I’ve come to the conclusion that the answer to this conundrum for me is to buy at least 3 of each type of rc car & keep one stock as baseline for tests, mod the 2nd for lightweight, some brass, softer/droop setup, softer foams & the 3rd to add weight like functional winch, heavy front bumper, more brass, stiffer foams to support weight. It’s expensive but when it comes to addictions like drugs, alcohol, gambling, at least with rc’s u have stuff u can sell in the end!
Plus I’m not a big “scale” guy I’d choose performance over realism but it looks weird when there’s no driver in open vehicles like this gen9 or scx10iii bronco, they look so real it reminds me of a self driving car! DOH!

Joe you are awesome. Totally my favorite UA-cam person. Especially since I had met you at Stone Mountain GA a couple years ago and you let me drive your VS4-10 Pro. i had an SCX10iii. I have four vanquish trucks now. Lol

Remove all added brass in the rear try and overdrive or under drive it somehow and some g8 something tires. I really enjoy this red cat vehicle thank you for sharing.

Looks like the front axle unloads very fast. Heavier oil or a limiter strap will help a lot.

Have you out 90 mm shocks on yet to help that front end from unloading ? Would probably help.

My crawlers all wear brass jewelry to both lower CG as well as sparkle in the early morning sun.

Definitely an improvement! Unfortunately similar results on the first few tests, but hey let’s face it? It’s a trail truck & was way out of its element, & still did very well Joe! 👍👌 Thanks for sharing.

Does Treal make a full metal axle with a brass diff cover weight yet? It might actually benefit from that weight. Also needs slightly shorter shocks. Maybe 90mm length shocks? I wasn't sure what tires you are running, but the OEM tires definitely aren't for rocks IMO, maybe dirt and mud? Either way, it's getting there, but definitely needs to get that CG down and more front weight. I'm sure you'll be doing these mods soon.

I watched some real life crawling truck videos this morning and found out they have technology that still hasnt made it to RC yet. Some rigs when they crest over the top of a steep rock then lower the front suspension to help it get over, changing the weight distribution. I guess using air shocks? They call it suckdown i think lol. I think just lowering the front ride height will help in same way on our crawlers with the downside being approach angle. Steel wheels help add weight down low too not sure what is on your International

I know what you're referring to and some people in the RC community's tried this in years past, it's generally achieved by using servos to actuate the front from the rear, I would think Joe's seen it or done it but in the end the added weight from servos and trying to find places to install them just doesn't really give an advantage over a properly built Lcg rig. The Gen 9 truck in this video is a trail truck, not a crawler in that sense so you wouldn't want all that added weight on a rig like this...💯👍🏼

In 1:1 rock crawling a winch is used to suck down the front suspension.

Ya it’s in rc to just use a mini servo to pull front down

On rigs that can suck down the front suspension, are usually equipped with a small winch attached to the front axle. This prevents coil over shocks from unloading.

Got the silver gen 9...like it alot..but omg why do all their vehicles sound like junk?..is it the trans?..or diffs?..changed to a 1080g2 and a 16t ruddog motor still sounds like an Amazon toy?

I just got mine and how loud it is had me concerned something is wrong with it. Also any recommendations on the shift servo, or and arm upgrade. The stock one went out after a few runs and as I was attempting to set the ch 3 endpoints with new a “high quality micro servo” it burnt out fast.
