I have a 2010 Audi Q5 2.0 Tdi with 324,000 miles. Drove it from UK to Germany last September. Drives superb, slight bubbling on front arches but no other issues whatsoever. Replaced the Cambelt at 320,000 miles. Oh it never had the 2017 VW “Fix” and is on the original DPF and regenerating faultlessly! I think these cars were built to an amazing quality👍🏻

Wow - I have a 2006/7 Q7 BUG 3.0 TDI with 300k on it - love the car but wondered about the mileage... looks like plenty to go. I had an issue with the steering lock last year which cost AUD6k since the whole steering shaft needed to be replaced as a unit, but otherwise a great car if you keep up the TLC. Many thanks for this intimate detail on the G1 Q7. This is the best vid I've seen so far.
Great video! I love your editing and humor :D Very thorough review of the car and you cover in great details what to look for when owning/buying one. Keep up the good work!
i just buy this car couple days ago, Q7 3.0TFSI 2012 with 128.000 KM on it and it run great but have some issues that i know i will fix. first issue is slightly leaking front air suspension, second is just a little oil leak between engine and transmission (already planing to fix it aswell to refresh some of it component) and the last is plastik clip for third row sunroof shade
VERY INDEPTH VIDEO AND GREAT EXPLANATIONS ON THE VEHICLE OF TOPIC. 500,000 KM IS A HECK OF NUMBER FOR KILOMETRES... PROPS TO THE OWNER FOR CARING FOR IT
Excelent review. I watched it to know more about the updated newer 4L, which i have. Good point on height level sensors lubrication. I gotta take mine out and grease them preventatively. Same with wiper linkage.
Dont forget, that the newer V6 TDI-s (204HP and 245HP) have the new 2 chain timing, instead of the old 4 chain The new 2 chain system is more difficult to change, beacuse you have to remove the valve covers, to remove the valve covers, you have to remove the injectors, not only more work, but also more seals to replace, and it even lasts shorter In case of both systems, if you hear rattleing at starting, but it disappears in a second or two, it does not jump, you are in time to replace, but it will still run until you get an appointment to your mechanic, so “preventibly timing chain replacement” is not needed in cases of any 2.7 or 3.0 V6 TDI from any year of manufacturing
Wow my Q7 runs rings around that one. No bubbling interior or exterior. No chips in paintwork anywhere no rust anywhere. My seats look like new. No stretching like that and yes it's S-line with Verano leather and Bose. Oh and it only has 136700 kms and one owner driver from new. No sunroof. Full towing package so extra large transmission coolers. No body flex or creaks. Inside of my original tail pipes are so clean you can wipe them with your finger and lick it. Yes they are really that clean. I do have slowly sinking front suspension one side. And I do have really clean swirl flap intake manifolds but yes I get the swirl flap limit exceeded fault and light. I paid 101400 euros for it new except I didn't. I sold shares in a bank that cost me 7500 to buy it... and then the bank went bust so I would have lost the money if I had not bought the car. I thought I had an ECU fail so I took it out and set it to ECU testing in the UK, turned out to be a fault in the throttle body. It was failing to detect its position during rotation but not showing any codes. (Magnetti Morelli replacement for the OE VDO which wore out its gears) It's been a joy to drive for 18 years and I don't know what to get next. For now I intend to fix my residual valve leak and maybe try those aftermarket limiters for the swirl flat actuators. Thanks for the video.

if it would be a serious problem like worn crank bearings then you would have metallic chips in the oil filter, so you can first inspect the oil filter for metallic particles injectors in very bad condition can be easily checked thru a good OBD scanner/diagnostic program which can in this case show you clear signs like injector related fault codes or bad injector readings (however a slowly failing/badly performing injector can't be checked like this, and also you can't predict the lifetime/sudden failure of the injector by this procedure)

German cars - bottomless holes . Yes I own Audi and Im sick of it, every year same problems; camshaft sensor, throttle valve, all that seems minor but all those repairs aint worth lower fuel consumption of a diesel and all that money you give for repairs can buy you so much fuel tanks of gasoline. So belive me, diesels are bottomless holes, that's why auto mechanics love them, more money for them and less for yourself.
So u bought a very high km old German. U prob paid too much. U wasted time money nd sweat fixing random prob. Nd u ended up selling at loss. Amazing journey
thats a long rattle, in this case I would replace the chain mechanism and generally speaking its a good idea to replace it at 300 000 km anyway since the plastic guides and the tensioners are gonna be worn to some extent + the chain is gonna be stretched more or less

Best review and tips for the owners of Q7.
These Vag suvs are well built.
Dont forget, that the newer V6 TDI-s (204HP and 245HP) have the new 2 chain timing, instead of the old 4 chain
The new 2 chain system is more difficult to change, beacuse you have to remove the valve covers, to remove the valve covers, you have to remove the injectors, not only more work, but also more seals to replace, and it even lasts shorter
In case of both systems, if you hear rattleing at starting, but it disappears in a second or two, it does not jump, you are in time to replace, but it will still run until you get an appointment to your mechanic, so “preventibly timing chain replacement” is not needed in cases of any 2.7 or 3.0 V6 TDI from any year of manufacturing

Are your revs fluctuating all the time or only when you release the throttle. Mine does this only when going downhill without any throttle
I had fluctuating revs+slight vibrations+slight grinding noise mainly when:
-travelling around 50-60 km/h
-gearbox in 5th gear
-very slightly pressed throttle to maintain speed
-revs under 1600-1700rpm

I didn't have any fluctuation when going downhill without any throttle

try to check / eventually replace the ground wire which goes from engine to body - it can be corroded or broken from the inside
It could be that the head gasket had failed, and the coolant is accumulating in the cylinders and hydrolocking the engine.

Put Dipetane in your fuel and your car will run clean. I have a Q7 for 18 years.
So u bought a very high km old German. U prob paid too much. U wasted time money nd sweat fixing random prob. Nd u ended up selling at loss. Amazing journey
Just out of curiosity, what would you have bought? For less money with less issues and then sell at a win?
Was the timing chain ever replaced ?
no
Mine is at 300.000 , do u think its safe to go another 100k km
it mainly depends what engine you got and if you got a chain rattle at start up or not
Mine rattles some time at the beginning for like 3 sek , i got the same engine 3.0 tdi audi a4 b8 2010
thats a long rattle, in this case I would replace the chain mechanism
and generally speaking its a good idea to replace it at 300 000 km anyway since the plastic guides and the tensioners are gonna be worn to some extent + the chain is gonna be stretched more or less
