In the beta, you can now finally long press on a movie poster in your library to open up the movie details page to see the actors, quality, audio, etc.
Amazing! I will try this in the dev beta.
@@Techthusiasm Are Trailers availble on that "movie details" page?
I just need lossless audio. Even if it’s just for paid and featured movies.
Sadly, I really don't feel that it's going to happen
I'd pay, 100%!
Only reason I don't get an AppleTV. The Shield TV is starting to show it's age, but is the only device capable of playing lossless audio.
They would need to make an AppleTV “pro” that would allow you to download the movie onto the device while you watch it. Instead of straight stream. They could def do it if they wanted to
Are you saying the picture quality is enough to be comparable to 4k discs?
I wonder if the new aspect ratio feature will allow you to watch in scope and the subtitles will appear properly on screen. I have a scope screen with a JVC projector and a motorized anamorphic lens setup so I do watch scope content filled in on my scope screen but lots of times the subtitles are cutoff. If there is some current workaround I would love to know or if Apple’s new feature solves this issue.
Subtitles in the content image all the time would be awesome and needed for 21:9 mode, yes!
More great tips!
More to come!
So the 21:9 aspect is interesting I'm really curious about a few things. I would assume they're just cropping but who knows. What I'm most curious about is if it will work with all aspect ratios such as 2.0 and 2.2 and how it will handle subtitles. Since AppleTV doesn't allow for moving of subtitles into the frame I wonder how they're going to approach that as well as if this is going to only be usable with certain apps or if it's global. Much like yourself I really only wanted the menu in scope but at least they are taking steps in the right direction just adding this in.
Now we just need kscape to make a HDR menu.
I agree. I sent the HDR menu feedback to the K after talking about it in that prior video.
I couldn’t find dialogue enhancement in the beta update
I'll update on this.
Hopefully the dialogue enhancement works. I have a Sonos ARC system, and the dialogue enhancement on the Sonos software doesn’t really work the best, and I’m always turning up the volume more than I should just so I could hear what is being said
I have a Sonos ARC as well, and running the beta. The Enhance feature in the beta works surprisingly well
I started updating my ATVs to tvOS 18 last night, so I'll check this out.
I was quite disappointed that Apple (again) did not add lossless and high bit rate streaming, at least an option to buy in this feature. It would be a real game changer and a reason to support Apple TV+ and movie rental/purchase. I have never heard Apple even comment on this feature.
I agree.
how about new Apple TV? will it be this year? It was supposed to be released on WWDC, but it wasnt.
Next opportunity for a new box will be around October, IMO.
WWDC has only had hardware announcements a few times. Last year Apple Vision Pro was announced, but that’s the last time I can recall hardware at WWDC.
April - Mac / iPad
June - WWDC (Software)
September - iPhone / Apple Watch
October - Apple TV / HomePod
November - Mac
That has pretty much been the schedule they have followed in some way shape or form over that last few years.
Shame you can’t get kaleidoscope in Australia
Maybe need to find a friend who lives in the US to arrange movies from Kscape especially when you can’t get discs anymore. Every streamed is crap in Australia due to low speed nbn
What is the reason Apple hasn’t gone with lossless audio so far, can’t be that hard to implement
We don't know. Maybe cost? Maybe they don't feel it's needed? But they did it for music, so why not movies too!
I was hoping for Dts x support for Disney streaming.
Maybe in September! I really believe that they will do this - just to remain competitive
Yeah, no DTS:X was an interesting omission.
I don't know, man. I bought 3 apple tv 4k after watching your videos about them. For me, they are on par with the Roku and Nvidia. It's definitely not worse than those devices. But it hasn't outshined them either. I get a few hiccups here and there with the apple tv like I do with the others. I'd say the remote is 2nd best when it comes to CEC and device control. CEC is hit and miss but I'm sure that mostly a CEC thing. However, I have less CEC issues with the remote for the Shield. Device control can me hit or miss also. Some times it just stops. I haven't had any device control issues with the shield. The Roku devices just work for me, but the remote experience has been absolute garbage. I bought their specialty remote and after only a month it would not charge past 9 percent.
So, I like the apple TV 4k but I'm not in love with it. I was expecting to be super impressed. I guess it was the same with the iPhone. My first iPhone is the iPhone 13, It nice, it works. Would never pay 1000 dollars for a higher model thought.
Another thing about the Apple tv remote. I like the thin size, but whoa baby, that thing is dangerous. I almost put an eye out on a couple of my family members. That thing slips out of your hand so easy.
Most people do not have expensive video processors!
PS Your wish has come true with the Info available in your library on each film when you press and hold the film
Oh! I will try this tonight. I updated one ATV to tvOS 18 developer last night, but I didn't check that out.
The 21:9 is def a cool feature. My guess is it just sets the output resolution to that ratio so everything including menus and subtitles are displayed in the filed of view. Now if it just did lossless audio, I would throw my Shield in the trash. Moreover, I would be willing to pay up to probably $500 if they came out with a Apple TV "PRO". If it did Dolby TRUE HD Atmos audio for movies AND Apple Music Spatial Audio, that would be a game changer. Also Hi-res Lossless audio too.
They need to adjust geometry and layout of the icons and elements of the menus at the same time, though. Not just a squish/stretch I hope.
@@Techthusiasm true. I would hope the OS could do that without too much trouble. Just like setting a different resolution on a Windows computer.
Disappointed again. I was expecting an improvement in the library for the movies because it's a mess. In my country the movie titles often mix English with my language, sometimes the box art doesn't fit, the window doesn't pop up if I want to continue or play from the beginning. I would appreciate a change regarding Match Dynamic Range or Match Frame Rate, because some third parties don't give a shit about it, so for example the Disney+ app has been unusable on my Apple TV for almost a year now.
Interesting, but this goes beyond the average home video user, those with a decent screen and AV receiver that use AppleTV. I either never heard of some of products, features, etc., or it just goes over my head.
Install the beta & find out
I have. More content to come.
Thanks!👴🏽
You bet!
They will need to update hardware to get FULL lossless, Right now they stream lossless up to 48KHz. appletv os won't fix that. why would they have the ability and not turn it on.
Why would you think new hardware is needed? The Apple TV already supports HDMI specs. I would think bitstreaming is just a matter of licensing and software. Lossless audio for movies is still in 48 as well. Unless you're referring to the higher fidelity audio for Apple Music?
