Love love love the neckline on you. Bow no belt, Belt no bow. Pretty dress on a beautiful woman. Half sizes are shorter in the waist. Love the new fabric!
Just love this fabric and dress.... no belt is better in my humble opinion. In 1955 I was age 5 and I remember my grandmother sewing dresses for me with similar fabrics, though not a Disney print. It was also around that time she began teaching me to sew using her treadle Singer. Thanks also for stirring a memory. :)
It came out SO AWESOME and it is so adorable! It looks great on you and since we are a MAJOR Disney family, my girls would want this dress for sure (both adults now) to walk around Magic Kingdom matching. You did an excellent job on it and sooo fast! Love it 🥰
This dress is really cute, it turned out great. The fit and silhouette are perfect, and the print is just too cute. I don't know if I love the belt, I think if you really want another hit of the pink, having some kind of pop of the color near the pockets would be better. The belt just kind of overpowers the delicate touches of the pink at the sleeve hems and neckline, altough perhaps a narrower belt with a buckle would be cute. I bet there are cute Disney-themed belt buckles out there, and it looked like the vintage pattern was worn with a narrow self-belt, so it would be in keeping with the vintage spirit of the dress, even if it was in the constrasting pink color. Overall though, it's a great look, you're going to have so much fun wearing this at Disney.
That dress is so cute. I love how the pattern looks perfectly "normal" until you get up close and realize it's bambi! It makes so much more wearable in everyday.
"Argh GET OUT!" I actually shouted out loud when you told us the cost of the plaid lol. I can't get 10 yards for $35 in any kind of fabric up here in the frozen North.
I LOVE that Bambi fabric!! I wish I had seen when I had run up to Joanne's yesterday for some thread. XD Awesomeness on the plaid silk!! That's like my almost 6 yards of 60" wide mermaid fabric, which is usually about $20 a yard in my Joanne's, that I got for $9 total!! :D The pink fabric is sooo pretty!! Tip for getting out blood: Hydrogen peroxide. This tip was given to me at the dentist when I had wisdom tooth pulled & I spat out some blood & got myself. The dental nurse took some peroxide on a piece of gauze, dabbed at the blood stains & removed them! I find it's a good color safe bleach when I use it to spot treat whenever I'm out of stain stick/spray. YAY!! for no zippers needed!! :D That dress is just too CUTE!!
If I am not mistaken the thing that is causing the pulling in the arms is that your sleeve cap is too long. This is making the angle of the sleeve straight down which limits your range of motion. If you shorten just the sleeve cap a bit then it will bring up the angle of the sleeve just a bit and allow you to lift you arms a bit more.
That dress is so cute!!!! I must admit I don't know about the belt, maybe it's just a bit too wide? But other than that you look wonderful wearing that dress! Now about that plaid fabric. There is just something about plaid fabric that sets my heart on fire!!! It will be so wonderful when you make an 1850s dress! And that fabric reminded me that I have some purple/black/gray wool-ish plaid fabric in my stash which I want to make a winter dress out of. That's one more item on the "Future planned garments" list which is already rather long...
Yes, please share the making of ears! I would love to see some done in a manner other than hot glue. Also, I hope you’re ok and got a bandaid! Sewing pokes are no fun for sure.
You could make cool strips for your wrists. There’s a gardening gel that holds water. It helps in hot climates. Basically make a tube, but make a pocket. Add about a tsp and sew it in. Then soak. Put it in the fridge and cooling strip. If you make the ends longer you’ll have bows on your hands. I love the dress!!! Super cute!!!
What a lovely dress. Bambi and Thumper too. A definite winner. Thank you for the tip about blood on fabric. I have bled on almost everything I have made this year.
Much interested! Must see ears. The dress and the video was just so much fun. Though I do think the ribbon belt is ok and brings a young feel but I do like the dress without it too. The pink touches are just perfect for it.
Love the dress!! I like it with the belt. It dresses it up well. I would wear the belt when I was going out somewhere and then no belt when I was home wearing it as a house dress. Congrats on comparing it with the older style pattern and being able to make the adjustments to make it work. I'm not sure I would have the confidence to do that, so I really admire your willingness to just go for it!! Thanks so much!
I love the fit and shape of the dress! I'm not much of a Disney or pink bow kind of girl personally, but it looks so cute on you and suits your sweet and bubbly personality. Also, you inspired me to buy a belt even though I've spent most of my life trying to hide my waist (what waist? my inner critic cackles meanly, ahaha hahaha haha ha!).
@@lesleyharris525 yup, even when I was thinner I only wore a belt occasionally to hold up my pants. And then I'd put on a baggy shirt. My life has been full of baggy shirts.🙄
Glad to hear someone else say “just spit on it” to get your blood out. For tiny drops like that, on a large project with raw edges you don’t want to soak, and won’t be able to launder for some time to come - quilts - it really is the best option. Plus, you can deal with it without removing the whole pile of quilt you’re working on from your lap, and not risk forgetting to come back to it.
I have to say I think the dress looks far better without the belt. With it just cuts you in half. The rest is gorgeous though and the colours really suit you :)
I love that dress it's really cute I think the contrast hem is a great idea and bambi fabric isn't vintage either and I love that silk plaid what a bargain lucky you
I am finally watching this video, and oh man that pink contrast is so beautiful against your skin. I have been playing with the idea of making a "house dress" like this but wasn't sure how it would look on my body type but seeing how freaking cute this is on you I know I could totally do it too!
Love the dress, looks amazing. Husband and I both thought you didn’t need the belt, but the dress is darling. Also love your Thumper! You are inspiring me. Yes yes ears. Must see the ears. And I can’t wait for the 1910’s dress, I think I may have to have a go at that myself. As for your bolt of plaid, it sounded like silk, only silk sounds like that. Xxx
Detachable cuffs and collars wer quite common in the fourties and fifties, judging by how often they are mentioned in everyday-lifre scenes in fiction of the era. Tacking/basting them in was just what was done at the time, detachable pieces were tacked in place and removed for a differnt look, and laundering or to swap them out for other detachable piece in different colours and styles - it was part and parcel of the wearing and landering process (also, collars and cuffs could be shared between several different dresses for different looks).
I absolutely love your dress. I hope you share some video of you dressed up at Disneyland. We were supposed to go last November and it could be another year before we get to go too.
I’m jealous of how nice this turned out, I just made a similar simplicity vintage pattern and which had many issues-first being sizing mine didn’t turn out anywhere near this nice
Love this dress! Your style is #goals 😍 I’m wondering if you can do a video on how you find or keep track of vintage and vintage reproduction patterns? There’s so much to sort through!
Thank you! I don't really think there's enough there for a whole video. This is the first actual vintage pattern I've used, and the vintage repro patterns I get from Joann's like any other commercial pattern. I just tend to buy most of them right when they come out, so that I know I have it! I do use an app called Collections to keep track of what all patterns I have, though, which is very handy.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Oh ok, that's a handy sounding app! It's hard when you're looking for a specific silhouette and you don't know what's out there! Thanks for the reply!
The dress is really stunning. I think I like it better without the belt. Completely understand not going outside in the heat. Right now our temperature is 86 but with humidity it feels like 102!! Of course we had appointments and things to do outside today!!
Looking at that pattern makes me think you can make nearly any vintage or modern dress from those patterns. Once they are adjusted to fit you they can be modified to make anything. The gapping in the front can be adjusted at the shoulder seam a little. For some patterns the armsyche might be a little too low and raising the side seams could help. I am doing a lot of prep work, have the fabric, and just need a few pieces of equipment, then I am about to record my first video. I am going to focus on how a newbie designs patterns and sews them up.
That had me waggling my arms: the Sew Me Something Imogen top (what I'm wearing) snugs in nice and close to my pits! (Recommended for a flowy modern top, has raglan sleeves).
I'll have to check out that pattern. I've found a lot of modern patterns have huge arm holes for some reason and I'm always adjusting them to fit better. Thanks!
@@nataliestanchevski4628 I hope you like it! If you make it, don’t bother interfacing the placket bits, doesn’t need it (I’ve made it twice, left that interfacing off the second time).
LOL! As I watch this I'm cutting out a skirt for my 1950s outfit to go to Disneyland! The dress turned out adorable, and they did use novelty prints for dresses in the '50s. Usually on tween dresses
The dress is absolutely adorable, I do like the pink belt but have you considered doing a self belt? You could use it when you want to wear a belt and it would blend in and not really cut you in half like you were worried about with the pink one. Take care and stay safe!

Another cute and amazing dress! But I think the belt cuts the lines, it has a better flow without it. Really hoping for a ear video🙂 and that purple and green plad is amazing 💜💚 quick question, the dress you are wearing in the start, is there lace in the seam on the arm? Or a ruffle?
