    I just recently had two small colonies showing signs of slow recession. I pulled them out and dipped them in Brightwell Koral MD. Upon dipping them i noticed a layer of bacteria that blew off that was all along the base, under the Polyps. I was shocked to see how much came off. The next day they had completely opened up after a month of struggling. I was also told by another YT reefer to use a one part hydrogen peroxide with tank water, but I get a little nervous using the HP. Also, I know some people may say that this is bad, but I feed my acans almost every day. I wish you all the luck my friend! The one coral in my tank that I’ve been struggling with is a chalice coral. Not too sure what species it is, but I swear I’ve seen some bristle worms chewy chomping it at night. Great tank and video! I just subscribed.

      Appreciate it David! 🙏 looks like there are some vendors up here in Canada that carry Koral MD. I just ordered some Polyplabs Reef Primer, if that doesn't work I'll give Koral MD a try. I like Brightwell products. 😀

    Also one other thing that helped me. I started dosing acro power slowly, 6 microliters/min with the Versa pump. Dosing acro power slowly over a constant period of time helped a ton instead of dosing acro power every few days or once a week.

    I've had receding acans. The fix for me was to move them to another tank. This particular tank was a carbon dosed tank with T5 that did the trick for them. Jake Adams video on sponges was with a duncan colony. He uses a water toothpick thingy. :)

    • @uffnstuff
      @uffnstuff 3 роки тому +1

      I would say the acans are hungry. Usually slow recession is starvation. I feed my whole tank small pellets every day and I make sure the lps get some. I see feeders out also possibly also a sign of being hungry. Do you have a decent amount of snails and hermits in the tank? They help with the nutrients balance. They eaT the algae faster. Than it can grow. Keep dosing daily and testing to make sure your ratio is good. It took me almost a year to get everything in line. I had dinos, cyano so bad it killed half my corals. Idk if you can but I eliminated most of my red and green spectrum and bumped everything else up seemed to help with the algae and coral coloration. Maybe a kalk solution injected in the sponge would work. Idk but its looking good my man.

That reminds me I better pick more up. I like the blue legged hermit crabs ever since I saw Billy pipes' video about them. Any particular crabs you like? 🤔

    Most sponges grow under your rock or any structure where it is dark and a lot in the sumps and filtration areas.My AIO tank has a ton of sponges and remnants of them in every tank I have had in the back filtration areas . They usually don’t bother any corals and only visible in shadows. I have heard people using specific animals (fish & invertebrates) that eat them but don’t know if those guys are reef safe. I think you can’t find much on them is that they are generally accepted as inevitable and not harmful.

    • @TheReeferYT
      @TheReeferYT  3 роки тому

      Thanks for checking out the video and your input Garry. 🙏 I like sponges, however my concern with this one is that it seems to spread really quickly.
      I don't want it to get on my frags that I sell.. 😬 I've considered picking up some angels for the 140g, but that would only control it in that tank and not the frag tank. 🤔 Thanks again!

    Nice corals and beautiful frag tank. I had the same issue with sponges. I finally broke down my sump where they were multiple. I didn't have them in my coral or rocks. They were in my skimmer and sump. Some were in my reef ready filter intake. They love silcate and nutrients. They say they good for filtering water. I could smell them and I think they in my pvc. If I see them in sump. I have to replace the pvc. But I don't see them yet.. I heard eXit by Salifert works. But I never tried it. Not sure this will help your acans. Try adding a diffuse on your lights. Reef Breeders lights might be giving to much a disco ball hot spot on them. I don't have much experience on them I'm crazy for sticks SPS. I enjoyed your video and will watch your other videos. Good luck thanks for sharing.

    I wouldn't worry about the sponge I had a heap in my tank and it's slowly going away. With the acans I would be target feeding the sick ones as often as possible. If the rest of your acans are doing well then don't go making changes for one or 2 corals.

    Try an antibiotic dip. Buy some fish amoxicillin. Break open two capsules into a small bucket of water, just large enough for a colony. Dip the colony for 5-10 mins. Just try one colony at first, make sure the process isn’t too rough for it. I have had success with this method WHEN it actually is bacteria (it’s not always bacteria, maybe the tank has another issue)

    • @AaronHendu
      @AaronHendu 3 роки тому

      @@TheReeferYT From what I understand, those tiny white shells are pretty typical to see in a reef tank and are nothing to worry about and aren't Vermetid snails. I had one vermetid snail come on one of my frags, so I just crushed it with some pliers, and it never came back. It's crushed shell is still attached to my one frag. I was worried I'd get an outbreak but it never happened. It didn't really seem to bother the coral it was attached to, though...just looked ugly with it's little spit line thing waving around in the current.
