Started my own stairs today, I have been sanding ALL day and it’s exhausting. It is a dark wood stain and we want to go white so we have tried to get rid oh the shine and most of the dark. Hopefully we can paint soon
I used a brush on the railing for consistency because there were parts I could not roll. But I think I did use a roller on the square banisters at the bottom.
Hello! Could you help me, please? My hand trail is already painted but is old and very dirty. I'd have to use a stripper first, tham sand, primer and paint... right? Did you use a enamel semi gloss? Thanks!!!

You’re a great teacher. Iron balusters would look great also. I have the same ugly railing!
Thank you very much! Good luck to you if you're doing the same thing!
Nice work !
Thank you! Cheers!

Good luck! I've only done this once, but in my experience the sanding didn't have to be "perfect". I would recommend a primer though.
Killer stash
I had to get rid of it but it was a journey.
Your video was just what I needed! Thank you! I love the paint color of your walls. What is it?
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. The wall color is "Toasty Gray" (Behr N320-2).
Your staircase looks the same size as mine. . What do you think your total man hours on this complete job was ?
Hmm. I believe I spent two evenings on it - let's say 8 hours or less? It wasn't too bad.
What about rolling the handrail with a smooth foam roller?
I used a brush on the railing for consistency because there were parts I could not roll. But I think I did use a roller on the square banisters at the bottom.
Do you add varnish over the railing after? Or is the finish fine with just the primer and glossy paint?
The glossy paint is holding up really well. I didn't use varnish, and it looks really good a year later.
Looks great! is the primer enamel based as well?
Thanks! I believe so.
What grit did you use for sanding?
Forgive me, I don't remember exactly. Probably 220 grit.
Great job. Looks great! May I ask what color you used to paint your walls?
Thanks! "Toasty Gray, N320-2"

Yes, to everything above - except I'm not sure if you'd have to use a stripper. It really depends on what you're working with! Thanks for watching.
So I assume you used oil-based enamel? You did a nice job.
Thanks! I used Behr Premium Plus, which I use on all my trim.
Is this both paint and primer?
After about a year and a half, how is it holding up?
Still going strong! Looks nice with no touchups. And...I have kids. Thanks for watching!
Is the enamel paint gloss or semi-gloss?
I am 90% sure I used gloss.
Which primer and paint did u use?
I used Behr Premium Plus, which I use on all my trim.
Also, I think I used Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer.
Do I have to sand? There HAS to be a way to do it without sanding.
I didn't sand that all that aggressively. I did hit the entire thing, it went quickly and I didn't feel the need to get it perfect. Worked out.
Was it difficult to brush the rails and posts without seeing brush strokes?
What grit ?
Why r u staring at me sir
What?
