, way to go Dell.
I have followed the instruction, But when I have started my PC it works for 30 seconds and then shutdown, what do you suggest, Before it was working fine except the overheating issue.

thanks guys
The power light comes on, and occasionally the fan will spin a little
u safe my life
Is there a way to fix the video problem?
is there any liquid cpu coolers for a inspiron 1545
Garrett Duke I have not seen any liquid coolers for the 1545.
u are genius !
Tip: No need to remove laptop screen when only replacing/fixing the fan.
any of you guys know where to get a replacement fan from? I got a fan with the same part number but it doesn't have grooves for the fans connector port like the original one does so doesn't fit.
You can find them here. www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=7422

You have to remove the motherboard to get to the fan on the 1558. Here is a video for it. watch?v=LDmZOLu70Vg
Gr8 video.. but it need practice..
How does one remove the black and white wires ?
Hey I followed your instructions and now my laptop isn't turning on, only thing coming on is the light that shows the charger is plugged in.
Try reseating the power button cable under the power button cover. It's probably just a loose cable.
Is there anything you DIDN'T need to remove? I really don't think I trust myself to dissemble my computer to that extent.
@RyokotoInazuma The fan has nothing to do with what you're experiencing. Sounds like you have a virus of some sort. good luck.
seems like a lot of work, i dont want to risk breaking my laptop. think ill buy a usb cooling fan from ebay
in the end i replaced it XD its a lot easier than expected give it a bash guys
just replaced my fan and now it's not booting at all. I checked all my connections and they're fine.
