Former 5-Star Lyft driver for 5 years: I stopped driving a while ago because it costs more money for the maintenance and gas than you make, regardless of how many hours you work. Thankfully I don’t solely rely on this for my income, so I just left it alone. It’s ridiculous and I’m glad these drivers are standing up for themselves. Even if they fixed it, I probably won’t do it again simply because it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to see the company getting rich while making their workforce suffer. I encourage every Uber and Lyft driver to request a ride to see how much customers are paying for these rides vs how much they earn as drivers. It’s WILD!
It's crazy to think that Uber cannot turn a profit. Their entire business model is using other peoples assets (vehicles) and resources (time), to make money. The drivers' assets depreciate - and uber is the one that profits. One driver told me Uber takes as much as 70%! of the fare.
The driver I had this evening said he would only get abo 4.00 of a 12.00 fare 15min ride. He did avoid the toll road & took the long way. I need to double check this but I get charged for the tolls up front I believe. The app even notified me that the driver was off route & asked if I was ok.
Uber executives and higher ups get a huge salary and bonus and thus don’t care for the company to make a profit. Think of it as a NONPROFIT organization. They all get paid and dont show a profit.
You are all missing the point. Uber is not trying to make a profit….yet. Every time you drive they are tracking you so when autonomous vehicles become a reality…that’s when they will “make money”. The company has never turned a profit. It’s all about data and data collection.

I am with Uber drivers on this one, use them everyday & I have noticed their discontent & hope this works out.for them & regular consumers...we are getting charged WAY TOO MUCH for the drivers not to be well compensated!!!

I quit driving for Uber one week ago after 22,400 rides and a 4.98 rating. They deactivated me on a false report. They will never get to question my integrity and character again. They did reactivate me, but the emotional stress and risks out there are absolutely not worth it.
Funny how Uber takes 40-45% of the total fair for doing nearly nothing except connect riders with the client. It really doesn't make sense when the driver does literally all the work and uses their OWN VEHICLE. No benefits either? Yeah right! I support the drivers.

We are not even close to 37 dollars an hour here in Dallas it is more like 15-22. On top of that 30-35% of our income goes back to our vehicle and expenses. Tolls, gas, maintenance, car washers etc...
It didn’t make sense that I paid $65 on a Uber ride in Orlando from Apopka to international airport and the driver only got paid $14 That’s really messed up man..
Too bad I didn't know about this. It's actually less than 50% on most rides. The other day I gave a ride to someone who asked me why he was paying almost $20 for a 10 minute ride. At the end I showed him my fare and it was $5.58 I'd be happy with 75% of the total fare. The thing is that Lyft and Uber keep adding and raising these fees that do not go to the drivers at all.
Your gross income may look okay at first doing ride sharing;however, Factoring all the expenses to keep your car moving to provide those services are way less than 37$ a hour.

No you are not penalized my acceptance rate went from 96% to 30% and I've never been happier. The problem is the inexperienced drivers take every trip and don't realize they are actually losing money.

I'm speaking for myself as a driver. The amount per hour ISN'T $37 an hour 😂😂🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ $15 -$16 on an average day in Tampa. I don't uber everyday. I've learned to do it Friday thru Sunday at night 9pm to about 2am. I'll average $300, in 2020 during covid I'd average $660 the same time and days. The opportunities they offer has decreased dramatically, also the gas incentives are none existing. I CAN SAY MY RIDES ARE USUALLY FRIENDLY & DO TIP MOST OF THE TIME. IF IT WASNT FOR THE TIPS, & MEETING NEW PEOPLE I WOULD'VE DEFINITELY STOP DRIVING. BUT I ENJOY THE GREAT ENERGY FROM MY RIDERS, HIGHER PAY IS NEEDED!!! I drive on occasion and I'm horrified at the pay. I took a passenger 28 miles and got paid $13. YES, THAT'S IT! Uber charged passenger $50!! How is that fair?? I pay for the fuel on top of that. It's criminal. Uber also announced that as of January 3rd they are no longer paying the driver the extra fuel surcharge. So basically $3.76 rides that take 20 minites are back. I do NOT accept rides under $5. My acceptance rating used to be in the high 90s and now it hovers in the 70% range. Otherwise youll NEVER make any money. DO NOT ACCEPT bad rides. They can no longer deactivate you for low acceptance rating. Uber got sued for that and lost. Pick and choose people and dont worry about status. They reduced the drivers pay but not their own. Just insane.

That's without factoring in high gas prices. I drive 12-hour shifts. Factors in high gas prices and the $78 to fill my tank up, and I have to fill it up every other day. So I make about $12.00 an hour or less.
I got a passenger less then 3 miles away, all of a sudden while I’m driving this person already in my car network is down. So I stopped and the Ryder said he will pay $40 , I asked him to ask for a Lyft again while his in my car already. Half way into my route he offered me $20. It’s sad I’ve would of gotten paid $5 on Lyft, they charge $40 and I get $5? You do the math. So many drivers are standing on hold for this rides, I tried the hub at the airport, when I got there there where almost 100 drivers on the waiting list, but if you drive into the airport with a ride, you get a passenger ASAP. No regard to the drivers waiting in line.
I don’t do Uber but I do work for another online platform where our rates have been reduced, it sucks. The companies take so much money already, and we are independent yet we can’t turn down jobs when we want to 9/10 times.

Drivers are who pay the cost of the vehicle, high gas prices and maintenance expenses, in some cases fines for parking to wait extra time for customers in areas not allowed, and worst of all the depreciation of the vehicle for the miles accumulated to the vehicle. Uber is acquiring a bad image and a very bad reputation by indiscriminately exploiting its drivers.
i did uberx for a few years but switched to food and grocery delivery, wayyy better, way less milage, no having to deal with random strangers in your car, uber takes way too much of each ride for it to be worth it.

Ummm...no. if you turn down a ride it goes against your metrics. Basically, you're punished. And they give you an estimate of the ride, with the tip. Meaning you can make less if they change the tip. And believe me I'm not making 37 an hour. If I were I would have a boat. Lyft is worse, but it still sucks.

Just start testing out uber as a driver. 2 days,8 trips, total $3.30 on tips,make $198 dollars, spend on fuel $91 .I was driving Cadillac Escalade .My answer to this.,is NOT worth it. I honestly recently tried driving for Uber after doing Uber eats in the past. First of all let me say I'm a very safe driver and don't mind lightly chatting with strangers. I did 6 rides and everyone said thank you with a smile when they got out, however... only 1 person left a tip. 1 out of 6. That's just ridiculous. I grew up in Northeast NJ and have spent plenty of time in NYC riding in taxicabs. Never have I ever not tipped the driver. That's like not tipping a waiter or waitress. The money you make for giving the ride is barely anything. I can't believe how cheap people are these days. When I did Uber eats almost everyone tipped something even if it wasn't much. Idk how it is that if you drive someone's food you get a tip, but if you drive that person around, no tip. No way I'm ever driving a person around for Uber again.
I used Uber one time when I got into my car accident to get home. Made sure to tip the man who picked me up well cause he let me load up my BMX bike in his car and I live in the middle of nowhere.
That’s weird because some people drive and only get a 1 in tips from people I try to tip. But if your driving your car to deliver food that’s not free and waiting for the food yet they make 4 dollars for all of that. That can’t be legal it just seems like they’re being taken advantage of or duped.

Well you can reject rides there is a penalty for that. Once you've rejected high of a percentage then you lose the visibility of seeing where the ride is to pick up and where the right is going to drop off. This is huge because you no longer have the ability to determine if the ride is worth it. For example let's say a ride is paying $12 and it says the pickup is 3 mi away. Will that 3 mi might be at the college football game that is letting out. If that's true, it's going to take 30 to 40 minutes just to pick the rider up and maybe get out or even longer. So you're working for 10 or $12 for almost an hour and you're driving your car. So you can't just reject at will. You have to be very picky when you rejecting rides or you risk losing the visibility of seeing where the rides are originating from and ending. So that's where their second point of the right drivers can see where their ride start and end is technically true sometimes but also a lie. If a driver has rejected too many rides they feel aren't worth the money that the rides pay, they no longer have the ability to see where the ride start and end.

Hello, I would like you to do an investigation on the uber company where passengers pay a huge fee and are paid approximately 55 at the airport and only the driver earns 15 and I can give more examples, you have to state that uber takes up to 70% of the payment and the drivers 30 on occasions is a robbery
As an Uber or Lyft driver you are considered a sub contractor and income is reported on a 1099, all of you know this going in. Subcontractors aren't eligible for the same benefits as if you were an employee. And as a subcontractor you set your own schedule so you do get time off, just not paid welcome to life as a business owner.
The problem is getting penalized if you don’t want to take a job. I don’t do Uber but I am also an IC / 1099 and we I don’t take the job when we are “on” then we get in trouble. I have certain clients I want to block, but can’t. But, the freedom overall, is worth it. However our rates also have been cut, like this man’s is what it sounds like. Which personally I think sucks. But I know - if I don’t like it - go make my own platform.

It seems like their driver appa have algorithms whete when you first start the pay is okay then slowly over time they will send you rides that have less pay and if you accept them they will send you more at a lower rate. Uber excuses itself by saying that it cannot pay drivers more for the payments it has to make to insurance companies, however Uber charges a weekly fee to drivers who want to take the insurance through the platform, in addition, on some trips Uber keeps 80% of the fee paid by the client. Drivers don't care about the useless points system, the only thing that matters to drivers as independent workers is the money that Uber puts in our pockets because we are who do the hard work. Uber has to remove the acceptance and cancellation rate, as independent workers we have the right to decide and choose the trips we want to do or not, it's unfair that Uber blocks drivers for refusing low-paid rides. Uber must change the way of payment and increase the payment to drivers on the rate paid by the customer to 80% since the vast majority of drivers are dissatisfied with how little Uber pays on the rate paid by the customer. Drivers are who pay the cost of the vehicle, high gas prices and maintenance expenses, in some cases fines for parking to wait extra time for customers in areas not allowed, and worst of all the depreciation of the vehicle for the miles accumulated to the vehicle. Uber is acquiring a bad image and a very bad reputation by indiscriminately exploiting its drivers.
i did uberx for a few years but switched to food and grocery delivery, wayyy better, way less milage, no having to deal with random strangers in your car, uber takes way too much of each ride for it to be worth it.

Ummm...no. if you turn down a ride it goes against your metrics. Basically, you're punished. And they give you an estimate of the ride, with the tip. Meaning you can make less if they change the tip. And believe me I'm not making 37 an hour. If I were I would have a boat. Lyft is worse, but it still sucks.

Just start testing out uber as a driver. 2 days,8 trips, total $3.30 on tips,make $198 dollars, spend on fuel $91 .I was driving Cadillac Escalade .My answer to this.,is NOT worth it. Plus uber take so much money from drivers, like 50%.And now I start understand customers when they pay $68 and the driver gives them $32 service.I was hoping for new platform that pays drivers 90% and leave uber in the dust because I'm just about deleting this app and move on.

They are coming back. They are basically car rental companies now. They let the drivers keep 💯 off the fares. And they charge them a weekly rate to rent the vehicles and they do the repairs.
There should be an alternative Apps like Uber and Lyft who pays fairly to the drivers - I use only taxes this year - no more rideshare for me

I honestly recently tried driving for Uber after doing Uber eats in the past. First of all let me say I'm a very safe driver and don't mind lightly chatting with strangers. I did 6 rides and everyone said thank you with a smile when they got out, however... only 1 person left a tip. 1 out of 6. That's just ridiculous. I grew up in Northeast NJ and have spent plenty of time in NYC riding in taxicabs. Never have I ever not tipped the driver. That's like not tipping a waiter or waitress. The money you make for giving the ride is barely anything. I can't believe how cheap people are these days. When I did Uber eats almost everyone tipped something even if it wasn't much. Idk how it is that if you drive someone's food you get a tip, but if you drive that person around, no tip. No way I'm ever driving a person around for Uber again.

That’s weird because some people drive and only get a 1 in tips from people I try to tip. But if your driving your car to deliver food that’s not free and waiting for the food yet they make 4 dollars for all of that. That can’t be legal it just seems like they’re being taken advantage of or duped.

Well you can reject rides there is a penalty for that. Once you've rejected high of a percentage then you lose the visibility of seeing where the ride is to pick up and where the right is going to drop off. This is huge because you no longer have the ability to determine if the ride is worth it. For example let's say a ride is paying $12 and it says the pickup is 3 mi away. Will that 3 mi might be at the college football game that is letting out. If that's true, it's going to take 30 to 40 minutes just to pick the rider up and maybe get out or even longer. So you're working for 10 or $12 for almost an hour and you're driving your car. So you can't just reject at will. You have to be very picky when you rejecting rides or you risk losing the visibility of seeing where the rides are originating from and ending. So that's where their second point of the right drivers can see where their ride start and end is technically true sometimes but also a lie. If a driver has rejected too many rides they feel aren't worth the money that the rides pay, they no longer have the ability to see where the ride start and end.
I get it but you can always get another job if your not happy with the one you got.

As an Uber or Lyft driver you are considered a sub contractor and income is reported on a 1099, all of you know this going in. Subcontractors aren't eligible for the same benefits as if you were an employee. And as a subcontractor you set your own schedule so you do get time off, just not paid welcome to life as a business owner.

The problem is getting penalized if you don’t want to take a job. I don’t do Uber but I am also an IC / 1099 and we I don’t take the job when we are “on” then we get in trouble. I have certain clients I want to block, but can’t. But, the freedom overall, is worth it. However our rates also have been cut, like this man’s is what it sounds like. Which personally I think sucks. But I know - if I don’t like it - go make my own platform.

It seems like their driver appa have algorithms whete when you first start the pay is okay then slowly over time they will send you rides that have less pay and if you accept them they will send you more at a lower rate. Its bullshit. Then they will not send you anything for a long period kf time and send you a trip at less than a dollar a mile and most people will accept it because theyve been sitting for 30 mins waiting on s trip

I have seen ride request of 40 miles and Uber days they will pay me 10.00 like who will be that desperate to take a ride for that little money like 40 miles that is is like 5 gallon of gas I have to use and gas now is 3.50 gallon so what I’m driving for free nope sorry Uber won’t happen and I see that you charge the passenger 3 or 4 times what you are paying me
