I watch a lot of videos on UA-cam. You do an amazing job with doin the at home stuff and being focused on detail. Thank you. I just always wander why people put a thumbs down. It looks great and you are showing the easement of dyi. Again awesome job and love the truck/suv
Stumbled onto this one totally by accident. Complete coincidence, but about the time this video was made I had already figured out I was going to replace missing and destroyed fenderwell liners the exact same way! I hadn't gotten around to sourcing the sheet rubber yet but I was wondering whether or not this would actually work. I guess I can go ahead and add the job to my ongoing list of automotive chores. :) Thanks for posting!
I went to my local pick and pull and pay salvage yard and purchased a large sheet of car trunk liner material off an old car. I did the same thing you did and so far its working well. Paid $5.00 for the whole trunk sheet. Once it wears out, I'll be heading back to the salvage yard to get me another piece. Seems durable enough.
Nice job. Leaving the splash-guard long looks like it might provide better coverage and help keep the engine bay a little cleaner. The only question I would have is about heat and fire resistance difference between the OEM and DIY material. Since you have the originals and leftover from the job, it might be worth doing a test to make sure a surprise fire doesn't popup in your future.
Thanks for the great idea Jimmy! I really need to replace mine. On my 1990 Silverado after almost 700k miles the small front drivers side is gone and the other 3 are pretty ragged.
if you're talking about the small piece that protects the front area of the bumper I think there is only one installed on the passenger side from the factory...
Another outstanding video. the timing of your video was perfect! I just installed new injectors and glowplugs---over two weekends. I also had to reinstall a new wiring harness on passenger side for glow plugs. The old splash guards were toast. Rather than pay $50 for a replacement ebay set--I did my own. So far seem perfect---and just in time for our first big snow fall....lol
I believe the original splash guard material is used for fire proofing so it does not catch on fire. You should try to burn the original one and try to burn the new ones see which one holds the flame.
I love how your truck looks. I’ve been watching since you first got the truck. I will look around to see where I can buy a rubber sheet to replace mine in my 97 Tahoe. Truck looks awesome with those tires too. 👍🏻
HI ! " FYI " I bought the exact replacement splash guards for my 1993 Siera from "LNC" truck parts . com !! AND!! Jimmy, there are 2 other smaller guards that go up in the fender area besides that big one . in case someone can't make their own like you are . That company , Jimmy ,has a catalog that you really should get !! they have one that covers only that years of trucks 88 to 98 ! chevy . the number of parts is impressive , P.S. If anyone does get the catalog to order those guards , be sure you order the right ones for the "Gross weight " on 3/4 ton trks. The big shield s are $16.95 ea. !
looking to make my own, factory replacement cost way to much, plus its missing, which is not good for all the rain we been having ,water getting on the belt and wires, and everything else.
I dig 'em! Looks great! Looks like you could possibly use some sway bar bushings. I recently did mine in my Stepside with some from Energy Suspension. They didn't have a part number specifically for mine, but I was able to measure the bar and find some that way.
Jim, I asked you on the motorkote video if you are still happy with it's performance, but I guess you never answered me. I have heard some rumors that it causes sludge to develope in the engine. So, I am looking for your expert opinion since it's been some time now since you have added it into your engine. Do you still have a favorable opinion of the use of motorkote in the engine? Thanks!! Mike Valone
I can't really comment on that. I haven't been using it all that much. Not because I don't like it or anything like that I still think it's amazing (based off what I've seen online) but more so just because I lazily have not repurchased it in a while. I would watch the videos from Project Farm. when I did buy a few bottles I did put it in everywhere from my power steering to my oil crankcase and also my gas tank. In my limited use I've had no problems whatsoever. Hope that helps!
@Island Mike Correct, only skimmed over it to see the part of interest to me, don't plan on altering ANY suspension characteristic that may create a UNSAFE vehicle or situation for my family or others.
GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!! I’VE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT FOREVER!!!! THANX SO MUCH!!!
Watching you cut out the outlines for the new one was very satisfying
Haha I know.. for me too while I was watching back..
those splash guards look really great. that is an amazing tip
I like how you focus on details. Good job 👍🏻
Yeah I made pretty thick guards about 3 yrs ago I still have them unused
Honestly that looks amazing. Feels good to do things like this that most people don't care about
Makes you feel good to DIY.
Where did you get the sheet rubber and what thickness is it?

That's very clever. I have one that is ripped nearly in half and dangling. I'd never even thought to remake some.
Good on you.

Your holding up to a great standard that's what I like. Now I have a new project for my 1997 GMC Sierra. 😋😊😎😁
Haha. Thanks! I hope these things last especially being near the exhaust manifolds... 😨
I always keep a silver and a black Sharpie in my tool box for marking. Silver one works great on black rubber.
Yeah, I'm missing one on the passing side. After a couple of trips to the shop these RIP. Thanks for a good simple video.
Great job, Jimmy. You inspired me to change out all weatherstripping, too. What an improvement. My barn doors no longer shake!
Jimmy, what about posting the source where you got your material for those who want to do the same, TY
Awesome idea man. Replacing the struts on my 94 Suburban today, so I will be adding that to my to do list also. Mine are pretty well wrecked.
Geez you keep this up, you're going to shame me into actually fixing my 95 burb...
Looks awesome, and thanks for the link to the kit.
I used inner tire tube for making them 👍🏼. Thank you for this great video.
Love your videos Jimmy, I have a 2004 Suburban and you have help me with a lot of great tips.....

I'd be interested in that info myself before making my own as well.
Do you have a link to buy the rubber skirt material?
Awesome! My Suburban's are looking like your old ones, and my K1500 pickup is missing them all together.
I think this is my weekend project now
That turned out sweet!!!
Where did you get the new material?????
Great job. Where did you get that rubber material from
Where did u buy the big Piece of rubber to cut for the liner i want to make my own as well for my f150
Same here where can I buy?
Awesome.. looks better than the original.
You would be the guy to make custom inner fender well splash guard😂 not a knock, I’m just impressed with your detail!
What kind of rubber did you use?
Thanks for the great idea Jimmy! I really need to replace mine. On my 1990 Silverado after almost 700k miles the small front drivers side is gone and the other 3 are pretty ragged.

I got mine from "LNC" Trk. Parts .com
@@1RoadGarage good to know
@@TOMAS-lh4er funny I never thought to look for them there, I usually have one of their catalogs around. Thanks for the tip👍
where can I buy that rubber mat for this?
Really looks professional. If you wanted to, you could customize with letters and/or paint.

Good idea. I was a little bit worried due to the proximity to the exhaust manifold but really does it get that hot??!!
IT is different ! I got mine online and they were made out of the original material !
@@1RoadGarage Don't think so but I believe that is why they used that material. Flame test ! Lol
Better than the original.👌👍
Looking to order a rubber sheet. What is the thickness you purchased?
Nice job, I just did the same thing to my 03
Really nice Jimmy 👍
Always great ideas man love the channel
Very interesting videos you make ,thanks for your videos .
How thick is the new sheet of rubber you used???
Looks great, now hit that frame rail w some Rust-Oleum.
I love how your truck looks. I’ve been watching since you first got the truck. I will look around to see where I can buy a rubber sheet to replace mine in my 97 Tahoe. Truck looks awesome with those tires too. 👍🏻
Thanks man!!
Great video ! Am going to do my rig !
I just ordered some from LMC Truck. $10 each.

@@JonathanDooly LMC Truck.
Thanks for the great idea. rob

Nice job Jim Bob...
Does the new rubber hold its shape or warp with heat and age?
Awesome job Jimmy
Looks amazing. What is the approximate length of the splash guard.
Can we use tube used in tyres ?
What thickness and durometer did you use for this?

What is size of sheet?
How thick was of a rubber did you use & what was the name of the manufacturer you went to
Good job!

Hey Jimmy I have a 99 Yukon that really needs shocks but I cannot decide what kind to get. Do you have any suggestions?
I always go to Bilstein. They are the factory standard for many manufacturers. Bilstein 4600 (yellow and blue)
Will this stuff make good mud flaps?
Exactly what I was thinking!!??
tkx jimmmmmmy saved me some money 💰-don’t get sneeeeeeezed on
What if you don’t have the old ones for a pattern??

I missed that one !! Id like to know also .
So glad you didn't paint them red like in the thumbnail. LoL
1Road. Are you in the Spokane, was area?
Excellent...
You can go to lmc truck and get those for 11 to 20 dollArs a piece and it comes with new clips
I need to do this exact same thing
Good job . . . now you can do mine ( lol )
wonderful
JimmyFix. 👌
Should’ve actually made the colors like in the thumbnail
I was thinking about it. They do sell red rubber I believe.
1ROAD that would’ve been nice but still love the vids man 💪🏾
GREAT idea & work, BUT, won't you or will you have to remake them a little longer when you put one of those ugly lift kits on??
@Island Mike Correct, only skimmed over it to see the part of interest to me, don't plan on altering ANY suspension characteristic that may create a UNSAFE vehicle or situation for my family or others.
Nice !!
my cars slash guards ripped off from a pothole or accident
The I paid 20 bucks for it reminds me of the lawn mower incident. Man forced to eat beard
?
Look up man eats beard on UA-cam
The original material is fire retardant. Your new material is NOT.
Everyone should be aware of this fact.
First, fire retardants are used to put out fires. Second, the old material is called masticated rubber, and it's not in the least bit fire resistant.
you talk too much
