We have a couple of farms that have been rewilded and the ragwort is rampant. So much for the pernicous weeds Act 1947. I have it in fields that have never seen it before.😡😡
You certainly know how to spoil a lady for her birthday.🙃 I often wonder how long back the "re wilding " lobby want to go.For hundreds of years we've Had productive farm land and managed forestry but they just want to let it all go "wild". My question is where does our food come from then.
I think the roadside let grow idea is just to save the money having to cut them. It has nothing to do with feeding/housing wildlife. Trouble is all the growth hides road signs, such as 50mph repeater signs. Now repeater signs are very handy as the actual speed sign can be hidden by parked vehicles etc.
Plenty of ragwort up here free to a good home (or even a bad one!) luckily were arable mostly around us and I’ve kept it at bay elsewhere. I nearly bought a tracked TW a few years ago but realised they are a pain 90% of the time. Even seen a lad use one on a trailer as it was the only one he had. Dropped the ramp and fed it off the ramp… looked horrible to work with 😬🤦♂
I’m over on the Suffolk coast in our static van and there is ragwort everywhere. The NT own some fields close to the site and they are smothered in ragwort, never seen them so bad, but the NT have decided to leave it now for the cinnabar moths. Unfortunately the seeds have now drifted over to the camp site and the pitches are now getting ragwort growing on them. The things seem to come up overnight. We’ve had our van there for 13 years and never seen ragwort on the site until now
If you pull ragworth you'll always leave a small bit of root for regrowth. But if you cut it with a clippers at the butt in wet weather the root will rot . It's a way better way and your plant numbers will go down every year.
The 2 fastest ways to bring rain... Cutting hay is #1 worst. Digging foundations or early framing work is #2. Both of these pale in comparison to washing and waxing one's vehicle to bring on precipitation. However, the best moments in life can be found awaiting otherwise sustained sunshine. Tell Mrs. P that your love for her is endless... just like the tracks and revenue that will be generated from that gently used tracked stump grinder. You're welcome! ;-)
Why do yhy have to mess with things when they where working . Like the new skeem with re wilding . Also years ago they usevto dredge the rivers and streams .but that got changed . Happy Belated Birthday to Mrs P . Lovly walk and thankyou for the lesson on ragwort . We have some lovly bushing yellow weed with all sorts of thorns . A real sword 🗡️ ⚔️ plant .looks lovly and oh so dangerouse . Need gloves . Take care .
35 plus years ago i worked on a large sheep beef and arable farm on wet day i was given a sythe and pointed in the direction of the apptly named thistle field 😮😮😢😢
there is no end of ragwort around my way this year. in the banking behind my house on the verges, and almost everywhere I go. fortunately there are no horses in the immediate area. reckon it is this "wilding" thing that some councils are doing just now. I am just typing this as you are talking about it on the video!
Learned a tip from Audiologist Associates called a turbo wiggle. They use it to get out stubborn ear blockages but it’s great to get out stubborn weeds as well. Wiggle those bad boys before yanking them up .
Your Golf swing needs improving. As you know, all of the verges around Bristol are covered in Ragwort, at least it will keep of the itinerants with Horses
We've got hundreds of ragwort on our sandhills as well as other lovelys that the insect would love but at least there in the right place, away from livestock
The ragwort is really bad this year. There is a cut through by where I live and there is loads of Ragwort growing on the path's edge. It looks a right bloody mess.
The weather apps and general forecasts this year have been at best inaccurate. We have one field for hay so it’s one shot, every app and forecast was only two fine days then wet two one wet et al, relying on those meant we kept delaying then seeing the actual weather end up as 6 continuous dry days so could have made hay. 🤬 have bitten bullet now and dropped the field and tedding fingers crossed will be baled in couple of days as heat predicted (like they’re gonna get that right). Ragwort on verges adjacent to us we pull and touch wood has been pretty sparse this year, our biggest issue is Himalayan Balsam, no mow may is an excuse for councils to save a few quid on maintenance but the verges they’re wilding aren’t attractive to pollinators or any small creatures so it’s just looking unkempt
Some nice shiny equipment in the shop there. I can see the allure of new gear calling. Nice restaurant review. I’m wishing I could go there. Once again, the bleedin ‘earts and artists just messin things up for everyone else, with the verges🤦♂
great video has always farmer p ian and Mrs p mother in law p Mikey mille baby pullen Sam emma Abbi and holli and miss biskit miss crumble miss gypsy miss pepper and miss pickle miss Muppet 👍
I had a friend whose husband was in charge of a gang that did all sorts of work on the M5 in the gloucester area. Every now and again they would get a call from a farmer who had spotted ragwort growing on the verges of the motorway and he would send out the men to go and pull it. Those days are long gone
Ian doing his best impression there of John Cleese with the Ragwort. All that was missing was the Austin 1100😂
The field at the top of our garden is just a field of yellow rag, I have started getting them pop up in my lawn now
Nice to see 👀 you both out for the day. Ragwort stands out like a bull dogs things. Shocking the amount you see in fields were animals are
Happy birthday to Mrs p hope you have a wonderful birthday 🎁 🎉🎉
Good morning Farmer P, good video!!!!!! we have here where I live so many Ragwort as that er people are in China

They’ve done a beautiful job on those hedges. I was impressed. Tidy!

Happy belated birthday Julie ❤🎉🎂🧁🎂🍷🍷
That should keep it at bay for a few weeks MR, P everything looks good with the fields.

For the last 8 years, I've pulled 100% of my Ragwort. This year I have more than I've ever seen, even on my gravel drive.

Ragwort , and what you say . Ian , totally agree . Banks & vergers . Yes , everywhere is rife with the stuff . But the do Gooders . Know better 😮
A very good Sunday evening to you all

Take care .
I agree with you on cutting verges trouble is councils are afraid of do gooders, in my opinion verges are better off being cut.
Yes East Devon has loads on the roadsides and on waste land. Take care.
Well said about ragwort they are everywhere

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Mrs P knows you inside out and takes what she can when she can not expecting to be spoilt
That reminded me of watching John Cleese beating 10 bells out of his car with a tree branch.

Interesting vblog 🎉 Thanks for the Hay Day event 🎉
28:49 great content again there seems to lots of rag weeds about this year

Excellent update!
The verges up here in Scotland are the same, full of ragwort.

Nothing says I love you like heavy plant.
The more seeds there are,the more weeds there will be

👀🙄🐾👍Squire Pullen Did you get planning permission for your canpsite?
Dexters are like the goats of cattle, they will eat anything?
😀
They don't want to graze when they know that you have leftover bales from last year
Some nice shiny equipment in the shop there. I can see the allure of new gear calling.

I’m sure all this “don’t cut the verges to help the wildlife” is just a reason to not cut them to save our cash-starved councils money!
Comment for engagement
I wouldn’t be surprised that you could get seeds blow in off the M5. It’s like the Yellow brick road at the moment. 😱
