- The Chakan Gaan Ngai festival is more than just a celebration of music and dance. It is a time for the Rongmei (Kabui) people to express their gratitude for the blessings they have received and to pray for a prosperous future. It is also an opportunity for the community to come together and strengthen their bonds of unity and solidarity. The production of new fire on the first day of the festival is an important ritual that symbolizes the start of a new year. The fire is produced by rubbing dry wood and split bamboo pieces together, and it is distributed to every household in the community. The new fire represents the cleansing of the old year and the beginning of a new, fresh start. The Gaan Ngai festival is a rich and vibrant celebration of culture and tradition that is deeply meaningful for the Rongmei people. It is a time for the community to come together and celebrate their way of life, and to honor the gods and their ancestors. It is a celebration of unity, peace, and prosperity, and a time to look forward to a bright and hopeful future. In Nagaland, Namgalong & Ragailong have collaborated to mark the festival from 23rd to 25 January, 2024.

Rongmei should stop using Kabui as this is confusing everyone. The real Kabuis are Inpuis. Kabui was the term referring to Inpui. The Inpuis still calls themselves Kabui. The Rongmeis took on the Kabui identity. This is a historical fact. Kabui Salang Maiba is Inpui too. Read Kabui history written by Inpuis and not Rongmei. Thank you
