Aaaaannndd I’m here after longlegs lol glad to hear something refreshing, iv been pretty bored with my own library recently, so hearing something new that’s actually good is amazing
Someone once put it best. No music gas nor gotten worse or better, it's just that with older music, the bad ones have faded into obscurity with time and been overshadowed by good ones like this, but since this era is still ongoing, there hasn't been enough time for that to happen, creating the illusion that music has gotten worse.
My dad was friends with a bartender who would give him all the 45s from his jukebox anytime there was an update. This is the one I played the most. I still have it (and many of the other 45s).
Arrived in New York City, New York, USA on the 9th of March 1972 from Europe, at age 18. Seems like WABC radio station (AM) played "Bang a Gong" by the Fabulous Rex Boys at least once every hour for the next 4 to 5 weeks. This is probably the best pop/rock songs ever recorded -- like ever. In the top 10, definitely.
@3:18 I love that they kept Howard Kaylan or Mark Volman's mistake in the backing vocals. You can hear a faint "oops!" They haven't made hit records like this in a long time. Perfect, sexy groove and a lot of fabulous attitude without overdoing it in Marc's lead vocal. Really great!
MY BALLS GO JINGLE JANGLE JINGLE WHEN I HEAR THE START UP OF THIS SONG....TO BAD WE COULDN'T GET USELESS LAZY COWARDLY NATO TROOPS TO DO THE SAME AND GO FIGHT IN THE UKRAINE AND HELP THE UKRAINIANS INSTEAD OF LAYING AROUND FARTING AND STINKING IN THIER LAZINESS AND SLEEPY DOZIENESS. WE HAVE 920,000 NATO TROOPS ON THE PAYROLL AND NOT ONE CA DO A F^%$#@GING THING AND GO FIGHT IN THE UKRAINE AGAINST THE RUSSIANS....NATO..... CHICKENSHIT BASTARDS ALL !!!
I first heard this song on a tv commercial back when "ronco" used to sell LPs of assorted artists by mail order... That was back in the early 70s... I must have been around 9 years old.
Whoo who, great music and great song. I just bet many children were born from great songs with rythm and movement, uh know what I mean. There were so many great bands when I discovered my parents record collection it was a good weekend and I was house sitting. Gotta say Dad always did like that Pioneer 200 watt per channel SX838 and the Hitachi record player that was next to it on soft rubber so it wouldn't jump around. And after playing that set of older records I fell in love with older music. So Mom and Dad have great taste after all. Wish music of 2023 had that kind of quality.
No I’m not clueless about Marc Bolan - Bang a Gong is fifty years old and is still played every day -Bang a Gong is probably one of the greatest Singles ever done- and Marc Bolan was genius- The original Rock Star that probably influenced the likes of David Bowie (His Pal) , The Beatles, Elton John, and countless others. I have heard it said that his talent was criminally underestimated and I believe that. (Check him out jammin with Elton John and Ringo… ) Marc Bolen even today - is way ahead of his time. So Telegram Sam!… I still listen to Raw Ramp all the time! Hope this clears it up!!
@@alniderstros7305 Marc Bolen, "even today".... IS DEAD, pal...! And the reason you seem clueless, IS **AGAIN,** he was *NOT* a "one hit wonder"... He had SEVERAL hits in his career!!!
@@theeouapolal7262 technically T. Rex _is_ a one hit wonder because this song was their only major hit in the US, but obviously that's not the case for other places in the world
This one will always be etched in stone, but I also dug the Power Station version back in the 80's. The "addicted to love" guy singing along with the guitar dude from Duran Duran backing him up. That was a pretty good take.
They were a one hit wonder band in USA (same as other glam rock acts) but not in the rest of the world. Maybe the US mainstream audience didn't like glam rock so much

Used to listen to this FAVORITE in my grandpa's combo auto/word working shop on a really bad - sawdusty 8-track player. It was on THE good tape - so we listened to it A LOT! Quirk I loved came to be referred to as the Alka Seltzer drop moment - in this version - at 2:21 ... What IS that! :)

This song should of been #1 in America! He died in 1977 at only 29 years old, 2 weeks before his 30th birthday! Such a tragic loss
Yes indeed, I wasn’t born ‘till 1980, but still, Marc Bolan did die awfully young! 🥺 No two ways ‘bout that.
Soooo good🎉
This was one of Bowie's favorite bands. So sexy. Both of them. I would love to have either one of them think of me this way.
I wasn't born yet but know good music
Hearing this in TV ads all the time made me hate this song. Now it's really grown on me
One of the coolest, sexiest songs ever written.
Absolutely
It's a song that every new generation can relate to

Indeed 🫶
I wouldn't say sexy but its definitely cool
Thank you, God, for letting me grow up with music like this.
god had zero to to w/ it but glad you like the music. On that, we agree.
I just took that priv unto myself, because I’ll do as I damn well please. 😈

They don't make MUSIC like this anymore ‼️Get It Bang A Gong ‼️❤️❤️🎼🎶Thank you Marc Bolan Rock On✌🏽❤️
Amazing that this song was recorded on the cheap and in less than a day in a cut-rate studio in Los Angeles, CA.
I hear they continued to play this song routinely throughout the 1980’s - on 80’s radio stations! I could see that. Advanced.
WE WISHING LEE HARKER A HAPPY BIETHDAY WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

An one hit wonder of the 70s - this their top ten hit in the USA (the only one to make the top 40 radio airplay). It make me wonder why?

Love this song and Electric Warrior. The Power Station's cover in 1985 is friggin outstanding. Anybody who hasn't heard that yet go check that out.
