You'll need to check out Roswell New Mexico if you haven't already done so. That's the quirkiest town I've ever been to. Virtually everything is alien themed, even the McDonald's is shaped like a UFO.

The “cactus” trees you call them are actually Joshua Trees (yucca brevofolia) and part of the yucca family. Just fyi.
