I didn’t discover surfing until we moved back to Hawaii from Japan when I was 16. My step sisters took me out and I fell in love with the sport. Now that we moved back to Hawaii from the mainland I’ve been teaching my daughters to surf.

My dad and I used to go bodyboarding, that is way more simple and fun for beginers. It is basically surfing but you don't have to stand up on the board. I hope you try it one day!

Hey Joe, little surfing tips for you 1) When u paddling to a spot and u see a wave coming, try straightening ur arms on the board and lift the upper body, resting against it with Ur palms 2) You don't need to stand up on your first couple waves. Try to ride the wave in the position mentioned above to get the feel Small disclaimer above statements does not work with bigger waves (2meters+). Overall good video, good vibe.
You just need a bigger board with more float to start off with like a foamboard. Easier to paddle/stable and you will be less tired. Taito near ichinomiya is a better place to learn and way less crowded than shonen.
I'm still getting used to surfing and I've been doing it several times for the last 4 summers. It's very tiring but I've found that in the beginning starting in shallower water to allow you to run can help give you better momentum and practice in waves that have already broke will give you a better opportunity to learn to stand on the board. I'm still trying to learn to read the waves. Your doing great, I hope you continue 🤙

Watching this makes me realize how big the waves are here in sf, I’ve seen bigger mounds out in halfmoon bay ‘n shit. Not that that makes me want to surf, cause the ocean here is cold as fuck and even in the summer I wouldn’t want to go.
As someone that introduced a couple of friends to surfing Felix really should have stayed behind Joey, not surfing but giving him a push when ever the wave comes so Joey can get on the wave. I know pushing other people is not really enjoyable, but that's how you have to treat new surfers especially friends that you want to drag into surfing. Once they get up a couple of times they will have the incentive to keep going.
