    I think that Ray really had an impact here. I think that his parents and brother are from here on all going to be less critical, call before dropping by, and Robert is sure to stop eating near the kids. Also, I think that the Barones are about to have an unspoken renovation between here, and when we next see them.

    I wonder why in many sitcoms the setting in the pilot looks different from the rest of the series.

    • @brittanyc.4540
      @brittanyc.4540 23 дні тому +11

      TV sitcoms often change the background setting from the pilot episode to later seasons for a few key reasons:
      1. Establishing the core setting: The pilot episode typically aims to introduce the main characters and their core living/working environment. As the show progresses, the writers and producers may decide that a different setting better suits the characters and story arcs.
      2. Expanding the world: Changing the setting allows the show to expand the world the characters inhabit. This can open up new storylines, introduce new characters, and make the overall setting feel more fleshed out and dynamic.
      3. Reflecting character growth: As the characters evolve over multiple seasons, the setting may change to better reflect their changing lives, relationships, and goals. A different setting can symbolize the characters' progression.
      4. Logistical concerns: Practical considerations like production costs, availability of filming locations, or the need for a more suitable set can also drive changes to the background setting between the pilot and later seasons.
      5. Creative freedom: Altering the setting provides writers and producers more creative freedom to experiment and develop the show in ways that may not have been apparent or feasible in the initial pilot concept.
      The shift in setting is often a strategic decision to keep the show feeling fresh, expand the narrative possibilities, and allow the characters to grow in a way that feels organic and meaningful to the audience over the long run.

      The other explanation was not even remotely correct. That's not why the pilots look different. The pilot is filmed on its own and then it's pitched to the networks. In other words, even after the pilot is filmed, they still don't know if the show is going to get approved by a network or end up on television. Most pilots end up sitting on a shelf forever. Because of that, the budget for the pilot set is usually very low. So, you often see a less elaborate and smaller set like the one in this video.
      Quite often, the pilot doesn't actually get picked up by the network for months or even a couple of years. In that interim, the original set built for the pilot has already been dismantled. Or when the network decides to take on the show, they make creative changes to everything, from the set to the actual characters. And, as mentioned above, there is now a bigger budget for the set now that it's on a network.
      Some examples:
      The pilot episode of Seinfeld: Elaine didn't exist. When the network picked up the show, the condition was that they add a female character.
      The pilot episode of Roseanne features a different actor playing DJ. The original actor wasn't gelling with the rest of the cast.
      The pilot episode of the Cosby Show: Claire was primarily depicted as a housewife and Sondra didn't exist. The network asked them to add a daughter in college and make Claire a full-time attorney. They also made the set more elaborate.

      A pilot is a standalone episode of a television series that is used to sell a show to a television network or other distributor. Also it can be broadcast to an audience for feedback regarding reception and further changes.

      This is especially evident in the episode where Robert gets promoted to lieutenant and Ray's book gets rejected from being published.
      Obviously Ray wasn't going to be too thrilled at that point so he walks away to cool off and then returns to properly congratulate Robert on the promotion.
      Then Robert gets petty by rubbing it in with a backhanded/sarcastic comment which Ray responded that he KNEW Robert was getting off on it and Robert was like, "yOu rUbBeD iT iN fOr fOrTy yEaRs hurrr."
      As if Ray is supposed to feel bad for being successful in life.

      One tbing that robert should have always thought about, is when ray spent 2 grand on a dog so he could relive his youth with a dog like he had as a kid. Sometimes ray does do insufferable things to robert but yeah ribert does have a tendency to blame ray for his life not working out like rays did with a wife and kids and his own house. We're all in control of our own destiny here

    • @twitteringothers5059
      @twitteringothers5059 23 дні тому

      First it is a tv character. Second, in this series getting pregnant with Robert was supposedly the reason Marie and Frank needed to get married - so this must have affected Robert somehow because he was an accident while Raymond was not. Thirdly, it seem that Marie does show favoritism towards Raymond, further adding to Robert's thinking that he was / is not wanted. Fourth, Raymond getting married with kids further and being a successful sports writer further adding to Robert's sense of being less.
      So it isn't just about fruit.
