The 2008 Alone in the Dark game is just way too ambitious for the horror game but poorly executed.
It was poorly executed, but some of those ideas were very fun. I'll be honest. I feel like they knew because they put in that skip level feature😂😂😂😂. I'm an Alone In the Dark fan, and I've played all except the really bad one and the soft remake of the first. For some reason I still enjoy the 2008 game😂😂😂
I dunno where I was going with that previous comment 😂😂
I shall ahh... ahhh hmmm. Take my leave😂😂
It had amazing potential just poorly executed because of too many ideas and styles mixed in. They should've kept it simple in terms of the combat and camera perspective. The realistic style inventory was interesting, but everything else was wack. The driving sections were horrible and the story wasn't worth it when the only 2 endings were basically "bad" even if good for laughs.
Nice to see another BK4 viewer here lol.
New Nightmare and the 2024 reboot are the only two games from the series that I enjoyed and even then, they still fall short of my all-time favorite horror games. Alone in the Dark has so much potential, but the developers have yet to reach it. I really did enjoy the 2024 game and want to hope that it will help the franchise, but judging from its overall reception so far, I doubt it.
I think the 2024 game laid a solid enough foundation in reviving and bringing the series forward. It plays very much like a game from the early to late 2000s with modern graphics and 3rd person OTS. It's far from a masterpiece, but has reasonable cult status material for the coming years after. Unlike the 2001 reboot, this 2024 game is very faithful to the 1992 original (plus trilogy) in spirit, essence and flavor. There aren't many adventure horror games out there with an early 1900s setting, and that will be Alone in the Dark 2024's biggest strength and attraction. Also helps it's in 3rd person OTS, something most Call of Cthulhu themed games are NOT. So far, only The Sinking City (which is getting an unexpected sequel) is the only other Lovecraftian themed game I can recall that is in 3rd person OTS.
If The Sinking City is getting a sequel, despite getting review scores in 2019 so similar to that of Alone in the Dark 2024, then I don't see why the latter can't get a follow up game itself. It all depends on sales performance and a sales tally of 1-2 million could guarantee a sequel in a few years. Since the game is also AA, and didn't cost much to make unlike a certain The Callisto Protocol ($162 million budget cost).
My personal rating for each games
Alone in the Dark: Illumination (2/10)
Alone in the Dark 2008 (2/10)
Alone in the Dark 2 (6/10)
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (7/10)
Alone in the Dark 1992 (7/10)
Alone in the Dark 2024 (7/10)
Alone in the Dark 3 (Not played)
For me...
Alone in the Dark : The New Nightmare (7/10)
Alone in the Dark 2008 (2/10)
Alone in the Dark 2024 (8/10)
Some series I'd recommend ranking:
- Panzer Dragoon
- Legacy of Kain
- Oddworld
Oddworld, for sure.
I've completed New Nightmare 6 times (4 Edward, 2 Aline), and it's no doubt a very fun and underrated game. Managed 1 finish for the 2008 game, and it's a jumbled and frustrating mess in it's overall gameplay design. Such a shame because the story, setting & atmosphere was quite engaging even if the only 2 endings are somewhat bad. I've finished the 2024 game 3 times so far (2 Edward, 1 Emily), and it's by far the most fun Alone in the Dark game I've played, despite it's glaring flaws. The game itself has 5 endings (2 normal, 3 secret).
Which version of New Nightmare did you play?
@@hemangchauhan2864 GOG or PC port version.
I'm proud my country created this series.
Fun fact: Frédérick Raynal, the creator of the original Alone in the Dark (1992) used to live near my hometown in the center of France (in Brives La Gaillarde). Just like Michel Ancel, he received La légion d'honneur for pretty much creating the survival-horror genre.
In the end, the 2008 Alone in the Dark game was the last French-made entry of the series.
That's just superb! I am no expert as horror games I think the scariest game I played was the evil within.
New nightmare is actually scarier than any of the resident evil games it deserves a remake definitely
Yes, the part when edward trapt in the experiment room was really terrifying. And the aline when did run-cat mouse catched with the monster was drive you to corner.
It would sell well im 90% sure
The New Nightmare is a solid game but it goes downhill in the second to third act.
Still the best game of the franchise though.
The New Nightmare is also my favorite one. And I think Resident Evil 2 sceneries suck ass in compare with TNN variety. Thanks for the video
Hi Totally Tubular Jonathan I Hope This Game Series Will Continue To Make More Games In The Future
Alone in the Dark 2 and 3 are incredible.
Even though the new game got mid reviews, I still wanna check it out
I started playing the new game last night and so far it’s good
24:51 If THQ Nordic remastered this game it would be a winner surely 😊
I started playing the 2024 remake and coming from someone who has never played any of the games. I really enjoyed the game so far and would give it 8/10 from what I’ve played
I love alone in the dark!
I haven't yet played the new one, it does looks good. For me, The New Nightmare was/is still brillant. Remember playing it on the Dreamcast back in the day, great game. The New Nightmare is currently my favourite of the series, the new one has a lot to do to capture the greatness of that game.
Totally Tubular video Jonathan! Quick question, some of your shark movie reviews seem to be missing? Did they get taken down due to copyright or something?
Which ones in particular are you looking for?
@@TotallyTubularJonathan For example, you have a review of 47 Meters Down: Uncaged up, but I'm not seeing one for the first film?
hmmm, it should be in the Shark Scale Playlist, UA-cam was funky with that one in particular and went after me for it
12:00 I wonder if it would get a remaster where the menus and clunky bits can be modernised
21:36 Ooh nice Eclipse 😯😯
23:30 I remember playing this as a kid when it came out, couldn't even get past the first level 😂😂
Which version of New Nightmare did you play?
PC, Dreamcast, PS1 or PS2?
Dreamcast 4 life
Is it dark enough to counter my "keep the flashlight off in case it alerts enemies" habit?
There is a game where I'll turn the flashlight on to fight but then immediately switch it back off.
Have you tried 2Dark from Frédérick Raynal the creator of the original game? It's good. Because for 2 and 3 they were from Bruno Bonnel mostly because Frederick got fired from Indogramme if I'm right.
“And no we’re not talking about my sex life” 💀💀💀 I legitimately DIED bro 😂
10:09 So number 3 puts back in what the second was missing. Mad how the first is still better than the two sequels 😅
I love the 2008 version but New Nightmare is my favorite 💚💚The 2008 one is very not good but I still enjoy it. The plot was terrible and I feel like I have amnesia on the story because it was boringggg. Great meme game😂😂😂😂😂.
New Nightmares currently on PSN
Alone in The Dark when Together in The Light walks in
"Alone" dude. ;)
What (legal) platform do you recommend this on? A New Nightmare is actually on PSN for PS4, but I happen to have the Dreamcast version and never got around to playing it! D:
I’ve always played dreamcast! Love that version!
@@TotallyTubularJonathan NICE! Thanks for that tip!
I shouldn't have said I haven't "played" it but I think I only got about an hour into it. There was a scene where monsters were all over the screen when lightning flashed but were then invisible again and I was really impressed! It was ages ago, but when I get my DC hooked up again I'll be excited to pop this in! Thanks for making the vid!
I love it when people say it’s a double A game but they are charging 60 plus for it
You should do a ranking video of best zombie games for Halloween
22:00 Oh this is on the PS1? Damn the graphics are mentally good! 😮😮
I get it's the most accessible least janky of the series, but god damn New Nightmare has a serious fan following. No hate, I love the game, just always surprised how much love it gets. It's dropped the 20s setting and the tongue in cheek elements that made the first 3 what they were and I do think it's more generic than anything else.
Like I do really enjoy it, but it more than any other Alone just feels like it's trying to be Resident Evil to me (specifically the RE remake). I dunno, I'd much rather janky but interesting ideas and/or the 1920s setting and slightly goofy edge over a game that, to me, just feels like the definition of 'standard survival horror game'. But I also absolutely get why it's more popular than a lot of them, it's definitely the least strange and most accessible relatively speaking. But then, that's because it's kind of generic...
I didn’t get the reception for the newest game. I enjoyed it. Enough to play through it 3 times in succession to get the majority of the non-broken trophies.
It’s far from perfect but the atmosphere and locations are fantastic, great music, interesting lore and characters. It’s just a shame the combat is so bad as it lets down everything else that is so damn good
Can you raking all hary potter movies?
Hello
👊
thank you very much!
Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare the best game in the series.
I WILL PLAY ALONE IN THE DARK 2008 ON PS2 AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME (and for real i will buy it becouse i enjoy bad games and AiTD 2024 is very liniar and my priority is some horror ps2 games like fatal frame/project zero silent hill (if i will have money) and other not well known titles). Prob gonna buy 2024 but on christmas? Mabye? I don't know. If Alone in The Dark want to have come back it needs a NEW STRONG GAME and don't get me wrong 2024 is not a bad game but it's not great compared to RE Remakes or RE8 or something like that. O I REMEMBER the new AiTD 2024 is like RE+TEW+liniar story (by liniar i mean when you need to go upstairs every door is locked.
1:49 ROTFL
New nightmare just came to PS5
Uwe boll should've stick with writing and directing comedy movies instead horror games and movies what he should've done long ago in my personal opinion. So uwe boll should "NOT" be making horror movies because these games, #7,6,5, and 4 is not a horror games.
Damn bro forgot the actual best Alone in the Dark game.
Jack in the dark... Smh
