They're good, well thought out kits that work well but my days of hauling that sort of thing around with me are behind me. A 1.5 litre titanium billy pot with a bail handle does most of the same things and are lighter in the pack. Sometimes you just have to be honest with yourself and lightening your pack as you get older is one of those things.
I like it. I have the Swedish 3 crowns one in alluminium, which is not the easiest to clean, but I understand the rarer Swedish SS model is. So original or not yours is an excellent buy. Good on yer! They’re a lot of fun!🇬🇧
Suggest not putting stove on top of plastic. The heat inside the enclosure, will melt it. Try it first with wood. Think you will find it will "toast" the wood too.
I don't have a dragon fly to check with but looking at photos it may be to big to fit in the wind screen, the feed hose fitting may not fit thru the air holes, and it doesn't look like you can access the valve. I haven't tried it yet but a remote butane burner may work. I have one and I'll have to give it a try.
Looks cool, but like any stainless steel (and just like the Swdish call them a 'Stink Pot'), they're a pain in the ass to clean if you heat up anything in it other than water. Put some baked beans in there, well, good luck with the elbow grease getting that tomato sauce out from the stainless steel on the inside of an oval-shaped cooking vessel... If GSI were to make one of these things out of their amazing Teflon-coated hard annodized aluminium, they would put Pathfinder out of business, because then there would be an M40 kit in which the food remains just slide right off it after cooking...
Hard to clean is why the Swedes called it the stink pot 🙂. I watched videos on seasoning stainless steal, I haven't tried it on my kitchen pans but may give it a try on the mess pot.
These are made in the same factory that makes the Lixada, Tomshoo, etc companies, it just got laser engraved with their logo. Yours looks like it slipped thru with some fitment issues. I'd rather spend the same money on a Swedish kit. Right now, for $67, you can get a full tall kit with Trangia burner and alcohol bottle. Or for like $54 you can get the same with the shorter pot
$67 and $54, where are you seeing those? The ones I see are over $100. I have seen so called Swedish M40s listed that use the M40 wind shield/pot stand but the pot is a German style mess tin.
@@planetsideagent I'm sorry, you're correct. I don't normally search mess kits, so I didn't pay too close of attention. I believe the one I saw had the Swedish stand and burner, but kidney shaped pans. Didn't realize the oval kits were so high valued.
Oh yeah, nothing wrong with that. I'm a collector so that's a whole different problem. 🙂 I did a video on my cook pot I used for many years: ua-cam.com/video/gSIVim9A6e4/v-deo.html
I hadn't had it very long when I make this video, hopefully my follow up videos are more helpful. The normal price is$55.99 but I got mine on sale. www.selfrelianceoutfitters.com/products/pfm40-cook-set?variant=39548550742277
One reason I shy away from mentioning the price, I just went out to the Pathfinder store and the price went up to $61.99 so depending on when you see the video the price can be way off, like watching an old Swedish M40 video where the guy pick one up for $10 and then going out to eBay to find they are now going for $200.
Dave said he is getting European affilates for cheaper shipping but I don't know if they are available yet. www.selfrelianceoutfitters.com/products/pfm40-cook-set this is a UK store, so may have cheaper shipping. www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/pathfinder-stainless-steel-pfm40-swedish-cook-set-64348-p.asp www.amazon.com/Pathfinder-Swiss-Mess-KIT/dp/B09V3F57T1 www.survivalgear.us/products/pathfinder-m40-cook-set
How do you find alcohol in the bush when you run out again? 🫤Great tool I guess until you run out of alcohol then you just carrying it around with you as unusable extra gear. 🤷♂️
You can use it as a twig / charcoal burner also you can hang the pot over a campfire. I think the Swedes had fuel versatility in mind when they designed it. 🙂
I got one for Christmas too, now have two originals and the repro.

Been looking at one of those. Looking forward to more videos on it.
Thanks for posting. Might have to add this one to my collection .

I haven't tried cleaning one yet, I'm thinking a scrubby pad would be flexible enough to get into the corners.
A dandy fine kit indeed! 'Santa' brought me one of those Gen2 FireBox sets, the big guy knows all the lads well.

My favorite cook kit. Wish they'd make it in titanium.
A titanium model would be great although expensive.
I think you can get a German/Swedish style kit on the Chinese sites in titanium but no pot stand. Seem to remember it was pretty expensive.
Thanks for sharing!
Do you think a MSR Dragon Fly stove would work for the heat source or is that too much heat?
Thanks

Ah Sir you are knowledgeable in the ways of the hook can be most confusing for mere mortals
😄
Cool thanks mate
It is nice. I like it better than the aluminum one. But I did cut the hook off. It doesn't work as a handle like you tried doing.
It does work, just can be a bit fiddly.
It’s a lot smaller than I thought it would be, could be my thick glasses that made me think it was larger.
🙂
Does it say where it's made, USA or China?
China, not stamped on the kit but labeled on the box.
oh if it were that simple. Some times if you want to dance you have to dance with the devil or sit on the bench with the other homely girls.
Very cool❤
How about the actual price of the kit your reviewing ?

I think I will keep my M31 , cleaner , simpler .

Damn you need to study up a little there. You can also use the "Pot Lid" in the fire stand as well. You never said a thing about that, or the price!
