LOL! 😂 I actually lol'ed when hearing this 14:55. Great method of measurement, I will use from now, thank you. Also, nice tut, thanks for the walkthrough.
I was so glad to find this. I’ve been seeking it out for a while. Ultimately I’d like to know how to do that oversized CYMK separation for a graphic affect.
I've used illustrator for 15 years, but haven't picked it up in a little while and needed a refresher. this video was great - your'e a good teacher. It makes me chuckle how simple illustrator really is! But the best tools are that way. Thanks!
Thank you for this! Good clear instruction, just enough self deprecating humor to make it interesting, and most importantly I learned something. I've been using IL over 20 years and you showed me things I didn't know, or didn't bother to look for. Guess I'm just lazy for sure, but good to know you're out there for people like me.
That was an amaaaaazing video! Dude, you dropped soooo many shortcut nuggets. You totally leveled me up. That was freaking RAD! And these are definitely incredible effects!
Such a Badass Video! For anyone working on halftones this was a solid lesson. Not an illustrator user and this was helpful just in the thought process. New design Arsenal tool! Thanks
This just made my day! I had made a vertical gradient with a repeat/stacked custom font using the opacity slider making each consecutive one progressively more transparent than the one below it ... but needed it to be halftone for screen printing. The effect - pixelate - color halftone option wasn't really doing what I needed it to do or it just messed up the lines and not much else... but I think since I made the gradient manually this could be a better option to make a custom halftone and clipping mask. Going to try it out right now! Thanks & Big UPS!
@@leestuart38 I do think it is Mac only, so that could be an issue for the PCers of the world. There is also an AI plugin that does something similar called Phantasm. I tried it once, but preferred Vectoraster.
WARNING STUPID QUESTION: Hey at the 12:24 mark, how did you do that with the box at the bottom of the type? Was it another mask? How did it not block out the text?

You been upping up your game on the tips so much, such an awesome change to start from the simple printing and fighting with the designs and screens to all this dope designs.
Wow thanks, sometimes we forget to go back to basic.. I always use Gradient > Halftone effect > rasterize > trace, it's fast but not neat at all.. Gonna make some for future design.. 👌
Ya anything involving image trace is usually hot garbage, I hate that thing so much haha. This is so much cleaner and is actually a little faster when you get it figured out
Thanks for this video. I've been doing a lot of upgrading with my computer setup. Went from 2012 Mac Pro 3.3Ghz 6 core to 2017 iMac 4.2Ghz i7 Quad 5K 27 inch and upgraded to the latest CC. super clean and easy tutorial my man. would love to see some more aggressive style halftones styles you could do.
Great tutorial. Do you have a similar tutorial showing how to get a 45-degree half-tone, but in a radial pattern?
Came for the tutorial, stayed for the awesome. The "ball hair's width" sold it for me. Subscribed~
