Opera Singer Reacts: The Greatest Jubilee || Bayonetta OST

- The fascination I have with turning what we perceive in modern culture as "good" into "evil" is very fun. Musically, it's also significant. Enjoyed visiting this piece, and hey! I hope you enjoyed hearing me do some singing too to get my point across.

This song and “you may call me father” are such classically inspired bangers from this game
You May Call Me Father is a religious experience.
The Greatest Jubilee is easily the greatest “God” theme in gaming imo
It’s crazy how this theme is so good it makes me tear up just from how amazing it is.
The angels have epic, heavenly but menacing music. Bayonetta has fantastic music throughout with a variety of genres.
So good to see you dipping into the Bayo franchise. Now we gotta react to “You may Call Me Father” and "Legend of Aesir", and even "Let's Dance Boys!" if we wanna be a little cheeky.
Can we talk about how much WORK the pianist is putting in at 14:15? lol
Definitely the best "Ok, now fight God" theme out there.
Bayonetta (mainly the first game) is unintentionally very subversive with regards to sexuality and religion. Bayonetta is literally fighting the cardinal virtues in this game. Yes she is hypersexualized, but she is also fighting a system of power that enforces purity culture. Her very birth is considered taboo: she is a social outcast and makes deals with demons. And yet she is not cast as a villain, but a chaotic neutral/chaotic good character and the angels are the ones stripping her of her agency by enforcing her to be part of the new creator Jubileus. The lovely soundtrack only complements this. As you pointed out, this track contains excerpts straight from Bach or Handel, and yet they always present a sense of unease as opposed to the jubilance we expect from church music.
I love this analysis soooo much-
Two things I wanted to mention:
1. At 6:50, they actually do interpolate a Christmas song- specifically Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and the line “Here we are, as in olden days”- referring to this once again being the culmination of the age-old conflict between God and Satan.
2. The last melody we hear before the song loops is One Of A Kind, Bayonetta’s leitmotif. Even when going up against GOD, Bayonetta has the last word. Which kinda foreshadows her ultimate true ability that you will discover in Bayonetta 3… but that would be spoilers. >.>
omg that is amazing how did i never notice that
Are you talking about the sin ritual?

I’m talking about her ability to defy those who attempt to impose their own perspective on the world, which allows her to nullify Singularity’s Re:confirm ability.
@@DreigonixThat's insane foreshadowing if that's intentional, and an amazing interpretation regardless if not
For me the last part is perhaps one of the most epic and majestic passages I've heard in a video game.
Mentioned this in my other comment, but the melody of that part is actually the line “Here we are, as in olden days” from Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, symbolizing that this is the culmination of the age-old conflict between God and Satan.
I dunno if it was intentional, but I choose to believe it was. >.>
I hope you give Bayonetta's "Blood and Darkness" a listen, it sounds so epic! I'm also heavily addicted to Bayonetta 3's "Moonlight Serenade", "Whispers of Destiny" and "Night Shadows Dancing". Heck, I hope you listen to the whole Bayonetta soundtrack!
I grew up with religious background even though i myself kind of an atheist at heart but my taste of music influenced a lot by religious elements, songs like these make my heart lighten up and feel as if being woken after long slumber and everything become brighter
Bayonetta 1 have some of the best music I ever heard in my life
Bayonetta is one of my favorite games and its so cool seeing you react to the great music this game has! Ty so much for an amazing video🥰
Ooooo okay this is the stars aligning in some kind of way! The other day I saw the scene where Baal Zebul from Bayo3 is singing and I thought it would be a great thing for you to react to, so I told myself I'd comment about it on the next video! Lo and behold, the next video is Bayontta! 👀 Coincidence, or fate?
mid 2014~ ish i was OBSESSED with this song, especially the section after the break (the "chorus") part
it still holds up amazingly
Love to finaly see some Bayonetta on the channel! This game series has some really amazing music in it and i would love to see you react to more of it, this one was super interesting already!
Also always love to hear to sing, i was never that interested Opera or classical music but you really have a way to hook my interest and make learning about it super fun~
Seeing people nerd out about the things their passionate about is always such a joy to watch
:)))
There are 3 songs from Bayonetta that I would like you to analyze and listen are Fertile Rondo, Night Shadows Dance, and Red and Black (Pachislot version) [Btw I think you'll LOVE Fertile Rondo]
I've never played Bayonetta, but I know that music is so good. My favourite is Legend of Aesir from Bayonetta 2 opening scene. It's so damn epic. Would love to see your reaction to more Bayonetta ost.
The crazy mix of Jazz and opera throughout the games is just so amazing... all of the boss themes are just so damn good!
Would love to see another Bayonetta video :)
Since you covered this, I suggest covering "You May Call Me Father" and "One of a Kind" too.
Also I will suggest "Aesir", "Glamor - In Charm and Allure" and "Valor - In Courage and Gallantry" from Bayonetta 2, while I'm at it.
One thing that this theme makes me love is how you can hear the lore of the trinity of realities in this piece. The mixing of angel and heaven or church like singing (paradiso), that demonic villainous quality you mention (inferno), and the meshing of the 2 creating this chaotic perilous feeling (world of chaos) of high stakes. I love Bayonetta and the music it brings, it truly is one of the best games of this genre style and is paired with some of the coolest music in gaming.
If you haven't listened to them already, I highly recommend the Guilty Gear franchise's soundtrack. It's a series of hard rock masterworks that's been going on for 24 years, with my personal standout favorites from it including "Meet Again," "Awe of She" (Guilty Gear X version, the XX version cuts part of the song), "Existence (Vocal)," "Babel Nose," "Liquor Bar and Drunkard," "Sky Should Be High," and "Sheep Will Sleep (If You Become Fatigued)."
Bayonetta has such a killer soundtrack.
hell yeah! Marco showing off his opera skills.
So with everything written in my other comment, I really think Marco should Let’s Play Bayonetta. Not only would it be cool to see his reaction to the story, but he could also dissect the game’s music, which has a lot of basis in classical, liturgical music.
Was watching your Ace Combat - Agnus Dei vid when I suddenly thought “wait, I wonder if he’s done The Greatest Jubilee” out of nowhere. What a pleasant surprise to see this video here too; thank you!
if you're trying to understand what they're saying, don't bother
it aint in latin, it's in enochian which is like supposedly the language of the angels taken from someone's journals back in the 16th century
And they brought it into the most sexy game of all time.
It's from Sir John Dee's, Queen Elizabeth I's court hermetist, journals on seances conducted with the help of scrier Edward Kelly, who supposedly could communicate with angels.
They both are the main antagonists of the first Nioh, among other pop culture appearances and references.
Apart from all the other bangers that have already been recommended in other comments, I would recommend "The Lumen Sage and Temperantia" and "Valor - In Courage and Gallantry".
Thank you for your reaction!
I was sing Messiah for 10 years too.
and still singing in Germany now.(Messiah is my favorite one !! )
this music remember me like a classic and Oratorio.
that's why I recommend you this music 😊
as church music singer 😉
12:29 that change in music hits me every time. I don't know what is it called but it's like finding a hidden turbo boost button and pressing it. Things just get 10 times more intense suddenly.
Paradiso - Graveyard of Rememberance is also a really great piece of music from Bayonetta.
It plays the first time you are in Paradiso, essentially Heaven.
It has this very religious feel but with incredibly eerie undertones. You feel that something isn't exactly right and Heavens greatness might not be so good afterall.
Bayonetta and its OST is such a unique trip. Glad more people are looking into Bayo 1, its a bit underrated imo.
If I might recommend additional Bayonetta tracks, "Glamor - In Charm and Allure" and "Valor - In Courage and Gallantry" are both very good Angels of Paradiso boss tracks. Alternatively, "Gomorrah - Devourer of the Divine" is a great track and was the first fight with one of the Demons of Inferno in the series.
This is my favorite final boss theme for all video game music!
I'm so glad you finally reacted to this! Watching you get hype when the music changed was funny. This song fits this fight so well and really captures the insane situation before you!
So glad to see someone appreciate this piece and put it in the same conversation of the great composers. Bayonetta music has that heavenly sound but with so much mix of goodness and tragic emotion that I adore in music. I think video game soundtracks like this should have a spot in a symphony hall too
I was watching this video almost 5 times now.
I fucking love it, that song is so epic, and your analysis is great too.
aaaaaah this is so cool! I was just looking for a reaction to Bayo's incredible themes and you surely delivered! This was a delight to watch, and I especially enjoyed the segment where you explained the historical context of the way the song is structured, I would never catch that sort of detail. Immediately suscribed and diving for more!
You probably have heard this a million times already, but you should really really react to Fertile Rondo, Baal Zebul's song: it's incredible, and I hear that the Japanese and English versions are actually two different styles of opera!.
And if you have the chance and it isn't too much of a departure from your usual videos, you should try to react to her actual introduction and "fighting" sequence! I am really curious about what insights a pro opera singer may have regarding her costume and gestures during performance, especially since Bayo tends to make references to ballet, opera and theatre with its demonic artifacts and creatures.
Again, thanks for a great video, and I'm gonna see more soon!
I’d love to see you react to “Sapientia - In The Choice Between Good and Evil” my favorite of the four cardinal virtues and “Gomorrah - Devourer of the Devine” one of the best boss battle soundtracks in Bayo 2. That said, I loved your analysis on this track. It’s one of my favorite final boss themes in gaming :)
It has been far too long since I've been here now. I've been really struggling with depression and have felt little drive to enjoy what I love... enjoying. This is one of those things. Funny thing is I was going to suggest The Greatest Jubilee and then I saw that you were already doing this. I knew it was so up your alley and it was nice to see you enjoying the song as much as I do. A great song from a great game with many other great songs. I wish I wasn't broke so I could get a Switch to play the other 2 games. I've listened to several Bayonetta 2 tracks and they are just as awesome. Welp, I guess I better get back to thinking what my suggestions are going to be now.
Hi King. Always happy to hear from you! Keep fighting the good fight.
"Blood and Darkness" and "One of a Kind" are also bangers but I feel that one should react to them in one video because the leitmotiff is used in most of those songs.
I'm slowly learning more about music from you; so thanks for the education. Also.. that pianist in the song went nuts too.
*waves a crane* Baack in ma day Marco only had two genshin vids uploaded and he put opera skits of him singing and it was glorious , looking forward for more of him singing.
More bayonetta please!
Yesss!!! Bayonetta is one of my most favorite games! Awesome breakdown of this song!
You probably get a billion requests these days but if you ever do another Gravity Rush song I'd love that💖
Bayonetta indeed has some sass. Didn't expect the in-depth analysis but it is quite informational and I will take mental notes.
"You may call me father" is such a beautiful song... Bayo 3 had some bangers, but the story ruined it for me. I'll stick forever to Bayo 1 and 2 and their songs
Thanks for reacting to this. To me, the best boss theme of the PS3 era, the fight itself is phenomenal as well. I hope someone recommends some great tracks from Bayonetta 2 and 3, nothing from these games really stuck to my ears as much as this and "You may call me father" from Bayonette 1.
Hi Mr. Meatball! You should seriously consider reacting to Fertile Rondo from Bayonetta 3! 😁
Hearing you speak of men and women voices being used for demons and angels respectively made me think of the Devil May Cry 3 song "Devils Never Cry".
It is basically Dante's theme, give it a listen when you have the time.
( Bayonetta ) You may call me father and One of a kind! (MUSIC) PLEASE! NEXT!😭
I was never interested in Bayonneta before, but now hearing this music....
Yeah, I think I've chanced my opinion!
Oh, you have no idea! Brace yourself for epicness!!!
and here I thought that Fertile Rondo would be the first bayonetta track of this channel 😆
this one is good also, similar to this one is You may call me father, and One of a kind.
12:05 sounds like the "though promises of perennial love yet sing here in my heart" part in Aria di Mezzo Carattere.
I totally loved that this video you made a thorough analysis of the song and you explained every detail. I adore all of Bayonetta's games. From Bayonetta 2, I recommend you "Alraune - Whisperer of Insanity" as it has the opposite vibe of this song because it is focused on a demonic feeling, not an angelical one like Jubileus. From Bayonetta 3 I strongly suggest you listen and make a video of "Fertile Rondo" an opera performance by Baal Zebul, it's totally insanse and I encourage you listen to both the English and Japanese versions, same song but different voice actresses/singers. I also recommend you listen to "Singularity - Definition", the final form of the final boss of the third game as this song shares the same choir from the video you made of Jena Anderson from Astral Chain.
Cool, breakdown. I have a Bayonetta "Jubileus" T-shirt. Among many other collectibles. 🙂
you have to listen to fertile rondo, moonlight seranade and mysterious destiny all from bayonetta. they are such A SLAY
Could you listen to A Grasping Truth from FE Radiant Dawn at some point?
Try reacting to Bayo version of Fly me to the Moon, I promise it's a bop
Nay the honor is all ours this soundtrack would love for you to give it a try
Damn boi! The goosebumps are kicking back in. Loved the first game. I can remember that the soundtrack was fantastic. And my wet controller was happy when I finally finished the game 😂
Edit :Good explanation, again 👍😘
Neo-baroque, I love that term so much. Video games have really nailed this aesthetic, mostly because of the overwhelming vibe of "dragon good, church bad" that so many games take, thinking it'd be a fresh take on good vs evil. Baroque music really nails that sense of divine intensity, so it's no surprise that video games use it's aesthetics when we're attacking and dethroning gods. (It also goes super well biblically accurate depictions of angels for the same horrifying and beautiful reasons)
I really like this song though, the major key moments remind us that Jubelius (the god we're fighting) was summoned as salvation in the eyes of those who worship Heaven and the angels.
I would love you to listen to Fertile Rondo and The Beginning of the End from Bayonetta 3. They are amazing.
Begging you to listen to Fertile Rondo from bayonetta 3, genuinely my favorite moment from the whole game
React on "Fly me to the moon" (Climax remix) from Bayonetta and "Tomorrow is mine" (Climax remix,of course) from Bayonetta 2 if you don't mind,Marco
Beside this boss theme, it's 3rd installment, Bayonetta 3 also have many great musics, like Sovereign of souls and Fertile Rondo (this one played while we played as an opera Demoness, perhaps you'll take a look at this)
Let's goooooo! Bayonetta! Love it funny enough I'm just about to start the 3rd game with my sister, great timing hahahahah. Anyways talking about the music in the game is just great, considering they make modern takes on old classic songs. For this it's a fitting thing considering in the first game Bayonetta fights angles, and with that classical religious modern twist, yes please. Long story short another banger game with a banger soundtrack, good food.
Please listen to fertile rondo, it’s an amazing song in bayonetta 3, both the English and Japanese sound different but they’re both absolutely equally amazing
this is so inspiring
you should listen to heroes 3 might and magic soundtrack esspecially to town themes
I love this track because Is evil, but not as the other 4 virtues, is more heavenly because your not fighting a demon, you're fighting a "God".
This the final boss theme?
*looks at corner*
Yup, final boss theme. The games definitely know how to be epic and sexy. Can even be emotional given the story of the second game. And, yes, love how the first game made angels the enemy.
I love when people that are professionals or trained in music look at Bayonetta’s music, it makes me very happy in my little Umbran heart 💜
You mean umbran
It's not about a game music, but about experience. Listen some Powerwolf music for yourself! (they got interesting vocalist and twins with guitars)
i was hoping that you'll react to bayonetta's boss musics!! please react to sapientia's theme its probably one of the best from the first game
Please listen to the Unfallen Theme / "From the Heart" from Endless Space 2, I would be very interested in your impression of it.
Hey Marco! Love your vids. Wondering how you feel about metal? If you were ever looking for another longer series to dive into, the Guilty Gear series has some absolute bangers with surprising emotional depth, especially Strive and XRD imo.
It’s great!
xd hello , im here to suggest some song again, maybe you have been asked this already but you may like the songs that brought sonic frontiers , from the open world music, cyberspace levels and the vocal tracks
once again, thanks for doing what you do and keep the good work
I'd probably watch you play bayonetta religiously
So, I’m sure others could probably dissect Bayonetta’s story and how the music relates to it better than I could, but I’ll toss my 2 cents in. (Disclaimer, I’ve only actually played Bayo 1 - I don’t have a Switch, so I haven’t played 2 or 3. So, I’m only going to focus on 1)
Boiling down the lore and themes as much as I can so that this comment isn’t a full essay, Bayonetta’s world is heavily based on classical European witchcraft lore and how it relates to Judeo-Christianity, with the odd fast-and-loose play here and there. Jubileus created the original universe, but due to an Armegeddon that I can’t recall, she was sundered into three parts, and reality was similarly sundered. Thus we get the Trinity of Realities - Paradiso (Light, Angels, Heaven, etc), Inferno (Darkness, Demons, Hell, etc), and the Human Realm (Life, Chaos, Humans, etc), with Purgatorio acting as an intermediary plane between the three. In the past, the forces of Paradiso and Inferno had human agents oversee and maintain balance in the human world - the Lumen Sages and the Umbran Witches. Blah blah blah, prophecy leading to upset of power and thus war, yadda yadda yadda, collapse of the two orders. Long story short, Bayonetta is one of the last Umbran Witches, who contracted with the demons of Inferno for dark power, and she fights the angels of Paradiso, who want her dead and are working to ressurect Jubileus in order to restore the original reality, but this will destroy the status quo human civilization is built upon.
As for the The Greatest Jubilee, your fighting the final boss of the game and, incomplete though she maybe, she’s still essentially God; so the liturgical neo-baroque theme for the music is definitely warranted. Add to that this battle is the apex of Bayonetta’s character arc - she regained her lost memories and finally understands the forces that were at play tht led to the Witch Hunts, and she now stands as the last obstacle to the Big Bad’s near-completed goal, to say nothing of her personally beef with said Big Bad; you can even hear Bayo’s personal stake in the battle with the reference to One of A Kind in this track.
you should listen to "we are as one" from bayo3, its pretty good
Always needed proper lyrics to the Song even if they were a made up language.
I just wanted to sing alone
Don´t know if you are interested, but I´d like to hear your opinion on ZREOs Twilight Symphony Overture, especially because of its state as "community content" that seeks to "extend" the original. My curiosity is about your thoughts on community content, as opposed to "official" or "classical", given your background. This one came to mind because of the choir used, but I guess many others could do.
Honestly, I feel it would do the music of the Bayonetta series more justice if you streamed yourself playing through the games and experienced the music that way
There is a lot of good Bayonetta music. I'd recommend listening to 'Fertile Rondo' from Bayonetta 3. That's got some pretty high note singing.
I need you to react to the opera song of Baal zebul (Bayonetta 3 Demon) "Fertile rondo" Both in English and Japanese that'd be amazing
Still hoping for C.L.U theme😁
I insist, you should react to "The call" from League of Legends, i'm pretty sure you will love it.
Hey Marco it'd be really great if you reacted to a song from brand new God of War: Ragnarok! It's called Blood Upon the Snow by Hozier
how do I recommend you some game ost ? I like how you react and describe game ost
and I want someone to react or give your thoughts about "Sundered" ost by Max LL
patreon predominantly.
hello Marco why your yt name is Marco MEATBALL i mean i enjoy eating meatballs too but u must be big fan of them
Hi, can you react to code vein ost? :D
You might enjoy Baal Zebul bossfight from Bayonetta 3 tho. And watch it too cause it's nuts.
Made in abyss osts reaction when?
Never
@@MarcoMeatball L
You should try reacting Baal zebul's song in bayonetta 3. You're going to like it.
Oh man I haven't played Bayonetta in ages, maybe it's time for a new run followed by 3
also
Day 116 of recommending Stay Gold from the Arknights OST
bro , i recommend an Arknights classic called " Requiem" it's extremely good you'll love it.
hi I know it's kid cartoon but can you react to Ursula Poor Unfortunate Souls?
No lol
ok lol
I'm truly disappointed with Bayonetta 3, however its' soundtrack didn't suffer from poor decisions.
Unfortunately angels no longer play a major part as enemies 😢 they only appear in few minor fights, as cameos basically.
React to shadow fight osts please ^^
You should listen to Sapientia, it's better than Greatest Jubilee imo
