This video is for anyone that's just getting into, or is thinking about getting into Marvel vs Capcom 2. I go over basic and advanced mechanics/tech in the game.

Corrections:
1. at 2:37 I say that alpha counters are done with QCF + A1 or A2 but the actual stick motion needed is back, back/down, down + A1 or A2
2. at 7:25 I say that hard knock downs can't be OTG'd, however they can be, so long as the hard knock down isn't a long enough distance to where the camera adjustment doesn't force your character to come out from the side of the screen.

Coming from 3rd strike and super turbo, a game like this is genuinely sensory overload. Watching this makes me want to actually sit down and learn mvc2, so thank you a lot

Finally a beginner guide that sums up all this things! Can't wait to actual commit some time into MvC2 with some knowledge! A lot of old resources got lost and now approaching this legendary title make feel clueless about a lot of stuff... Awesome gift for all of us, man!
As humble suggestion: it would be terrific if you could give us some general insight for the most used characters in short vids (like their general gameplan and their basic BnB).
Same goes for some explanation about the most (in)famous teams: e.g. I do know the MSS, MSP, CSS composition used in the tournaments, but I never understood the theory behind them and how they should be played!

Hey Jacopo! Glad I could provide a resource to help you out with this timeless classic. The game is a LOT to take in, so my goal was to make it easy for beginner's and appealing to people that may want to give the game a go. So it always makes me happy to hear that it's serving its purpose. :)
And those are also great suggestions! I'll try to brainstorm some ways to incorporate shorts in a meaningful and concise way for character game plans and BnBs.
I also like your idea about diving into established teams and their play styles. Strengths and weaknesses, etc. I'll put that on the list as well!
Played it for the first time last Thursday at an arcade, and it was super fun, but also super eye opening that I have no clue how the game works. I unfortunately don’t have a console to play it on, and I couldn’t find an emulator that works for it, so for the time being, this video’s gonna be the only way for me to improve before I try the arcade again.
Welcome to the game! It's super fun and definitely worth learning. The emulators that the community use are Fightcade (good for easy online play but doesn't have training mode) and NullDC BEAR (also does online play but it's recommended that you play someone in your same coast, and it has training mode)

1:37 THANK YOU! OMFG. You know how annoying it is not knowing how to do the hyper combos at the arcade? It's so frustrating. Can't wait to try the air combos and the 3rd hidden combo like Spiderman's wall attack.

Not sure if you heard the news, but MvC2 is being re-released on modern platforms in the new Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection Arcade Classics. You could save a few hundred bucks waiting for the collection over a 1up cab 😌

Finally a beginners guide🎉 I play Tekken 7 25 hours a week and have had interest for 2D games and especially mvc2 and 3rd Strike but i haven't had enough motivation to play mvc2 without a beginners guide.

Found an arcade machine in my area had no clue how to play it beyond streetfighter moves so this is just what I need. Thank you. 🙌 but after watching for the video, I realize this is way too complicated for me at my advanced age but I appreciate that this continent exists.

the input for alpha counter is just quarter circle from back to down (not even half circle from back to forward, because quarter circle forward doesnt work), and flying screen's 'hard' knockdowns can actually be OTGd from, just in very specific cases where your character's moves can actually hit the opponent, like when youre in the corner (or OTGing off of jin's blodia punch super midscreen with crouch LK or dynamite, or shuma setups that trigger flying screen lower than usual and let him land and follow up due to jHPs extended knockdown) but great video regardless! its really tricky getting a consistent source of this games intricacies to give to people just starting out because theres just so much
Hey Waffles. Yeah, I've had a couple people point that out about the alpha counter input. I got my information directly from the MvC2 wiki, so I went with that. And I didn't know any better because I always do QCF and it still comes out lol.
And you're also right about OTGing hard knockdowns. I forgot to mention that you can't OTG hard knockdowns that specifically have flying screen!

Sick video. A advanced "throw" mechanic tutorial would be sick. eg. Amingo airthrow in corner or the classic Charlie air back breaker into OTG. Even Shuma into airgrab. I am very inconstant with this. But so many video, people throw successful all the time in crazy situations were I can't even comprehend how it's possible. Can't find a advanced throwing guide anywhere.

My friends and I have played the Xbox 360 version for years. I never owned the game or got good at it when it was in the arcade, so they’ve always been better than me.

I wish MVC2 had a real medium attack, I like mvc1 because it has a mid attack not attached to L. But because of that, that makes all 4 games unique.
What up Miguelit0! I'm the opposite. MvC2 was my first MvC game, and when I played MvC3 and realized medium attack had it's own button, I wasn't a huge fan lol. But I'm sure that if you played enough, you'd get used to it and wouldn't mind it! :)

Yo, what up! Do you mean if only you had a copy of the game? If so, 2 popular emulators you can use to play online are Fightcade (best for online play) and NullDC BEAR (best for training mode). You can also play on modded PS3s but that's that's a whole ordeal you probably don't wanna deal with lol. Oh, and I appreciate the kind words! I recently started getting into this game again. This and marvel vs street fighter at the arcade were the best.
This video has kinda helped me cure my struggle. Because the arcade I play at has the Japanese version. So I didn’t know how to switch characters. Had a hard time

late response, my bad! mvc2 is pretty much the only fighting game i play, i don't know how to play anything else lol
There IS strategy in the snap like you said, but to me it's just cool. My only strategic use of the snap is to get to the healing characters like Jill, Amiga and Rogue.
Best 3-man combo is Cable, Cyclops, and Sentinel. BUT, my favorite back-to-back combo is Akuma's flame uppercut, then Jin's mecha guns, then Cap Commando's projectile. The viduals alone are a payoff!
Never played these, but man the hype for the new release is really contagious hahahah, I'll be there day one, ready to get my ass kicked as a noob
My suggestion would be to learn top tiers (Magneto, Storm, Sentinel, Iron Man, Cable) if you're actually trying to win a lot. But if you're just trying to have fun and be mostly casual, then have at it with the rest of the cast. But whichever you choose, definitely hit up that training mode!

I normally wouldn’t bother but, I think for this game I may have to break down and buy one as I think just a normal pro controller will be too awkward to play this game on
Get the fight stick, you won't regret it! It's a bit of a learning curve but I think it's the best way to play. Practice daily and you'll get used to it no time.

Yeah I definitely got carried away on the Tiger Knee motion part. It was just supposed to explain the tiger knee and then it turned into that lol. Would've been better to keep that portion short and make a separate "How to play Cable 101" video for sure
Great video! I appreciate the work you put into this. Any chance of a video talking about the magic series? Would love to learn some combos.
Thanks for the kind words! The magic series is essentially (on ground and in air) LP LK LP LK and then either HP or HK for the final hit. This is true for a large portion of the cast. Some characters don't have this exact combo, so you have to experiment with them a bit.
One thing I will say is that the magic series is hardly ever used by experienced players because it's not optimal damage and there are other combos that set up for continued pressure, etc. So practicing magic series is good for practice, but you'll eventually start learning new, better stuff. :)

Dang you're right. I guess it slipped my mind lol. Luckily, I think someone could get very far in this game without actually knowing the magic series because tbh I hardly use it. There's other, more optimal combos to do. Appreciate the call out tho and thanks for watching!

Hey Perceptivision! Honestly, I'm not from the arcade era myself, and I barely started using a fight stick a year and one month ago, so I'm not sure that I'd be the best person to give advice on best practices for fightstick usage. However, what I will say is that - ultimately, it's best to do whatever feels most natural and comfortable to you. And if you ever feel like your execution is impacted because of something you might be doing wrong in terms of hand placement/pressing buttons with certain fingers, it doesn't hurt to ask specific questions to other more experienced players regarding how they press buttons and do stick motions.

What are the inputs for SHCs? Do you start your super, tag in your next character and do the input for thier super? I’m having a lot of trouble with this mechanic!
Hey Dopey! I believe you mean DHC. If so, the steps are: start the super with your point character, and during the super, input half circle forward and both kick or punch buttons OR half circle backward and both kick or punch buttons.
As an example: with storm, do QCB and both kick buttons to Hail Storm. During her super, press HCF and both kick buttons to DHC into Sentinel's Hyper Sentinel Force. If I instead you do HCF and both punch buttons, you would DHC into Sentinel doing the Plasma Storm (bubble super). Let me know if that helps!

There is a ton of info and tech even is rhis vid that makes it quite overwhelming. Would be cool with the new collection coming out to split this vid and go over things even more slowly. With more examples on multiple characters for the basics. What kind od things to pay attention to. And like good ways to practice to get the hang of it. Keep up the good work.

@@FilthGnasty thanks for the reply. I'm probably just old :) The info is all there. For me I'd have to pause and practise to get it all landed. Which is in essence also fine. I can also get that by going even more slow or in depth on the basics that a lot of viewers might find that too slow and dragging the vid.

I can't get the wavedash or tk motion contantly anytips I keep getting lauch on wavedash
For the wave dash, maybe practice doing it slow first. Make sure you're pressing down at the right time and make sure you're pressing both punch buttons at the same time.
For the TK motion, make sure you're ending the motion with up forward. Also try doing it on both sides. I'm better at doing it on the left side than on the right side. It'll take some time to get used to the motion.

I saw they are releasing one for this game with wifi. Does that mean you will be able to play with people all around the world? On what servers?
@@tommyr8787 Yeah...Arcade 1up has released multiple fighting cabs with online play. Im not sure about the servers though.

Sheesh I have been playing MvC1 for too long. I am all messed up now going back to MvC2 SMDH. It is going to be tough to not look for 3 punch and 3 kick buttons.

The high punch/kick is basically ur 2nd button bro. And the 1st button goes into the 2nd button on the 2nd hit. It goes light punch to medium punch in the same button & then the 2nd button is ur high punch/kick bcuz the 3rd button is the assist button. It can get confusing but after a lil time playing it, u will get it 👍💯 MvC2 is the GOAT fighting game of all time real talk 💯💯💯

I have a question that may sound dumb, apologies since mvc3 was my first mvc game
How do i tag to another character, i hear its LP-LK or smth. In MVC3 tagging to another character is just holding down the assist button so how do you do it in this game
im asking because im playing it on the Redream emulator on android and frankly its pretty hard to play in, if yoy have any tips it would be really appreciated
Hey Napoleon! Yes, you're right. To tag in assist 1, you press LP & LK simultaneously. To tag in assist 2, you press HP & HK simultaneously.
In terms of tips for playing on an Android emulator, the only thing I can think of is (if possible) play on a controller or fightstick. I imagine that if you're pressing on the screen, it might be rather difficult to do things. Other than that, I don't have any more tips, sorry! I've never played on Android.

Just undusted and turned on my old XBOX 360 after more than 8 years and saw that I seem to have bought MVC2 from XBOX Live Arcade sometime +10 years ago before it was delisted in 12/2013. I just totally forgot that I still had it installed.
Very nice! I have it on Xbox 360 as well but now a days I mostly like to play on PC via Fightcade or NullDC. Much more convenient for me
