One of my favourite all time pieces of music and I’m a massive Billy Joel fan-seen him 3 times in Madison square garden whilst on holiday from Scotland! This is quite simply one of the most refreshing pieces of music I’ve heard in decades! Beautiful arrangement which enhances a classic melody and retains the musicality when improvising. Top notch,Absolutely superb! Massive salute to you right there sir! I could listen to this on repeat all day long! 1st class music from a 1st class musician.
I'm sure Billy Joel will feel very honored to hear such beauty infused into this ancient mega-hit of his, giving it brand new life and breath again. Great video... pleasing to the ears...pleasing to the eyes...pleasing to the emotions!
Man, that's a venue. Whoever did that space, kudos. I'm betting the acoustic environment isn't too shabby either, the conic ceiling might have some interesting effect. Although that is often difficult to discern just looking at a room, often I go into places, look at them beforehand, and am either shocked at how bad or how good they are. I can hear some of it through the mics but this close miced it is difficult to really get a feel. We had a large three or four person wide spiral stairway at a church I used to attend. It was cylindrical with hard plaster walls, three full stories tall. It was VERY live with a good long reverb time (not compared to a cathedral, but good). It was a ton of fun to sing in, in the round, which is a configuration I've always liked for the excellent ability to hear each part/every person.
Sometimes, you just can't have your past unify with your present. The girl you had lost sight of some thirty years ago in a previous life and which you just have met again, both of you aged, married, kids - she became two different persons, no matter (or maybe because of) how strong the feelings were, back in the times. Those impressions, old and new, just don't want to blend and one of them belong to the past, forever. With Jacob's arrangement of "Just the way you are", it is different for me. One of my favourite musicians from my past, from another and totally different life, seems to ... conflate with one of my present favourite musicians, and the outcome ... just feels right. Since Billy is still alive, this one is not Conditional II, but Future Tense: I think, Billy Joel will like it.
Nice arrangement. In the intro, the chord should be G/D to Dsus4, not D major. Also, for the first A section at 0:37 it should be a bar of Esus4 and a bar of E major. Overall very well done.
A new interpretation or arrangement is not an excuse for incorrectly playing an iconic intro or harmony. There are elements that can and should be changed - in fact, almost anything. But these specific examples would be poor choices.

Billy himself said it drives him crazy when piano players use a D major instead of the suspension chord in his composition.
