How to install the NODIZ pro ignition ECU

  • Buy the NODIZ: motorsport-electronics.co.uk/...
    NODIZ manual: docs.google.com/document/d/14...
    Buy the 4age crankshaft position sensor bracket: www.driving4answers.com/produ...
    In this video I show you in detail how to install the NODIZ pro standalone ignition ecu. To run the NODIZ pro needs a minimum of a crankshaft position sensor, a coil pack and a trigger wheel. To have a true 3d ignition setup you will also need to provide the NODIZ with a load reference, which I have decided to do with a throttle position sensor fitted to my CBR600 bike carbs. So in the video you will see how to install the NODIZ itself, install the crankshaft position sensor, trigger wheel, coil pack, and throttle position sensor, and connect everything to each other. You will also see how to adjust the position of the trigger wheel, adjust base offset angle and calibrate the tps
    The NODIZ Pro™ is a state of the art microprocessor controlled digital stand-alone, fully mappable ignition controller for four, six or eight cylinder spark ignition engines. It can be used either to replace older distributor based ignition systems for more modern coil packs, or even to allow the running of carburettors on more modern engines which do not feature a distributor drive. It features in-built coil drivers, so no need for EDIS or any external modules.

    Hey man, great vid as always!
    Couple of questions:
    1) Would you recommend a NODIZ setup to "just" get rid of your dizzy? I want to modernize my 4age a little bit but I do want to keep my TB and fuel system stock to keep that simple. Will that work?
    2) Stock TPS has 4 pins. NODIZ setup has 3. Will that work?
    3) Curious if you could answer it: will the NODIZ make the throttle smoother? Reason why I am asking, is because I've had a difficult time adjusting the TPS with the TB. Could a NODIZ calibration solve this issue? (Hope that somewhere made sense? Haha)

    • @d4a
      @d4a  5 років тому +1

      I guess you could use the stock ecu to control the injectors but it might not work right. If you're going with fuel injection the nodiz doesn't really make much sense and an aftermarket ecu like the megasquirt or haltech or aem or anything else will run both ignition and injection for you from a single box. It will be less wires and less hassle.

      I run a blacktop AE111 4age 20v with a coil on plug conversion in my AE71 panelvan. I went with an Australian made microtech ecu, as I live in Aus, and you can pick them up cheap, 2nd hand LT10s was $550AUS. It uses the trigger wheel in the distributor for the crank angle reference so I can control ignition sequentially (or can do batched if you use coil pack). This is a full sequential fuel and ignition (on 4cyl) ecu, so overkill for bike carb set-up.

      I didn't have it sparking at tdc. If you watch the video you will see and hear me explain that I only rotated the engine to tdc in order to figure out where 90 degrees btdc is so I can install the trigger wheel at that position because the missing tooth of the wheel must hit the sensor at 90 btdc for Nodiz to work. When the engine sparks is then determined by adjusting it inside the Nodiz software by adjusting the offset and/or changing it in the map directly.

    • @Videoswithsoarin
      @Videoswithsoarin 2 роки тому

      are you refering to when he sets the offset for the trigger wheel? it should be set to 0 so the nodiz knows exactly where TDC is

    I installed nodiz on my vintage alfa romeo. It works good only for 2D spark and tach output. I am using a VW Wiring loom supplied by ME. I am having a problem with TPS signal (or rather reading in the NODIZ EZ-tune). It is erratic and at idle junps from 0% to 8-9%......
    I have tried with 4 different TPS sensors (BMW and Ford),
    I tested the TPS signal with osciloscope and it is stable,
    I tested with annother Nodiz unit (I have 2), It is the same,
    Grounds are good,
    Power supply is stable.
    The erratic TPS reading makes a TPS 3d ignition useless....
    Has anyone else had a similar problem?
    Where should I look next?
    I contacted ME customer support, we cannot come to any conclusion... They claim I should not have problem with running with unstable signal, but the car is undrivable.

      I didn't say that. I said that if you don't have a vacuum advance distributor you already have ignition advance and you don't need this unless you want programmable ignition maps for tuning and performance purposes.
