  • Shepherdstown West Virginia is the starting point for this journey down the river and up the creek to the bloody Antietam battlefield. History, adventure, nature, and exploration. That's what this video is all about. I start out in Shepherdstown West Virginia and travel by boat down the Potomac river and up the Antietam creek to see the bloody Burnside's bridge and nearby Snavely's ford on the Antietam battlefield in Sharpsburg Maryland.

As a midwesterner who has only read about the civil war and briefly visited a few sites back in highschool, I loved the history facts you gave is while actually being at the spot. I love watching you find relics don't get me wrong but when you share your knowledge with us it is truly enjoyable!

It's amazing how you are traveling through a (relatively) highly populated area, yet the trees and bushes make it look like wilderness.

I flew from Denver to Baltimore last week. The guy beside me was from Idaho and had never been east of Denver before. As we landed and he saw all the trees and the bay, he was blown away. He had no idea the east was so full of green trees.

I had a feeling you were in MD from all your other videos. The landscape always looks very familiar to me. I've fished many of the waters you hunt in. My parents own a small horse farm in Boonsboro on the Antietam Creek by Devils Back Bone. I've fished all up and down the Antietam, Monacacy and Potomac.

I am SO going to import one of these boats to England when funds will allow. There are SO many shallow rivers and abandoned canals in the UK that normal boats simply cant get to. One of these boats would open up all those areas......cant wait to start some new adventures!!

I volunteered at Antietam years ago at Burnside Bridge. Swallows nest under there too and they would only tolerate so many tourists before they started divebombing them. I saw a wild mink at the bridge once too.

And I love learning more about history like world war 1 and 2. But I won't be able to learn about that till next year.

You are a wonderful tour guide. Not only the way that you point out places and things of interest but your delivery also holds ones attention. I think that's why Id asked you once if you'd ever been a teacher. My heart was in my mouth a few times seeing those large rocks and the end of a large pipe sticking out of the swift water while you were going up that Im positive would have done considerable damage if not skillfully avoided.Does your wife ever yell at you for taking chances when she sees you videos?

They have national kayak and canoe races at Silver Mines and Johnson Shut-Ins and of course tourists have literally ruined the Current River. Floating all those rivers by yourself with no crowd is an experience to remember forever. I like what you accomplish going out by yourself making your videos. Making the videos is great, but I know you would be out there by yourself, video or no video! Yes, we want cave videos!

A group of us went tubing on that stretch. We put in by the battlefield and got out at the bridge. Along the way some angry locals took pot shots at us from the hilltop with shotguns. We had to use our tubes for cover as the buckshot hit the water and bounced off of us. As you pointed out, the water level was much lower at that time during the summer. The struggle was real. lol

It is missing the hilt and is bent but the steel is in perfect condition.41inches total length.I dig everything up in a limestone bed so it protects the metal.
